Yes, just dont play any VAC games while idling

Which is counterproductive in itself, since you shouldn't run idle master and play steam games at same time...

you are wrong. idle master emulates running the game. and it is just as safe as if you installed and ran the game yourself, only idle master is vastly less resource intensive.

you can play games and run idle master at the same time, it works as anything does, run 2 games and you get card drops less often, so run 1 game and 1 idle master and you get card drops less often.

Thats what i said. Its counterproductive, meaning it slows down card drop rate. Where exactly you claim I'm wrong?

its the exact same login process.

The cookie you provided earlier was the same as entering your login details.

the cookie method of logging in was actually less safer.

As for the page you use to login with, it uses internet explorer.

I don't see how the session cookies are less safe. You can invalidate them by logging out, at which point they become useless, whereas account names or passwords have the chance of being re-used across multiple websites and are generally harder (and often in the case of account names, impossible) to change. You might be able to do some malicious things with the session cookies without triggering Steam Guard though, I'm not sure. Idle Master has never triggered Steam Guard, but that could be because it's not doing anything sensitive, it's coming from a computer already validated by Steam Guard...or because session cookies bypass Steam Guard protection, which would indeed make them less safe (on Steam, anyway, password re-use is still a common issue).

Yeah it is.. I was going out of town for a week and left it working. Idled about 190 odd games and came back to 50 inventory pages of cards. there were a few Foils also in the overall drops

I don't know if is safe or not, but i will never trust my login and pass to anyone.
If the program come with source, review the source and compile your self.

It's completely open-source so yeah, you can do just that if you have any doubt.

I used it for months (still using it), farmed over 200 cards with it, never had a problem. (although it tends to forget the cookie settings every now and then so you need to re-type it).

Just use common sense and you'll be safe. Same with SAM.

I found you just need to open the settings file and save it again. No need to re-enter anything.

Why wouldnt it?

Yes it is. You can even look at the source code if you have any doubt since it's completely open source.

Why would it need login/pw? I'd stop using it at this point. Maybe it's safe right now and the dude who programs it doesn't have bad intentions (right now), but stuff changes (so many pieces of software have been sold in the past without any notice beforehand). Also: People/systems get hacked.

Been using SAM forever to farm my cards. Enhanced Steam lists me the remaining badges/game drops and I just enter the game ID from there (or steamcardexchange) into SAM, hit it up for 30min to a few hours and get them done one by one. Considering that I'm always down to no remaining card drops, I'd say that works pretty well.

It needs it because that's how it gets the session cookies that let it check your badge list. Jshackles said he would add in a way to put them in manually, like you could in the old version though.

What is this SAM and where can I get it? Because with Idle Master I am missing an option like the one you described here.

If it was going to do any harm other people in the community would have made it a point to call it out so people avoid it (hopefully). It's open source so you can check the code if you aren't convinced.

To farm cards I just edit steam_appid.txt and run TF2 from a shortcut outside Steam. No need to download or a third party asking for user/pw.
