This thread will no longer be updated.

This used to be a thread called "Limited time, 100% Free-to-keep PC games right now", where I, together with many helpful members of the community, documented which PC games were free to claim at any given moment. I started it when the COVID-19 pandemic started in the whole world and developers/publishers were doing promotions faster than one could keep track of everything. Since the situation is calmer now, keeping track of things to that level isn't needed.

The thread is now a free games news thread which relies on comments to function - if you find an interesting offer for a free game, feel free to comment and let others know! Here I have also put links to useful places where you can find out about and/or collect free games as they appear.

Thanks so much for this. Can you give me this list in code so I can add it directly?

Sure, but character limit may be a problem.

It's a little contribution, thanks for your work! ^^

I can see what it looks like at least, but these Microsoft games are getting out of hand and I would really need a collection link...

I couldn't find such link. I searched "free" in games, then took out titles with yellow highlighted price tags.

Just give the link in Microsoft's store site (try it on your browser) where you've put the refined search paramaters, such as https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/new-and-rising/games/pc?IsDeal=true&price=0To0.01 and https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/top-free/games/pc?IsDeal=true&price=0To0.01

Nothing should be missing with those links I hope? I'm going to add them in anyway because I really want to get rid of all the Microsoft crap in a good way.

I'm not sure if they're missing anything, I didn't go through the games in your list and compare them to what's in the links.

seriously this game cost 80 bucks?

Comment has been collapsed.

Dozens of "$80" games were discounted to free last week. Shitty developers just trying to make the mobile-level games more enticing by making people think it's a real deal.
Like... this game is 20$ on Steam, with many negative reviews that call it a clicker ( "So this is basically a ripoff of the Hobo Simulator app game on Iphone. It's a clicker, nothing new, nothing fun, just play hobo instead.")

A rule of thumb I use is, they probably added $80 to the price of each before making them free, so if you subtract that mentally, you'll likely have the worth of the game. I saw some for $79.99 "value" so in that case, it's probably $70 or maybe even higher, $77.50 or something added. Is it worth claiming while it's free? Well that's a whole different question entirely.

Adding new stuff after work, going to change some things in the chart which will take some time.

Just to ask... I'm up for adding all the links here and in the charts above to the list, but it's going to take some time and maybe look pretty ridiculous. Does Microsoft have a collection page for all the freebies they're offering (like with itch.io and IndieGala)?

I wish. I'd recommend linking to the comments with a whole bunch to be honest. At least for the ones with absurd prices. One of the reasons I separated them.

not special offer, but...

Free DLC (soundtracks) which can add without base game in library, even if base game sells for the money in store.

Little Inferno Soundtrack - https://steamdb.info/app/1270140/ (Base game not free)
7 Billion Humans Soundtrack - https://steamdb.info/app/1270120/ (Base game not free)
Human Resource Machine Soundtrack - https://steamdb.info/app/1273200/ (Base game not free)
Master of Orion: Soundtrack & Score - https://steamdb.info/app/468020/ (Base game not free) [DLC hide in the store]

The charts have been split, I'm leaving the order as is for now but new games will be added by addition order (and please tell me when games should be removed because that's going to get difficult for me now). The "upcoming" chart is sorted by starting soonest.

Not games, but worth a mention. The music listed in this thread is free and can be claimed to your library even if you don't own the base game. The same isn't true of the artbook though, you have to own the base game to claim that. https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/XCks6/free-music-in-steam-can-add-without-base-game

Google announced that they're giving 2 months of Stadia Pro for free starting today! However, it's only available in 14 countries (Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States).

Hmm so it's not free to keep indefinitely huh? After 2 months you either have to pay or stop using it.

Yes, the "free games" go away, but any games you buy during those two months are yours to keep forever.

I'm not getting the method to get it. It just takes me to the normal main page and just lists a price of 1400 kr SEK which I am not taking the risk of paying. I've never used it. Is it because I'm already logged in to my normal Google account? So how does one "sign up"?

I heard that Google is currently rolling in the offer and will take them up to 48 hours. Not sure how to sign up since it's unavailable to where I am.

Tips: If you wanted to save some space in your thread since SG limits it, you could embed the links in Useful Information into the title, such as linking "A good thread for free itch.io links" instead of providing the link separately. Also, with the Google Stadia Pro offer, you could screenshot the countries and have that linked as "Only available in screenshot" where the word screenshot has the link (or embedded image) and embed the offer link into the title.

Some of the free Microsoft games at the top of the list have about 5 hours left to claim, most of the rest have 1 more day left.

I am doubtful many their real prices are $80... seriously.

might want to remove the Microsoft Store games that are from the following companies, due to the false prices:
Akadem GmbH
Strategy Empire, LLC (https://strategyempire.mobi/)
Real Fighting, LLC (https://realfighting.me/)
Teen Games, LLC (https://teengames.mobi/)
Education Terra, LLC (https://educationterra.com/)
Action Portal, LLC (https://action-portal.com/)
Music Breath, LLC (https://musicbreath.com/)
BrightDream Apps, LLC (https://brightdreamapps.com/)

the webpages of each LLC are near-identical, privacy policies show they are all subsidiaries of Akadem Gmbh (http://akadem.at/)

unless Google's and Apple's app stores don't show discounts, it's likely that the games were always free.
