Just noticed it happened today with Rise of Flight United. We paid for them before they became free so why we have to lose our cv?

It's free now

Yeah just seen it. :/ But why does it drop to $0 cv when you gifted it way before it was free to play though?

It´s just the system , any price change even to zero affects even giveaways in the very past

Someone needs to beat the system then!. :p

I still think it's a bit weird since you paid for it at one point and gave it away long before. Noone ever really got bothered by it before?
(Then again it might not happen alot) But oh well nothing to be done about it.

If it affects everyone equally, does it really matter?

It affects people based on someone else's decision because not every game is bound to become a freebie so people giving away items of the same value will end up having vastly different CV.

It doesn't affect everyone equally because not everyone gives or has given games that became free eventually.
It doesn't affect everyone equally everyone by dropping in their level because of it.

Games given before they go in a bundle or after that is arranged accordingly, so why can't this.

So you should be discredited for the money you spent in the past? Such wonderful logic sarcasm

Really, the condition of "if user gifted game before bundled or price change, they will maintain CV value of game at the time it was gifted" or something should be added.

I didn't say you should be, simply that we are all in the same boat.

It has been addressed numerous times before and the word from the top is that directly linking to Steam's value saves on site resources. Additionally, it has the nice side effect of encouraging people to continue giving, rather than camping on CV earned in years past. Is it perfect? No. Does it affect every user equally? Yes.

Something happened with the game that I don't think the SG system ever intended for, and that was the game splitting into two parts. You got the base game, and then you have the Channel battles, where previously the two were baked into one. This makes it more in line with how the developers sell the game on their website.

You are right, there has been some merging that the SG system never intended for.
At the time i was giving it away (and gotten myself a copy) it was called Rise of Flight: Channel Battles Edition, the same name as you pointed in your link and has now transformed to a DLC.

My version got it's name changed to United, and i have received the Channel Battles Edition as a DLC (even though that store link doesn't say i own it but that's beside the point). So basically what i have given away is now a (valid) DLC.

In this particular case, it would probably make sense for anyone who gave away the game prior to the split to have it retroactively changed to a giveaway for the channel DLC, since that's actually what they gave away.

Yes, but if the old Channel Battle Edition and the current "united" have the same ID, that might not be possible.

Isn't that beside the point? I gotten it through a bundle so i wouldn't have gotten a full price cv anyway (i lost about $4,5 cv though) nor missed it, it's a principle.
It can happen to anyone with any game, and whatever they truely paid for it.

How many people don't still have their cv of $x0 from Shadow Warrior / Tropico 4 they gotten very cheaply back then.

I likely wouldn't even notice it, I don't pay much attention to my CV/level.
As for the rule, it's not even really a rule or setting from SG. The site just pulls pricing info from Steam and bases values on that.

AirBuccaneers, same too. Given away 2 yrs ago, now free, bye points :P well who cares.

It's the consequence of SG apparently not using a layered database-system (or any of the alternative methods resembling that).
Makes the site faster, but your can lose CV over something that goes free even after you gave it away, simply cause it pulls up the new price instead of remembering the historical price.

Personally I don't like it, but probably it also has the consequence that you're more likely to drop levels when yo've been here longer 'forcing' someone to keep gifting. Which would be a good thing, so I'm told. :p

I just went from 5.19 to 4.89 with the click of refresh. I've been auto-removed from all level 5 GAs I was in.

Dat rejection... :p

I thought you stayed in GAs that you've already entered when your level dropped. Is this a recent change, or have I just misunderstood things?

I'm not sure. I only noticed because I entered a level 5 GA, wrote a comment, and after clicking "submit comment" it reloaded the page and my cv dropped a lot and the "Remove Entry" became "Level 5 Required." The game was also removed from my entries page.

No big deal. :)

You already know what to do to avoid this problem. Give away games that will never drop to zero.

Bundled version did not go free, only base game.

So now it gives more CV and isn't in bundle list ;)

Not sure what you mean.

What i given away was the base game that transformed into a dlc called what you pointed in your link.
But it given $0 cv nontheless probably because of the steam id.

That future giveaways will receive full CV as they can do it under correct game/DLC.

Edit: I assume it will be fixed too and game entry removed as it's free now.

This is not intended for this case. That's why these should be reported so they can be adjusted.

When a game goes free it's supposed to have its last known price here, however the database automatically takes it to 0 occasionally so those titles need to be adjusted. It's not just this title, but they need to be reported, in order to be fixed since the adjustment is not automatic.

There is an entry in the change log since we had this issue for a lot of titles that are reported as free by the API while they aren't.

Thanks for the reply, but is this title written down now or something or i/we still have to send in a report too?

I added this one to the queue. Was mostly adding that in case you notice more titles, since we might miss it if it's in a thread.

Ha, that's good to know. I knew that was the case with games removed from the store, but I didn't know that it was the same with games that become free.

Sometimes it happens to those, too, because instead of removing the whole page, they just remove the ability to purchase them before that, so their price automatically updates to 0 before they get removed. Those need fixing, as well, occasionally (for example State of Decay).

It's still paid, but now DLC for free base game:

Needs to be marked bundled.

Thanks for the info (explains why I own that DLC, also).

The expectation on SG is that CV will deteriorate somewhat over time. You might buy a $60 game and give it away, and it's appreciated, but when the regular price drops to $20, so will your CV. This is expected and limits giving away a few things then coasting forever. It sucks that yours dropped to zero, but overall, everyone's CV drops somewhat. And with how many bundles there are now (Humble Bundle, Indie Gala, Groupees, etc.) more and more games eventually drop to the bundled prices and CV fades away.
