I just gave away $55 worth of games, my contributor score went from 4.64 to 4.69. Are you joking SteamGifts? Really?

I think bundled games count for 15% of their steam value.

I've always wondered how SG differentiates between bought copies and bundle copies. If I bought Shadow of Mordor through Steam and Bundlestars separately and made GA's, would SG be able to differentiate?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, it would not. That said, Shadow of Mordor won't be seen as bundled either way due to the current "bundle", as the current bundle is just a glorified sale.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's kinda sad but I see why SG does it that way. Wish there was a way to differentiate them correctly.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

SG would have to act as a middleman, at least for actual steamgifts from invetory.
CD-keys from stores such as greenmangaming/amazon/etc. can only be lumped into bundlelist if it is in there.

I paid $5 or $10 for each copy of Rising Storm to giveaway, and was getting $3 of value the entire time on my profile. Paid $5 for each Batman, got $3 value. Done.

Wait, how is Rising Storm GOTY in the bundlelist?

Was it even the GOTY version in that bundle? anyways it cost $2.50 for whatever version it was then, way back in 2013.

It was in a higher tier, going by the GOTY price of $20, $2.50 = 87.5% off, not even close the the 95% required to be on bundlelist.

Was given away for free on Facebook at some time. Dunno how many copies anymore. Maybe that's the reason.

I didn't know it was free in limited quanitity and for a limited time, this makes more sense now. :D
Free = automatic bundlelist.

(and free with many tens of thousands of copies given = can't make giveaways for)

if the games had been ever bundled or discounted you wont ever get the full price. just dont bother in making full price GA

Discounted doesn't matter, though there is a 'hidden' 95%+ discount rule exception that veteran SGers know about that is absolute even though it's not stated anywhere.

thats $8.25 total for the 3 games, and you need $150 to go from 4 to 5. But I guess you alredy knew that

There has to be some sort of a system in place for bundled games - if people got full CV for games that they could buy 10 for $2 or whatever then the contributor level would be even more broken. If you are making giveaways and CV is important to you then check the bundled games list first to make sure you are getting full value.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I have seen errors in the bundlelist, as there is no publicly stated rules/reasons why some games are in the bundlelist, while others are not.

Seriously, Shobo or someone that knows his exact mad reasonings, post a complete list of rules regarding how a game is added to the bundlelist.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Thus far, the rules seem to be relatively straight forward, from what I can tell. Any game that is in a bundle with a "low" price (effective sale of >90-95%) is added to the bundle list, while expensive bundles (effective sale of less) is not. And games that are sold at a 95% discount are also added to the bundle list.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think the site would be more broken without the bundle list. And I think if people don't read up on the rules and check the bundle list before making giveaways then they shouldn't be especially offended when they get less CV than they expected.

That doesn't mean I think the system is perfect. I've seen some weird stuff in it on occasion, but maybe the system is about as good as can be expected given the resources available.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I also agree there needs to be a bundlelist, but the rules need to be posted somewhere in SG, by someone 'offical'.

Also, the bundlelist needs to be updated in a timely matter!
I had several of my giveways, added to the bundle list, over 30 days after they ended! So for 30+ days I got full cv.

The 'bundlelist' should be relabled to: 'really high discounted game list" :P, since many of the games in it are not infact in a bundle, but then this is semantics. :D :D

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Shobo misses games occasionally and they are usually added only when someone makes a support ticket asking why a game isn't on the list.

Bundle list on sgv1 used to have the reason why the game was added. I wish it hadnt been removed.

Don't forget, this could of been avoided if it mentioned somewhere during the giveaway creation process, that the game will only yield 'bundlelist' cv.

In SGv1, there was an asterisk near the games name. (now there is no asterisk, but I would suggest make it CLEAR, by stating BUNDLED somewhere, not just a asterisk anymore.)

Comment has been collapsed.

Um, checking the rules and faq and checking the bundlelist, minutes, if not SECONDS before you create a giveaway.... IS STILL NOT SAFE.
Especially if a game is added to the bundlelist days, if not many weeks after your giveaway ends, loweirng your cv. Example: Silent Hill Homecoming (this I don't mind so much, as it was pretty cheap game)

Example: Shobo adding 'packs' to the bundlelist, only for the reason all of the games in said pack have been in bundles in the past, totally forgetting the pack is its own id.
(I think shobo did this out of fear people would create giveaways for packs, but then only give out multiple cd-keys, one for each game in said pack, to get full cv.... when in fact, these people are breaking the rules, as they are not actually giving away what they made their giveaway for, they are infact giving away multiple games, but NOT a pack :D)
^^^Example: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/34937/ (I own all the games in the pack, YET I STILL DON'T OWN THIS PACK, technically :P)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You are right, but if you have any question you should ask it in the forums/support. Also I think we need more "bundlers" (like Shobo), to add the heavily discounted games, packs and bundles to the bundle list ASAP so we don't have this kind of problems. The system is not perfect, but it's not broken like OP says :).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Using multiple keys to build a pack is okay, as long as you give everything in the pack.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

but what if someone gives away for example , bioshock triple pack a never bundled pack , and ends up giving a separate bundled key for each, he gets the full triple pack value instead of the bundle worth cv of each.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Bioshock Infinite is not bundled (well technically it is, it was the $20 tier of the 2K bundle, but that didn't get it on the bundle list) but yes, you could buy it, have the two others from the bundle and give them away as the complete pack to get full CV. It's an exploit but I think it's better to allow this that putting the triple pack on the bundle list and discouraging people from buying it to give it away. There will always be exploits anyway, it's not possible to come with a completely perfect system.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Someone could also buy the complete pack on GMG for example and receive 3 individual keys.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

GMG has a reputation of not giving separate keys. Even 'packs' on GMG that aren't even available as a pack on steam (i.e a sort of cutom key) are given as one, e.g the Steel Storm + DLC pack on GMG.

Permalink

I remember buying packs before that came in the form of multiple keys. It might not have been GMG though, but I'm too lazy to look back at past purchases to find out where.

what i can say, the FAQ button is really clear on top of the page, and reading should not be really difficult if u can complain in a discussion here, and anyway i can understand when u reach level 3, but at level 4, ppl should ask themself how the system really works I think, in order ro achieve better

I can see this if the person didn't know about, or didn't check the bundlelist, in case of the OP.

But for cases where a game is added to the bundle list AFTER your giveaways end, seems wrong. (I can understand up to 48 hours afterwards, but not weeks, proof that shobo needs help)

Funny thing, I have two bundled games listed as full price and one full price listed as bundle there. Either way, I stopped caring about CV long time ago, since bundle keys I give are my spares that I have no use for anyway, and real gifts I bought with real money to put here, because they were nice games to give and were bundled ages ago, turned bundled.
For me, the system is discouraging from buying game with GA in mind, because instead of choosing a game I think that's nice, it promotes putting effort in finding something that's not on the bundled list and available for free and almost free - and last time I checked just before SG2 launch, there were plenty of bundle list holes to go through to boost cv while spending almost nothing. But that's just how I feel, I came here with giving out otherwise wasted bundle keys in mind, so I don't really have anything to complain about or prove.

I have a question regarding this.

If I giveaway a game and then this game goes in a bundle, will my CV go down even though I gave away the game before it was bundled?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, as long as your giveaway was started a few days ahead of the game getting bundled, you're safe. The exception here being games being retroactively added to the bundle list.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, it won't in that case. If the game was already bundled but not yet on the list when you were giving it away, it will get a reduction.

Permalink

+1 for Doshmaku. (and for Fnord)

Again, its not 100% safe, as Shobo has yet to post his exact methodology regarding the bundlelist.
Stuff can be added to the bundlelist months after your giveaway ends, with a date before your giveaway started/ended, lowering your cv.

if the giveaway ends before the bundle started (not when it's added to the list) you should get full value.
