Actually if you(not you op ;p) haven't been living under a rock for the past 5 years you will know that half life 3 is most likely still being developed and what better way to introduce the Source 2 engine (which is sure to come) than continuing one of the best franchise of Valve.
So it's more of a question when will it come than that it will come.

There is a question about WILL HL3 ever be released? Of course it will, just after Left 4 Dead 3, Portal 3 and Team Fortress 3.

Dota 3 will not be part of the Purle Box package, as it will be free 2 play from the start. Purple box will tie in story lines of HL3, L4D3, Portal 3 and TF3. The last one will be a surprise for sure.
