It's OK to run a discount on different stores at different times as long as you plan to give a comparable offer to Steam customers within a reasonable amount of time.
Occasionally it may make sense to offer your game in a bundle or subscription, timed at the right point in a game's life cycle. Keep in mind that the perceived price in the bundle/subscription should be a price you are willing to run the game at a standalone price or discount on Steam. For example, 10 games in a bundle that costs $5 USD may have a perceived price of $.50 per game. Similarly, 10 games for $10 through a subscription this month may have a perceived price of $1 each.
Steam keys shouldn't be given away for free if you aren't also offering the same deal (i.e., give the game away for free) to Steam customers. If you want to run a giveaway on Steam, please reach out to us at Steampublish@valvesoftware.com
Steam keys shouldn't be sold in bulk. For example, you should not sell your game on sites that offer customers the option to purchase large numbers of copies of your game for a lower price. You should also not include your game in bundles on sites that allow customers to purchase multiple copies of the bundle for a lower price.
I'm honestly surprised we're still seeing bundles and freebies (of decent games) following the introduction of the above policies. They're extremely heavy-handed and controlling. They wouldn't even necessarily be out of place if Steam didn't control such an oppressive share of the market but, as-is, Valve seems intent on choking out other retailers and sale options.

No wai. :(
Why.. something so extreme..
..and it doesn't seem as though any delivery service handles that location or alcohol in general..
..hey, Ev, I don't suppose you're up for a cross-Atlantic vacation any time soon? :P

Heh. I'm actually watching Ao no Kanata at the moment, so that's a fun overlap of thematics.

This one I had not noticed before. Interesting.

So, HB monthly games at the steam store for $2 each, when? But anyway, I wonder if it will cause less aaa titles to appear in HB monthly. My sub ends December, so I wonder really hard...

Yeah, Valve's perceptions make no sense whatsoever (the entire reason tier structuring works the way it does is that sales favor lower tiers but profits are split evenly [or relative to the individual products], thus allocating most funds-per-sale to the products in the upper tiers) but, then, Valve's intent with the various policies seems less to ensure equitable sales and more to inhibit competition, so that's not surprising.
If Valve ever really enforces their policies, Steam bundles of any decent quality would presumably no longer be able to support the kind of cohesive presence they current have. Twitch Prime is already utilizing a competing, non-Steam monthly bundle structure, so they would presumably gain a sudden massive advantage over Steam as far as marketing appeal toward gamers.
While that improvement of competition would likely be of long-term benefit to gamers, I can't help but hope that Valve doesn't follow through with their policies as-written, given the (at least short-term) detrimental effects that would have for gamers (and especially SGers). Well, it's all rather uncertain at the moment but, it's been months now without any significant impact (in fact, we've had a great month for bundles just now), so for now we can still be optimistic about things.

I think the wording may be crucial here. If the dev/pub didn't run the giveaway but instead they sold a batch of keys to HB and they ran the giveaway, I don't think they will be obligated to give the game for free on steam. Converse interpretation would mean that every game given away on SG should be free on steam in the near future.

I could be wrong, but I remember reading somewhere that one of the rules of having your game on Steam is that you're required to offer the same deals on their platform that you've had for your game on other sites. If it's offered for free elsewhere it will free on Steam at some point

when one after the other all of the games from the free games promotion will be free on Steam.
I looked into this recently and statistically speaking that hasn't been the case thus far and while some games have been the majority have not, regardless of what some recent policy might be. You can see the results here:

Big reminder that most of the time people want these freebies because of +1 and not for playing.

Big reminder that games should be played. That is their purpose. Pretty sure it is a defining characteristic of what it means to be a game. I never understood the impulse to 'collect' digital games with no real intention of ever playing them. That just makes me sad for the developer, for the game itself, and for true gamers everywhere.
And yes, most of us have backlogs these days, especially due to bundles and to which freebies also contribute. Though having unplayed games in one's library for practical reasons is an entirely different thing as far as I am concerned. It's the thought and intention that counts.

Big reminder that it's not your business what somebody else does with his property, exactly the same how Bill Gates can use his latest lamborghini car worth $10M for frying eggs during summer. If anything, people actually contribute to the game industry by buying games, and whether they play them or not, it doesn't matter at all to anybody but the player himself. There are games worth playing, and there are also games not worth a binary 1 for being assigned to your account - in both of these cases it's the user who decides what to do with this, and not a general view of what he's supposed to be doing.
If somebody wants to play it, he'll play it. If somebody wants +1 then he'll get +1. If somebody wants to get 10 cents from cards then he'll get 10 cents from trading cards, and if somebody doesn't care at all then he won't do anything, or add the game regardless with some other intention. That's his game, his account and his choice, regardless how much you hate it.

It's not surprising that someone that wrote a program to mass idle games would have this viewpoint. It's okay though people like me are there to represent the interests of keeping sanity and the acknowledgment of the opposite end of the spectrum. Yes, of course the individual is free to do whatever they like with their games, just as I am free to have and express an opinion about it regardless of how much you may hate it.
You are right though it does contribute to the industry. It contributes to the plague of trash with which we find ourselves inundated these days that is a blight on the industry and unfortunately that does affect everyone.

Just wait until people appear who tell you that they decide what they do with their backlog and you should not tell them what to do, straigh before they try to enter your giveaway. Then they will get upset for being blacklisted because they have the right to enter everything, even if you want to close out the hoarders who never play :D true story

I was in you exact situation. Wanted this game the most. I went to bed after completing the task but did not reveal the code. Next day it says it is out. I was going to write into Humble today about it, guess I do not need to :) Though I am also interested in Braveland but Tiny Bang had been on my wishing list for a long time.
Cheers, Cruse~
