Do you celebrate birthdays?
Hm. Well shoot. Gonna hafta go down a tier from $4/kg comfort foods and $1-2/kg filler/veggies then? ):
Nah, really, thanks for the tip. But it's dawning on me there's a different issue at work here and it may have to do with 3rd-world ^^'
And really, I'm more glad than envious that somebody's getting a hold of their life for a change. Keep that up, fren'.

Wouldn't necessarily say it's a 3rd world issue, although it can be a lot tougher to get out of situations.
I'm also from a 3rd world country, so can fully understand the struggles.
But yeah, it came down to maybe 2-3 years of grinding and making the tough decisions.
Also, for like birthdays and stuff, I would save all my rewards points from different schemes so I'm still able to buy gifts, etc. and not have to spend the cash. It worked out great, but took a few months to get all the rewards programs aligned to maximise it. Now that all is in place, I can earn about 5% back of my salary back per month.
So there are loads of ways to save, spend wisely, and get rewarded over time to help my struggles out of debt.
I didn't mention that on top of all this, I'm also still paying for my fiance's studies. So once she has completed and working a fulltime job, then her income can easily double, and we'll be able to do a lot more in terms of saving and things towards the house.
So just stick in there, I'm sure you can make some plans for your situation.

Coming from a different culture and country. I still live with my parents, so I see them everyday. I enjoy just the gathering together for a meal where everyone of the immediate family sits down at the table to enjoy the meal. Do not need to be fancy as I told my sibling just a simple gathering and its more than sufficient for my parents to see my siblings and their children. :) I bet you cherish such gatherings more than I do. :D

Yes, indeed. I only enjoy gathering with my sibling's family. Uncles and Aunts not so much. It becomes hectic and tiring. A limited dose of fun is good fun so you're more likely to appreciate it more. :D
Cheers and have a great Birthday week, just cause its your birthday and you can celebrate as long as you wanted to. ;D

Another year has gone, but for once it hasn't been all that bad. For those who can recall, I posted this train last year, indicating some financial issues, and having to stream down on some spending here and there. Over the past year, I've managed to claw my way out of debt, as well as start on the path to actually saving towards a house and getting married - both of which will probably happen in early 2019.
For as long as I can remember, I've not celebrated birthdays. My uncle had a small get-together for my 21st more than a decade ago, which, although it wasn't formal, was the last time I actually did something. So this year, my fiance and decided to celebrate for once. This will include a dinner date for the two of us, and then a braai (barbecue) I'll host for friends the weekend thereafter. And, to cap it all off, I've also decided to celebrate with you guys.
I've created a train that will end on my birthday, so a few lucky SG users will also get to celebrate on the day. Yay!
You can jump aboard right here. It's not the greatest, and includes a lot of leftovers, but there are a few nice ones thrown in. Hope you enjoy!
