A 401k is a retirement plan, and used to be a very common thing. It's not notable. My grandfather live sin New York and has a 401k, so this would also be a reference to my grandfather, who definitely has nothing to do with the Max Payne series.
As Jonex suggested, they likely referenced John McClane from the Die Hard movies. It probably has nothing to do with the 401k you noticed.

That John McClane had 401 K as pension, which is the same amount as Max Payne earned as private bodyguard as said in the game!
