As others have pointed out.
No regifting and begging or other rulebreaking things is a great way to start.
If you have the means, sharing means you'll get higher CV and can enter better giveaways yourself.
Other than that its all patience. Some people won't win anything for a year - other win 5 games in a row.
As you keep trying, you'll develop a sense for what giveaways have "better odds" and when it doesn't matter because there are so many new giveaways made that you'll be swimming in points no matter how many giveaways you enter.
At the end of the day, winning is all about probability.

So, forum... ya forum, hi by the way.
There are many giveaways only on forum (puzzles :3) and also you can get whitelisted here.
Types of people you can find on forum on SG:
- BadASS - knows everything about site, is the true user registered on ''old steamgifts'' about 2 years ago, you can easily get blackilsted from those, but don't be afraid! Just don't make stupid discussions like ''I never win stuff plox gib mi somthing !1!!one!''.
- Giveawayer - gives tons of stuff, and mostly don't even participate in others giveaways so he has only sent gifts on his profile. There are nice ones, and bad ones are really rare.
- Weirdo - you met one already, it's MuahahahaMeow, and probably even other weirdos... Just look at her profile and names of skins in CS:GO :D You won't be disappointed. Those ones are nice, experienced, and... weird :D Just keep that in mind.
- Slowass - just like me, guy who replies to messages after bunch of hours :P
- Leecher - everyone knows who leecher is. But it's easy to avoid them if you wanna make a giveaway. You can make giveaways for +1 lvls, even if you're not +1, you can make puzzles on forum or just whitelist :)
Well, there are also people you cannot fit into above, but these are (i think) the most common ones.

So, I just got here.. registered, sync my steam account and I see alot of Warhammer and Company of Heroes giveaways.. LOTS OF IT!!
And yeah, I read the FAQs, of course, but still, didn't actually answer anything.
Well, any advice to win my first giveaway here. LOL :D
