Well, if companies like EA/Ubisoft keep on testing DRM on their customers, sooner or later we will get here, expectantly since cloud computing gaming is something companies like these are more likely to try.
Add this to the fact that you cannot pirate online streaming. I guess that will be the day I'll stop being a gamer.

Sub fees were never a good idea to begin with so. :P

I feel like XBox is charging for a service that should be free, too. However, I do tend to pay for it, but I only subscribe when there's a big discount on a year's sub. It should be a trade-off. Silver and Gold should have the online privileges, but silver should get the ads and gold should get ad-free (or at least be able to disable ads permanently or upon discretion). Gold should also keep the store discounts, as that's an incentive to get gold. Just seems to me like Microsoft is being greedy about how they go about it. Paying for an online service full of advertisements is just stupid.

don't put that idea into valve's head lol, this isn't xbox live

They should feel lucky I use it(Goes for everyone), not charge me for it.

No way.
That would be like going to the supermarket and getting charged a five dollar entry fee for the privilege of setting foot in the building. Either you pay for the games, or you pay a subscription fee which includes access to the games.
If you'd pay a five dollar monthly premium to use Steam, go right ahead. I certainly wouldn't. I've already paid thousands of dollars for my games, and many of them required Steam as their copy protection system. No offence intended, but if you're willing to pay a premium for an unavoidable DRM service, you need your head read IMHO...

i would not give them even 1 coin. The games on steam are overpriced anyway and policy where 1 dollar = 1 euro = 1 pound is retarded

It is often 1$ = 1€, but not as a rule. I think 1$ = 1£ is very rare, if ever used.
It seems to me the biggest problem is that older titles often gets the 20$/20€ price. At launch atleast some publishers try to even it out a bit instead of doing 60$ = 60€. But yea the regional pricing isn't exactly sophisticated, leaves a lot to be desired.

f*** that, i payed for most of my games, if they made it so you had to pay to use the service, or not be able to play your games im sure there would be lots of lawsuits.
*edit: now if they added a premium or something i could see that, get priory for downloading

Eh, if I had to start paying to access my games that I already own I guess it'd be time to take up pirating.
It's bad enough that I have to pay to access the multiplayer portions of my games on Xbox. =\ Getting pretty tired of that, but at least I only pay $25 a year for it.
If Steam had an optional subscription with some good benefits for a cheap price then I'd definitely think about it.

Honestly, I deal with xbox gold because you can catch it for cheap on sales. I'm talking $1 for 1 month, or 3 months for $10. That, I can handle. But I think the only reason I deal with it is because my other services are free. If everyone wanted to charge for internet, I'd have to cut some services off.

Just to access the games that I have already paid for? No.
If the subscription came with a reasonable discount, free games (permanent or just while subscribed), or other benefits? Yes... if the benefits are equal to, or greater than, the cost.

Absolutely not. I would immediately back up and, if necessary, crack all the games I already do own, and refuse to purchase from them any more.
I might pay if the discounts were regular enough and desirable enough to make it worthwhile, but that's hjust then an economic choice. But I'd be afraid that they would be threatening what made them so great for many users in tehf irst place - Steam sales are, for a lot of people, a way to buy games in a decent volume that they couldn't afford otherwise.

Only if they did something like Sony does with Playstation+. Instead of charging for you to play online or use their service, they allow people have have exclusive discounts and free games with their premium membership. And instead of small demos, they allow you to play the full game for a limited period of time.
Add more cloud storage to that, and I'd be more than happy to pay for such a service.
And yeah, I agree with you about Xbox Live Gold. They're basically charging for "features" that are free for PC gamers, such as LastFM and YouTube. The only real bonus to XBL Gold is the free to play game Happy Wars. But then again, PC and PS3 gamers also get free to play shit without a sub, right? ._.

Did you click this link thinking steam was going to add subscription fees?
Quick question, would you use steam if it had Subscription fees? If so, how much would you pay?
I don't think I would have ever started using steam if it had subscription fees, when it started, steam was very unstable. Maybe now I would pay around $5 a month to use the service.
Edit:
It looks like the general conciseness is "No", which is that I was expecting. What if steam offered something else with the subscription, like discounts, special community sections, steaming, better cloud. What would it take for you to pay a fee?
I feel like xbox is charging for a service that should be free to begin with.
