A word of advice: This is not one of those groups where nobody really checks what you do, so you can do whatever and nobody will care. This group is more similar to "Actually Playing Games" or "Playing Appreciated" where there are strict rules, and everyone needs to follow them to the T. If you're more a free spirit, who just wants to give some games and win some games, and not to think about it too much - this is not the group for you!

A word of advice #2: If you're thinking of joining the group, and entering as many giveaways as possible until you're kicked from the group - please don't! Many have tried, all have failed. Our group management tool allows me to see exactly which GAs each member joins, and as soon as I detect new members trying this, this person is kicked from the group and blacklisted by all members.

How to join:

  1. Read all the group rules (especially the "new members rules"), understand them (if anything is unclear - ask me), and be willing to follow them.
  2. See that you comply with all the general rules. if you don't, I won't add you to the group, so there's no point applying.
  3. Leave a message in this thread with the name of the game you're planning for your "new member first giveaway".
  4. One of us (Mdk25 or AZzoCat) will add you as a friend on Steam (so we can communicate with you)
  5. One of us will invite you to the group

GENERAL RULES

• At least Level 3 on SteamGifts
• For users below level 5: User must have a positive Real CV ratio (Check ratio here) OR Positive SteamGifts won/sent ratio
• Clean slate at SteamRep (https://steamrep.com)
• Steam profile has to be public
• Multiple or unredeemed wins within the last year - are forbidden.
• You must try to keep a positive group ratio
• Do not blacklist other members
• Be nice and civil to other members (for instance, if you win, please say thanks to the poster)

GIVEAWAY RULES

We only want quality games in this group, so members need to abide by certain rules when creating giveaways.
• Each giveaway must have 1,000+ reviews on Steam and 60%+ Steam rating OR 100+ reviews on Steam and 80%+ Steam rating. Games with 10,000+ reviews on Steam are allowed regardless of their steam rating.
• Shared giveaways are allowed (except for monthly, and free games). But need to abide by our quality giveaways rules (steam rating, etc.)
• Optional: If a giveaway is QGG-only, the gifter/creator is allowed to require the winner to play/finish the game within a set amount of time. Applies to "new member" giveaways too.

MONTHLY GIVEAWAY

• Each member will create at least one group-exclusive giveaway every month.
• Monthly Giveaway should finish by the 25th of each month.
• Monthly Giveaway should last at least 3 days
• Monthly Giveaway cannot be region locked
• Monthly Giveaway must have at least 10P value, and one of the following:

  • 10,000+ reviews on Steam and 70%+ Steam rating
  • 1,000+ reviews on Steam and 80%+ Steam rating
  • 100+ reviews on Steam and 90%+ Steam rating

SKIPPING A MONTH

• The ability to "skip a month" was added so people can be able to take a break from SteamGifts when they need to, and not worry about being kicked out because of it. It is NOT a tool to pick and choose which GAs you want or don't want to enter.
• Each member is allowed to "skip a month" (not create any group GAs, including a monthly GA) by simply abiding by the rules. No need to notify anyone about it.
• When skipping a month, you cannot enter any group GAs (i.e. any GA that QGG is in the list of groups).
• You cannot "skip a month" on your first month of joining (i.e. not create your "new member" GA).

NEW MEMBERS

Please read these rules carefully, and only apply if you're sure you can follow them.
• New members need to create a giveaway in 48h upon receiving an invite to the group
• New members first giveaway must be a QGG group-exclusive giveaway
• New members first giveaway must last at least 7 days
• New members CANNOT enter any group giveaways until their first giveaway is finished. (Finished = marked as received by the winner)
• New members first giveaway must have at least 17 entries when it's finished. Begging for entries is forbidden.
• New members first giveaway counts as the monthly giveaway of the month he joined
• New members first giveaway cannot be region locked
• New members first giveaway must have at least 10P value, and one of the following:

  • 10,000+ reviews on Steam and 70%+ Steam rating
  • 1,000+ reviews on Steam and 80%+ Steam rating
  • 100+ reviews on Steam and 90%+ Steam rating

(I recommend searching for the game in the group giveaways, and checking how many entries it got last time this game was given away in a group-only giveaway, to prevent the situation where your first giveaway doesn't get enough entries, and you're forced to create a new one to replace it and wait another week)

RETURNING USERS

Users who left the group (or were removed without being banned) and were members for at least 1 month (did not leave on the month they joined), can return to the group, by abiding by the following rules:
• Returning user needs to create a "new member giveaway" on the month of his return. Which needs to comply with all NEW MEMBER rules described above, except the "New members CANNOT enter any group giveaways until their first giveaway is finished" rule.
• Upon re-entering the group, the user needs to verify his group ratio (value-wise and amount-vise) is positive. If his group ratio is negative, he needs to immediately create the GAs needed to rectify the situation.
• User wanting to return to the group needs to leave a message here in the recruitment thread.

For full list of rules, see our group rules page

Rules still unclear? Check here

Q&A

  1. Why do we need to use the ratio to decide who's allowed to remain in the group?
This is because if we don't, people will start mooching, and doing 1 giveaway per month while entering every giveaway possible.
And we want to keep the giveaways as fair as possible.
  2. Ok, but only ratio is not enough. What if someone buys a 50-games-per-dollar bundle, and gives away 50 games that are worth 1$ combined?
For this, we have the game quality rules. Only games with minimal steam score, and at least minimal number of voters are allowed to be given away.
  3. Yes, but what about games that pass the quality test, but were given away for free?
We have no problem with such games. If users want them, it's ok to give them away. If nobody wants them, the giveaway will fail, and the gifter will need to think of another game to give away.
Besides, if we see the current rules are not enough and people are abusing them, I'm fully open to trying other ways. For example, we can forbid a game being given away in the group more than a select number of times, we can limit the number of giveaways each member is allowed to enter, etc.
  4. Ok, but wouldn't these rules add a shitload of work to the group admin? Like if you have 100 members, that's over 100 giveaways per month. How can you check each one?
    That would be normally true.
Fortunately, I've been working on a Steamgifts group management tool, which this group is going to be the first user. This tool automates all these repetitive tasks, and allows with a push of a button, to see for example which giveaways are according to rules and which are not. Or which members of the group follow the rules and which break them.

Higher priced (10p or higher) doesn't always make something quality.

I'm trying to find a middle ground here.
On the one hand I don't want to set the minimal bar too high, and have no members because of it.
On the other hand I don't want it to be filled with 30-for-a-dollar games like very other group here...

When people post bundle charts it also shows overal review scores, so it's possible, why not make it a requirement to gift games with a minimum amount of score?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm concerned there might be games like GTA V or Starwars Battlefront II with low scores, but they are still quality games.
And on the other hand, there can be trash or free games, with high scores.

Let people use common sense, that they see GTA V as good and not as a non quality game because they get bad reviews probably because some bad business choice.

You could always allow any game with 20p to be accepted or lower p with better scores.
But there are still indie games that are 20p, been put in a bundle, and score badly, anyway good luck.

You're right.
These are exactly the games I don't want to see in the group.
If we see many games like this, we'll increase the minimum to 15p, or find another way to keep trash away.

You're right.
We've had an internal discussion in the group, and came to the consensus that we'll let it self-regulate for now.
Meaning, if a game is good it will get entries, and it means someone wants it and will play it.
If the game is bad, it will not get any entries, and the person posting it will be forced to post a different game instead.
If we see this doesn't work, we'll reconsider.

Excluding my own GAs (I'm obviously biased) you have: Kholat, This War of Mine, INSIDE, Rivals of Aether, RUST, Minecraft: Story Mode, XCOM 2, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III, The Witcher 2, Doom 3: BFG Edition, Punch Club Deluxe, LIMBO, etc...

I wouldn't call them free or Bundle Tier 1 games... :)

It's true that some people still make GAs with shitty games. But:

  1. The good GAs are very good. There aren't many groups with this amount of good GAs.
  2. Starting January 1st, there's a rule change that will prevent like 95% of the shitty GAs.

Well, quality could be determined by ratings rather than value, say min 65%. Also how does everyone in the group maintain a positive ratio - or how long does one get to fix their ratio?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I agree that going off of ratings would be a better marker than price alone; although it isn't foolproof either. Keeping group giveaways limited to games with very positive or overwhelmingly positive ratings would more consistently hit the majority of users benchmark for "Quality."

I have 2 problems with that idea:

  1. There are plenty of 30-for-a-dollar games with high steam ratings. I wouldn't call them quality games and wouldn't want to receive one.
  2. There are very high quality games, like No man's sky and GTA V that have very low Steam rating (for various reasons). And I would happily receive any if them.

I think you are mixing up "quality" with "marketing budget" then. Because putting No Man's Lie in the same sentence as "high quality" without a negative in there somewhere is practically the definition of an oxymoron.

Hmm... I'll try to make myself clearer.
I'm looking at games, in the "prism" of: would I like to try this game?
Doesn't mean it's the best game in the world, had good plot, or high replayability. More in the lines of: this game had a lot of work put into it, it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.
It's not something I could have built in my spare time...

You do know, some of the "bundletrash" in your opinion take years and years to develop... Depending on the developer ofc. If you don't want assetflips, you should just mention that. Don't think i can still get on par with your classification on quality, mainly because it sounds like you only want games where you personally would be interested in joining the giveaway/playing the game yourself and nothing else.

Where do you get your source? Why do you come off claiming someone's unqualified to have an opinion on a game you dislike? Can you please read the "be civil to eachother" rule again?
In my opinion, NMS is great. I played it without knowing what it was on PS4. My buddy got it release week and let me play it because he didn't like it. I thought it was a very entertaining, though repetative, galactic explorer. I was actually amazed by the size of it because I've played many other space exploration games both on PC and console that don't stack up.
Then, I looked it up.
It doesn't have multiplayer. "Huge" creatures are rarer than gold in the nile. (I've seen one big house-looking dude on one planet, that's it).
Etc., etc., etc. It didn't live up to a few of the promises by the developers and the vast majority of those Sony set for it, i learned, and no way was it worth $60, but it definitely would still be a "quality" game in my opinion.
I'd love to get it on Steam.

If you wouldn't, that's cool too. If you see a giveaway for it, just don't enter that giveaway. No need to belittle people who disagree with you.
Thanks.

As far as the "quality" debate goes, I think that there should be no hard "rule". I can think of games with high reviews that many would say isn't quality. I can think of many with bad reviews that are great fun. I can think of many that cost a lot that are terrible. I can think of many that are free or almost so, yet are amazing.

Why not put it to a vote? Have a different type of rule, where people who enter the giveaway (or not) should comment. On each group giveaway, check the comments. If there are more comments saying "this game doesn't belong in this group" (or something like it) then bad, and if they're more that say "this is the perfect game for this group", then perfect. That way, no one person's subjective opinion can rule anything that doesn't speak for everyone. Give people like a "3 strike rule" or something so that the person giving away has a chance to learn what the group likes (if overall it contradicts their personal feelings) before getting booted. It doesn't take but a second to type "good game" or "bad game", and it wouldn't take the moderator (you? others?) much more work than also checking if they're confirming the other rules (one giveaway per month, open profile, etc.).

Just my thoughts. Sent a request to the group, either way. :)

Well, since your group called "Quality Games Giveaways" you understand, that ratio is not index of quality giveaways. You always can buy some "1 dollar-50 games" bundles (as I did year ago) and make your ratio better. But whats the point? What is the meaning of giving away shitty games? I wanna give something to people what I want them to actually play.

Sorry for late response, I wanted to make sure I have plenty of time for your asnwer.
The way I see it, you're asking several questions:

  1. Why do we need to use the ratio to decide who's allowed to remain in the group?
This is because if we don't, people will start smooching, and doing 1 giveaway per month, while entering every giveaway possible.
And we want to keep the giveaways as fair as possible.
  2. Ok, but only ration is not enough. What if someone buys a 50-games-per-dollar bundle, and gives away 50 games that are worth 1$ combined?
For this we have the "minimum 10p giveaways" rule.
  3. Yes, but what if the 50-games-per-dollar games are nominally worth more than $10 each?
Then any member of the group can buy the same bundle (or a similar one) and give them away.
  4. Yes, but the group is called "Quality Games Giveaways". Where is the "quality" if everyone are giving away shitty games?
First of all I don't agree that a game that is sold in a bundle is neceserily shitty.
Secondly, as I mentioned previously, the "minimum 10p" rule is just the first draft. If we start running and we see it's not enough and people are abusing it, I'm fully open to trying other ways. For example: we can increase it to 15p or 20p. We can add a minimum game score. We can change the rule to only non-bundle games (with liwer minimal value), we can limit the number of times the game was bundled, etc.
  5. Ok, but wouldn't these extra rules add a shitload of work to the group admin? Like if you have 100 members, thats over 100 giveaways per month. How can you check each one?
    That would be normally true.
Fortunatelly, I've been working on a Steamgifts group management tool, which this group is going to be the first user. This tool automates all these repetetive tasks, and allows with a push of a button, to see for example which giveaways are according to rules and which are not. Or which members of the group follow the rules and which break them.

I hope this answers your question.
And I invite you to join our group :)

However, I'm concerned about the "positive group ratio". In a closed group, when A gives a game, then B (the winner) gets negative give-ratio. Even if B gives away immediately another game to get his give-ratio back to 0, then C (the next winner) will get negative give-ratio. And this will go on indefinetely since no member is allowd to have "negative ratio".
Best case scenario is that all members of the group give away the exact same number of games they win and everyone has a 0 give-take-ratio.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That is a valid concern.
From my experience (from other groups) most people easily keep a positive ratio by creating giveaways shared with other groups.
I'm willing to reconsider this rule, but before we cancel it, we need to understand how we can prevent people from hoarding won games, while only creating the bare minimum number of giveaways.
