After many years for waiting this game to go on sale for 5USD, that never happened and bought it on slae during the square enix sale on october.

So I already got all 5 main endings, and some joke endings, and i didn't felt it depressing at all, for me they were all just some machines trying to mimick human behaivoir, which wasn't real. The only part when I felt sad was at the 4th end when they launch the story of humanity tot he space in hopes something ever reaches them.

Thanks to all the people who left a note here.

It's sad that the humans didn't survive on the moon, that the aliens actually died a long time ago, and that the destruction of all the androids was planned from the beginning. The fact that their struggle was almost pointless. Emil's side story. A2's backstory. Trying to capture all the different fish. The novels that were released outside of the game. Something, something; despair.

The biggest reason I haven't played it yet :( Squeenix has insane regional pricing. Octopath Traveller is $90 CAD meanwhile it's only $60 USD. If you convert $60 USD to CAD it only comes to about $75-ish. Most companies just round that up to $80. $79.99 is the usual price for band new games (although some round it down to $69.99 if they're being nice) So for some reason, Squeenix decided Canadians should pay another $10 ontop of regional pricing.

Thankfully, it looks like they brought the price down for Nier Automata from $80 to $53.

Sorry for the random rant on your joke. Squeenix pricing just infuriates me

Game depressed me because mouse and keyboard controls were basically unplayable.

Maybe it just didn't resonate with you and that's perfectly fine. People are different. I've seen a few acclaimed TV shows that just didn't "click" with me, played high selling games that were average to me at best, and so on.

Maybe you should check out some interview by Yoko Taro (his worldview and philosophy translates a lot into the game) or maybe watch this video as well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NiyfG8Ctbo

I'd say the game is not so much about depression but more about nihilism, the lack of free will, and the futility of life.

And that's why you didn't find it sad or depressing, most players take them as machines that grew a soul, and yet had to continue working as machines, which is what they find depressing or to be more precise, hopeless, specially when you take into account what they were fighting for all along.

I think the moral of the story is that despite many terrible and painful events, some are still able to believe in humanity and great things can be done together. I felt quite happy after completing the game, so I was asking myself the same question as you. And I am a person who is easily moved by games and movies. The side quests and lore were sad though, but it was nothing that would make me cry

Yeah i am very sensible, that's why i get shocked when a series or game considered to be a tearjerker or sad i don't feel it sad or cry at all.

The biggets example is that "to the moon" everybody everywhere told em that it was a tearjerker, and i get it, but i diodn't cry. But I always cry at the tree scene from "mirai no mirai"

I don't know, I never really saw it as "depressing". I think it boils down to people using that word without really having a clear understanding of what it means. I think "tragic" is more accurate.
