While being bored at work I just went to check my Steam client and this is what it looked like (please take a look at the picture). It's all colorful and stuff and looking nice, but ... it's not really what I want. Yesterday I had a similar experience, but it was the screen just turning all black. I much prefer this colorful verion, but I even more prefer the full functionality.
Is anyting happening over at Valve HQ we all should be aware of?

Thank you for taking the time to check in. Here's a giveaway as a token of gratitude.

Nope. But there was a small client update yesterday. If you haven't installed it yet, you might want to try that.

How do you get to that page?

I honestly have no idea!

It's a raw XML that isn't parsed correctly.
Was it the first page that you saw as you opened the client? Does the library view work?

Edit: Sorry I was a bit too late. It's obviously back to normal.

Nope, it wasn't the first page. I was browing here and there, and honestly I don't even remember what I clicked to get there.

And to be perfectly honest I just wanted to show off those nice colours and have an excuse to post an invite only gib and chat a bit with people :>

I don't see a News Feed button at the bottom of the Store page. There is a News button at the top, but there's no Daily Deals option on the News page.

Try tabs like Explore, Curator, Wishlist, Stats, Recommended, any game you click on, or even in News (you might have hard time to clicking on that one, since it keeps adding stuff when you scroll down), there is a button almost at the bottom that says News Feed

Found it, thanks.

@eeev: Like icaio pointed out, that page is just an RSS feed. If you don't use RSS, just ignore it. There's nothing wrong with your Steam client.

Alot of people seem to have problems with the badge / wishlist page, probably another thing steam is botching up atm.

Right? My wishlist wouldn't load yesterday either. Not in the client that is, in browsers it worked perfectly fine.

It looks like you’re seeing some code instead of the page itself? I’d try restarting/ updating your pc and Steam, clearing the cache (you can do this somewhere in settings, I don’t recall where off the top of my head), or as a last resort uninstalling and reinstalling Steam. That shouldn’t affect your installed library a far as I’m aware (though anyone who knows otherwise, please correct me) but among these I think it should fix whatever is glitching. If none of this works then maybe tell Valve what happened to get you here.

Thank you for that detailed advice, alas, I switched to another page and everything is back to normal already. I don't even have anything installed here at my workplace o.0

Funky! Maybe see if going back to that page replicates the error. Otherwise it may have been a temporary hiccup on Valves end. But hey at least everything is back to normal :)

Yeah, that page keeps showing the error. I don't even remember where I wanted to go tho...

sorry for lil spam, ev

this is how the link you posted should be seen by Steam (that's an "RSS feed" and here below you can see it read by an "online RSS reader"). as you see, Steam can't see it the right way and shows you that weird code.

Hehe I was half expecting a hidden giveaway (as people used to hide giveaways in the source code, at least I have).

It's RSS and steam doesn't have RSS support, so it uses CEF's default renderer, which Steam hasn't styled to work with dark background.

LOL, looks like you hacked Steam!

I see code and stuff and don't no anything about it..........
But you've been places I have never even found myself!

That weirdly reminded me of an incident that happened a few years back.
A friend of mine caught me playing Dustforce and asked me how it was.
My honest answer: I have no idea, my cat launched the game!

He really did!
Even my (late) cat is more computer savvy than I am!

I don't really know how those things work, but here is my guess from looking at it. It looks like it is showing you a page of daily deals on the steam store, but it failed to load and now you are seeing the source code.

I have some problems with my Animated Wallpaper since a few weeks... or with the friends list on the profil, sometimes both of it dosnt load.

But I hope, and think, that its just because of the "bigger" updated for the client (library and some other small stuff).

I never seen such one before from steam.

I get only the "all black", mostly after sending a trade offer, or the all black and a short 502 Error Message at the top. After i jump to a other steam part and then reopen the wanted part the error are gone.
I have that since ~1 month or something around that and my connection is not responsible for it (i checked that many times)
