Well let me share with you my horror story as short as I can. I went from 8.1 to 10 home, at first I just downloaded the files and went into some video watching on Youtube without installing, I wanted to install when I went to sleep. Then all of a sudden YouTube stopped working... no, actually my Wi-Fi adapter stopped working!!!

I unplugged my mom's desktop and plugged my laptop to the router's LAN, then I found out in google than it's happening to a lot of users, I read and tried over a dozen methods and nothing brought my WIFi adapter back, not even downloading the driver helped me. At this point I panicked and decided to install the damn thing (remember, I just hit the download button and it already started fucking my stuff).

After installing Win 10 nothing changed, I tried a couple of things but nope... I downgraded to 8.1 and went back to a Restore point of the day before to no change, then used a restore point of a week ago and VOILA! Everything worked as normal, I went to work, and at night of that day... the same shit happened. I tried restoring back and didn't work, then I reinstalled the drivers and it worked again.

But the next day... (day 3) my nightmare continued. At this point I flipped and decided to make a backup of my files and clean install Windows, download all my drivers from my laptop model and after that I reinstalled Windows 10 once and from all. After all of that my baby was functional again <3

However there have been 2 times that the wifi Adapter magically disappeared, reparing the driver worked one time and the second time I had to reinstall it completely... so yeah, now I have to keep them at hand if something doesn't work. I turned off most of Microsoft spy stuff since they hinder a bit the performance and I don't want to share all that data, I share enough with Google already (oh the irony, lol).

Tl;dr

Windows 10 uses much less RAM and HDD space, it's a good OS, but it has some compatibility issues... so have at hand your drivers!

8.1 drivers work most of the time... but when they don't you need to reinstall.

I use Win 8.1 motherboard drivers, the Wi-Fi adapter drivers are the one that play hide and seek with me

the only problem I've ever had with windows 10 was getting Just Cause 2 to run, but it was a pretty common problem on the community forums and there was an easy work-around. I've heard stories of Fallout 3 not being optimized for anything past Win 7, but I'm sure someone's worked out how to play it.

To be honest, I thought it was worth it to upgrade from Windows 7 on my desktop. Especially since it got my usb3 ports working.

On the other hand I regret upgrading from 8.1 on my laptop.

This is probably a bit late but Yes it is worth upgrading. But a warning to keep in mind is that if you are upgrading a laptop, check the manufacture website if your model supports W10. I had a lot of trouble on my lenovo after upgrading. It was only when I went to their website I found out that the model I own doesn't support W10 :(

I'd say no. Windows 8.1 is way better. Been using it for almost three years and I've never had any problem with it. I love it.
