Potato os is better

The only complain that i have so far is the fact that in my region the calendar is fucked, other than that is really awesome, so far i have been testing it on X86 and X64 systems, it works far better on X64 systems , it loads up faster and all that , in X86 sometimes struggles to load up some stuffs fast

I upgraded my desktop from Windows 8.1 (w/Classic Shell) to 10 and can't point a single new feature that makes any difference to me. What I can say is that Windows 10 causes dataloss. The forced reboots for updates mean that some unsaved documents are lost, and others (like my XLS key list) get a duplicate with an auto-recover version. Now go figure which version is the one to use. If you're happy with whatever version of Windows you use (7 or later) I would recommend against upgrading to Windows 10.

^ Or another similar method.

Don't get me wrong, I really do wish that would be a nice checkbox in settings. It isn't. But there's the way to save against situations like this.

This article is from before Windows 10 was released. I actually have the group policy setting configured, but Windows 10 seems to ignore it. There may be another way to do it that works, but I haven't found it yet.

I've been running 10 since RTM on everything, and the Beta's long before that. It has a few minor quirks, and of course there are going to be some older games that won't run on the new system. That said, this is one of the best Windows releases I've been around for.

Really there is little reason not to upgrade unless you have some specific incompatibility. The Spying stuff is so blown out of proportion that it's gotten silly. Performance is easily on par with Windows 7 on my same machine. Live titles/Metro Apps can be handy in some situations, but without the need for the silly startscreen or anything. I like the new Start Menu mostly, Cortana is handy, if not you can turn it off. Task View is far better than the old alt+tab style. Action Center is great for easily keeping track of stuff. Even Edge is nice, all be it very early BETA regardless of what MS tries to say.

End of the day, for me, Windows 10 has all the pro's of Windows 7, the option to use Metro Apps from 8.x, and some of my favorite features from MacOS (Expose, Action/Notification center). It's been a great experience.

The only complaint I have is the Windows Update system. But I'll be honest, I'll GLADLY take being forced updates and such, if that means everyone whos computer I fix will be too. Everyone always says they will manage their updates, few ever did. Most 7/8 Machines I've worked on had no updates installed, ever. Besides, I'm technical, if I NEED updates off, I know how to do it. The one change I WOULD suggest you make is through group policy (or regedit) set Windows to NOT Reboot to install updates when a user is logged in. It's not hard to do, and you'll never find your computer just rebooting while you are mid game cause you didn't see the popup :)

It doesn't work for me. I have this setting enabled and my user is logged in, but if I'm away from my PC Windows 10 still decides it's ok to force reboot my machine and cause dataloss.

I have it setup like this. All it does is nag me all the time, until eventually it has enough and force reboots my machine while I'm not in front of it --> dataloss.

Edge is the worst browser I've ever used, and I go back to Mosaic

It's better than 7 (that was already great) but there are too many unecessary programs like cortana (that requires linking windows to a MS account), onedrive and some random MS shit.

you can get rid of most of the random MS shit. The only things you can't get rid of are Cortana and Edge (also known as Internet Explorer's crappier offshit)

I would suggest you to wait some time for patches.
First thing to do is to check the compatibility of ALL you computer pieces(rom, ram, gpu..). Since I installed W10 I had a lot of problems with older games that run perfectly with W8.1.
It seems like the new DirectX 12 has some problems with emulation of older ones. For example I can play Skyrim without lags(it runs even better than on last version) but I have horrible lags with indie games like Dungeon Crawlers HD or Loren the amazon Princess( which has no graphic at all)

Ive had it for quite a while and I really enjoy everything about it. The only problem is that since I have a built in microphone in my laptop, occasionally the Cortana automatically turns on.

WINDOWS SUCKS, USE LINUX!

Dude, people on this windows thread are gonna hate you. People don't like being told that something he uses sucks. Watch out haha

My friends mocked me when I, alone, used Linux and could not run many games, but instead of constantly saying that windows sucks for them, I showed them how I did not have any antivirus, how fast I could do things, how easy I could install softwares, etc. Now they are all switching to Linux (Mint), one after another = )

Linux is not only for geek people. My friends are lawyers, doctors, journalists and love Linux like I do. (yes, we all play games)

If You have many niche games and like to play them i would avoid Win10. Had nothing but compatibility problems, especially with few asian games so i am staying with Win 7.

i installed win7 on a secondary hd using the same serial key of the main hd, then updated it to win10 using the promo, then i made a clean install of win10 on the secondary hd.
result: my main hd still has win7 and the secondary has win10, both perfectly activated and legit. future-proof and past-friendly :P

To do it right, expect to spend an hour or two personalizing everything (not as easy as it sounds), getting rid of junk (very difficult), and other cleanup. After that, it's great

Until Microsoft sends out an update that changes your settings, deletes your custom tiles, and reinstalls the junk you got rid of. Then you need to either relent, or spend another hour or two putting things back the way they were.

still less invidious than GameCenter

It depends on your hardware. Ive got this old HP laptop with commutable graphics that doesnt have proper driver support past Windows 7. I`ve tried upgrading to Win10, but it was the same thing: only intel graphics would work.

On the other hand, my desktop works just fine with Win10.

Laptops running Optimus Technology allegedly had issues with 10 when I checked a few months back. Probably sorted by now but I'll wait til I'm prepared to format, just in case.

I vote potato.

yea its ridiculous how many pages of options you have to go through to turn it all off,gos to show how much they want that info from you otherwise they would have made a single click option to turn it all off.

It is awful, self-conscious, and more annoying than it's worth. Stick with win 7 or 8.1.
