I can only imagine playing card games on a nice, cold night in the forest while the fireplace is going inside a cabin. Must truly be a wonderful experience.

Watched when I got home. The subtle humor was a nice touch, and I'm glad the saws weren't as loud as I thought they would be. Also, one of our two cats enjoyed watching it, too!

I am pretty confident you will be able to do so. You seem to have a plan and most of all, you are enjoying what you are doing. That means you will do it thoroughly and will also see it through. :)
Plus, working with your hands brings a lot of satisfaction, especially if you can see the results right away. And with a project like that, this is certainly the case. I certainly enjoyed the occasions when I could do something like that (on a smaller scale) and watch it grow until it was finished. Lots of joy and pride, even in the many years after. It is - after all - an expression of you and your work and effort. :)

Were channels like My Self Reliance part of your inspiration for this project? Your close-up shot of dinner reminded me of that channel.
Another great one that I used to follow is Jamie Mantzel. His building methods and philosophy are very unusual but he's crazy talented and incredibly tenacious.

what is the reasoning behind putting moss between the logs?
i don't know much about this, but i assumed that the moss would speed up moulding.

Hey, what base do you use for your logs? I'm personally partial to 2, but e and 10 are obviously valid and popular options too

A couple of questions, if you don't mind:
- How much time does it take to setup cameras/lights compared to the work itself?
- Don't you afraid to use live trees as corner pillars? They'll eventually grow up and ruin the walls.

I've always (well, during last 15 years at least) wanted to have a wooden lodge somewhere in the mountains near where I live, but here you can't build new ones, and the few existing ones that are on sale are so expensive that I can't even imagine buying one before my own home!
I'd love to invite friends, light up the kitchen stove, cook a polenta and eat it with cheese and salame, then stay up into the early hours playing cards and drinking wine! Or simply to stay there during my days off, without people around, with my phone turned off, going out gathering wood and picking up mushrooms.

What is likely in the future.
1. black spots on the timbers/ keep iron dust away from the log house/ do not keep chainsaws indoors (iron oxidation, not mold)
2. rotting in areas that are prone to rain (replace corroded areas frequently, and if you are tired, have a BBQ in the log house).
3. not eating Amanita muscaria (you regret that in the future you should have stopped at the size of the tip of your pinky finger).
It is more fun not to know the future.π

No, no, no. Clearly you hiked for days through the wilderness, fending off mountain lions until you found the perfect secluded spot. There's an a lake nearby filled with fish. You get experience points and improvement in skill, and the fish you can reel in are larger than before.
