I feel like the marginal profit generated will not outweigh the wasted opportunity costs and electrical + internet costs. Unless you stole the computer, internet, and forced a slave to idle for you.

Yeah, but you have to go to the store pages of all those games, put them in the cart, pay for them, idle for cards and put the cards on the market (and with the mobile authenticator having to do that for each card is a real pain). This will give you maybe € 4 profit. Not worth it in my eyes.

Most of them are in steam bundles, I know because I got some yesterday for a few cents... Since I had credit on steam already for selling a foil card I didn't had to do much to pay for them. Idling is double click ASF icon (if it's not already running) and since the cards are not going to pop out all at the same time putting them on the market can be done in phases, easing up the pain of doing so...
And besides some profit that he might be doing, he gets to keep the games and play them. The cards are just extra.

People argue that they're on campus and get the internet and electricity for free which is reasonable. Still gotta factor in that opportunity cost, though. I could probably sprint around and find as much change or bills on the sidewalk in a fraction of the time and get excercise out of it to boot.

How about you sprint around and find as much change or bills on the sidewalk and farm cards at the same time? There are a lot of programs which farms cards for you so you can do whatever you like in the mean time. The way I am doing it is just like that: running a program on a remote virtual computer (free of any charge), while doing my job and socializing with friends irl.

I don't think it's worth it. It's quite a bit of time you need to put in it (even if you don't consider the idling) for a very small profit.

Well if we assume that 210 cards is accurate and all these cards sell for 0,04 each(aka 0.02 after fees) then 4.2 euro. So it's actually a loss :3
Let's be generous and assume 0.05 each(aka 0.03 after fees). Total earned will be 6.3. So it's 27 cents profit!

Some cards will net you 3 cents, others might be 10 cents, then there are foils that are usually 7 cents or more, and a few boosters over the course of the year.

Digital Homicide games cost me .08 - .09 cent and normally have 3 cards which will sell for .10 cent the first few weeks..
So you're getting paid .20 cent to own a DH game which you can later go and remove if it bothers you that much...
