In the absence of a better topic title, this will do.

Anyway, at the start of a year, I realized that I somewhat neglected my music listening habits. Mostly due to work, real-life obligations, or I dunno......the fact that I got hit by a drunk driver a few months ago so I couldn't use my arms or legs for quite a while. I mean, I could still use my ears which is all you need for that activity but then again, you also need arms to open a folder or an mp3 file so yeah.

The last thing I listened to in 2020 was The Slow Rush album by Tame Impala (I liked it btw) but I'm wondering is there something else that went under my radar last year. I'm not picky when it comes to genres, I'll listen to anything as long as it is good. But you can also take a peek at my last.fm profile if you think that might help with your recommendations. Anyway, hit me with some hidden gem(s) of 2020 and I'll give it a spin.

P.S.
Semi-related, but in the officially unofficial discord of SG, I'm also running a bi-weekly listening group called the #failed-musicians-club where we pick an album every 2 weeks, listen to it and then write impressions about it (good or bad). It's just like a book club except not as boring and no wine drinking MILFs. So consider joining and taking a peek if that sounds like your cup of tea.

I don't think I listen to anything quite like you do, and I don't actively follow album releases, but this collection has a lot of good songs like The Way I Feel Today, An Unlikely Event, 12th, Our Dominion, The Equaliser and Faded Photograph:

no wine drinking MILFs

You lost me there, chief...

Also, a book club except not as boring and no wine drinking MILFs
How can a club with wine, books, and MILFs be boring? Not sure I want to recommend anything to such a man now!

Just kidding, I just have nothing to contribute; I've been listening to a loooooooooooot of Helloween lately :D

My favourite album this year was Jarv Is - Beyond the Pale (it's Jarvis Cocker's new project). Then again, we've got very different musical tastes.

We both have a fairly high amount of listened-to artists (and both have over a 1000 that we've at least given a dozen listens to), but our compatibility is still very low! I'll probably grab a couple of recommendations from your list, but I think you're probably all up to speed in terms of the stuff I could recommend to you -- of the stuff we have in common, I'm currently just a surface-level dabbler in downtempo, dark jazz, etc. But yeah, cool list! Always neat to see people constantly trying to expand their musical horizons.

I'm guessing you're a Tool fan! If you haven't heard Rishloo, the song Omega has a got a "The Grudge" vibe going on. Full album in playlist form.

If a band has videos with several million views, they're not exactly a hidden gem.

I went with those two Laura Marling and Lianna La Havas albums. I listened to Laura before, from "Alas, I Cannot Swim" period, and Lianna seems interesting enough. Thanks!

I really liked a lot of the songs you recently listened to, so thanks for the recs! I've not listened to any albums from 2020 that's similar, so don't really have much for you. But I'll leave a few albums I loved anyways (my favourite from the album in parentheses).

Agnes Obel - Myopia (Broken Sleep)
The Midnight - Monsters (Deep Blue)
Leo Takami - Felis Catus and Silence (Unknown)

My absolute favorite from 2020 was this black metal album :
Paysage d'Hiver - Im Wald

Other than this, Hjelvik had a debut in 2020 called : Welcome to Hel

And if you're not looking for metal, then I can recommend some indie stuff: Microphones - the glow pt.2, Have a nice life - Deathconsciousness, Yves Tumor - Heaven To A Tortured Mind

All Them Witches seems an obvious recommendation if you're into Tame Impala. Landmark album is Our Mother Electricity, it's older than 2020 though.
