It was a crazy episode that's for sure (Which I didn't at all see coming, I spent most of the episode thinking "Wow, There isn't that much action, Guess they are saving it for episode 10), and it also means I only have Daenerys Stormborn and her dragons to root for now (Crown wise), But god, with this episode it really proves anything can happen.

I'm scared how they will end episode 10, I mean, How are they really going to top this Cliffhanger?

I haven't read the books, but a friend of mine who has read it told me without any spoilers, that there's gonna be a lot of new characters and that he was also afraid when he reached this point in books, but even after this horrible slaughter the story line is still great and keeps going on pretty good. So this is kinda my consolation for now, though I was stunned and I cursed G. R. R. Martin when I saw 9th episode.. :)

I enjoy the books more. A lot of lore isn't in the show.

Comment has been collapsed.

I say at least watch Season 1 of the show before diving into the books. It makes things easier to follow and gives you mental images of the characters making them easier to keep track of (cause there are So. Damn. Many. in the books).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I too have started with season 1 before reading the books. And then season 2.. Then I took a little look at the first book and compared to the first season to decide wether I wanted to read them all before continuing with the series, but even if I know there are tons of things being left out, I decided the series was worthy enough to be watched without knowing what was coming next.
I'd rather have a big WTF moment watching something I'm seeing for the first time than reading it in tens of pages. I love reading books, but I have to say the effect that the screen gives you when watching a good movie/series full of surprises is something different. And this last episode convinced me even more that I did the right choice.

Comment has been collapsed.

Haven't seen the episode yet. What do you meant they found a way to kill Ned again?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

He may mean the feeling you get when Ned is killed - you somehow get it on Red Wedding as well - a surprise death of character(s) most people enjoy. Ofc Martin loves to kill his characters, yet there are not as many as "emotional" deaths. Cause honestly - who cried after Viserys? Who will cry after death(s) of characters in next season (which I will not speak about anymore not to spoil fun for those who didn't read books)? Yet, at least for me, there are 3 deaths in a series (2 have been on a show so far) that had strong emotional impact, and this is one of them, so emotionally it's "kiling Ned Stark" all over again :>

Well - it's possible, yet also it's as possible that it was a simple mistake made by Martin - it's only one sentence in one paragraph, not mentioned ever again.

I've just watched the episode.
I started reading the books but I'm not yet to this point of the story.

I started thinking that was really wrong when we heard Rains of Castamere seeing what this song mean and from that point I was feeling like something was going to turn bad.
I wasn't expecting it to be so soon though, I felt like it was more of a future betrayal announcing itself, so when the slaughter started I was incredibly surprised.... a lot of "oh my god !!!" ; "NOOO" ; "WTF !!!" :-O

And then.... Rob's mother strating trying to save her son... and I was like... "Oh yes, at least Rob may get out of there"
So it was like killing them again twice with the final scene. I was devastated. My King is dead. Who am I gonna stand for now ?
I feel empty. This day is going to feel horrible.
And i'm so sad for Arya, I was so impatient for her to see her family again.

I still can't believe it....

Actually, he already gave the show runners a fairly detailed outline (his assistant has this as well) in case he passes on before completing the series.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That doesn't really count as spoiling the end, and I always figured that he gave them one version of events, not necessarily his version. Just a way to keep the books a surprise for everyone involved while still leaving a future for the show.

they may not be able to make it as these books are longer than 3rd one... They will have to either go for 3 seasons or simply drop the events happening in locations and with people who haven't been mentioned in the TV series so far (if they dropped whole Dorne arc for example, the main story wouldn't suffer too much, yet they would have to make third less material based on Feast for Crows :>)

It's obvious that Joffery's wedding is coming, but that last part of the sentence is a spoiler.

I was wondering how they've got this far acting like they did... This episode makes up for whole season 2 which lowered the ratio of Starks killed per season below 1, I was disappointed by that earlier.

Too bad The Walking Dead's season 3 ending didn't fuck with the audience like this, the last episode was just meh.

Have you read the books? The seasons line up nicely with the books - No main character Starks died in the second season so the ratio was always going to be less than 1.

I think that when you first meet Sam -in the books- and he is talking to Robb, he mentions that what he really wanted in life was to be a wizard. She says it as a simply off-the-cuff compliment and he takes it as so, but he looks a little 'surprised' as though he remembered that at one point he was hoping to be a wizard and she has sort of made it come true.
