Hello Steamgifters.
Let me explain what is this discussion about: it is about users with one unactivated game in account like month ago. It could be a mistake, missread ToS, deliberate violating main rule of this site about activating winning games or whatever else.
I think all of these accounts, and myself too, got their punishment or would get it soon, i will explain how is it happen:
You win a game and giveaway creator after checking your account, ask support for a reroll. Legit reason: your account got one non-activated game.
This is a most common way "the criminal" is caught. After that "the criminal" get:
-A suspension for 5 days.
-A reroll, that means losing the winning game. It hurts, and this is a turn point: someone are going to activate all next his winnings to prevent this situation, and someone is not care at all (bots or stupid users idk) because not every giveaway creator is checking his winners.
This is a fair part of my story and in my opinion the punishment is equal with an "offence": if you didnt activate a game once - then you will have a suspesion and would lose one of your next win for sure.
But.
First part was present for me: 1 month ago i have won a game and didnt activate it. As many of users i didnt read rules carefully and missed the main rule. It is bad but i got my punishment: two weeks ago i have won a game, got suspending and reroll of my win. The punishment catched me up.
But.
Yesterday i have won another one giveaway and to my big suprise my win was rerolled to another lucky boy. And it was happen from evening to this mourning in a very short term.
After tanking in my mind i make some conclusions:

  1. This situation is strange, because i got another punishment for same one "criminal" even if i didnt break rules after.
  2. I could win another giveaways from date of ending my suspension till today, when giveaway creator asked for a reroll, then got it - and i even didnt know it (was absent on site and didnt get any alerts, and didnt get any notes in "won" section).
  3. The important one: every time i would win a giveaway in future, every giveaway creator can ask for reroll. As it was yesterday. May be support will point to me another side, idk.

What do you think about?
Thank you for your time and take part of this poll. GA would be soon

Which punishment would you vote for "criminals" with "one unactivated game" status accounts?

Everybody can make mistake. After deserved suspesion he is a normal member of community without any doubts. I honor rules
Everybode can stumble: i'm putting in blacklist+reroll only relapse accounts with bad habits. I can forgive
Suspesion is a weak punishment, let's make it harder: he has to buy this game and activate it in any cases to be a normal member of community without any doubts
Well, Potato-boy, you have to provide us with twice many giveaways than amount of people was @ "unactivated game"-giveaway!
I'm from support staff and do not understand these discussions about rules and punishments
I have my own bloody punishment for this first-step criminal: lets start with a whimp and continiue with a pictures and description in my comment!

Well, in all fairness, I guess yeah, banned until they activate all their wins.

Yes, he can ask for reroll, but they are not automated and support-er should see "he was punished already" and shouldn't grant second reroll.
At least that's what I heard last time when someone was asking about those one-month-rerolls.

From what was told before by support, that's for wins not activated over a month ago. I.e. if you see your winner has not activated something within the past month, you will get a reroll, but if it has been more than a month and they have been suspended already, it will be denied.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yep, exactly this.

Regifted or Did Not Activate Previous Wins This Month

That's one of the reason you can pick for a reroll. Doesn't matter if the user was already suspended or not.

If the win is older than a month but they haven't been suspended for it, then we suspend them, and since there is

Suspended or Inappropriate Behavior

in the reasons you can pick, you're getting a reroll on that ground.

And if it's older than 1 month and suspension served already... I guess it's +1 Non received.

Well, if he'd win my giveaway, I would report him, and if he served his punishment I would give him his win. And if he wouldn't activate it, then I would report his arse hoping for permban.

Anyway, read what Support-er commented long time ago and was linked few comments lower.- was sure it was one reroll, turns out OP received one-month soft suspension.

This.
and sorry.

but, the best way to "redeem" yourself, is to trade for the game and activate it. if you have it from trading or buying no one knows you didn't activated it.
that way you have a clear record, and no one knows you were suspended.

imo no one should be punished twice for same mistake

so unless "month without a win" is part of punishment, second reroll should not be accepted

You can if you want to but compared to requesting a reroll (for not activated previous wins) which are taken care of swiftly reports afterwards take forever to be processed. I had one sit there for a year before I finally closed it myself.

I just found someone with 6 non activate GA's from the same day, all which look like were dealt with by Support because they do not show up on his profile but sgtools still pulls them up.

There's nothing I can think of that would cause a user to not activate 6 games on the same day, only to still be on the site. So, the only thing I can think of is this user somehow won 6 games that were all created as fake GA's by someone else, however this person marked them all received at one point, but it all sounds legit right?

Pretty sure this is what is pushing me into the casual private GA/Group GA/Whitelist GA category and making me totally abandon any type of public event or GA ever again.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Could they perhaps all be part of a bundle? SGTools checks for the individual games in most bundles. Support does not typically remove giveaways from the account when they deal with reports.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I've seen GA's removed from a user's visible history for being marked Received and it not being activated or for it being a ReGift maybe it was. Either way, I know they've done it.

The games are available to be purchased in a bundle on steam, but there are other games that would have been with either bundle if it was that, also none of the games are active on the Users Steam account and there is no mention of the GA being won on their page.

It's like the GA's were deleted but SGTools still sees they are there and were never activated.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I know they will remove regifts from the users "given" list. I wonder, does that remove them from the winners of those giveaways "won" list as well?
You can try to contact SGTool's creator on the issue to find out what's happening.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's not an expensive game: buy it and save yourself of a lot of trouble. Also, if you want to hear my opinion: as always, I think that you be banned until you activate all the non-activated and provide a copy for double-wins to the second giveaway creator, so he can reroll that giveaway. People buy these games with their own money. If they consider that you should be rerolled for breaking a rule, they should have the right to do so.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Can't you just trade for this game and 'clean' your account? It might follow you for long time some users would rather have undelivered game on their account than giving anything to 'non-activator'. You have cards in your inventory, you have gems, game was bundled and is listed in few trade threads. It's a mistake that can be easily fixed and only real question here is why you didn't do that already.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Why the fuck does everybody care about non-activated games and not if the receipient does actually play the game? Why is winning an AAA-title and farming it for cards acceptable, when activating a $3 game isn't? Seriously...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

1 - It's a rule that you agree to follow when you join the site
2 - CV could be easily exploited without that rule

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, simply put - I am not giving away copies of games so that others can use them to trade up towards AAA games out of greed.

If I give away a game all I care is that it gets activated and played. If it is idled for cards, so be it, but at least it went into the person's library who won it.

Also, like Kartyl said, if you don't mark users negatively for it well you could just have the same copy of a game being given away 100 times as it keeps being traded and not activated.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I know the negative effects of non-activating. It was more of hypothetical nature, in contrast to not-playing-a-game-when-winning-it. Seriously, does it make you happy when knowing you spend $20 in hard cash on a game somebody is never going to play, simultaneously taking the chances away from somebody who realy wanted to play it and would've found joy in doing so?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

i don't like that happening either, but we are just abiding to the sites rules. they don't mention anything about playing the games you win, just activate them.

you can always blacklist people that doesn't play their won games, not the perfect solution but it's something

I think if someone doesn't want a game, they shouldn't try to win it. :)

And if someone's entering giveaways to give them to friends, they can go play on some other giveaway site with different rules. :)

That would be a funny rule, one that might break whole SG: after winning game, you have to play it for 5 hours and get at least 25% of all achievements.

So, you're upset that Support did their job since you marked a game as received but it wasn't activated in your account.

You can't get upset that you neglected to notice something and someone else finally picked up on it. Length of time does not mean a thing, it just proves that more people need to be looking at the winners of their GA's.

You broke the rules, got away with it for about two years, then got caught and had to take time out of your day to make sure things were handled properly even though they had been missed for about two years.

Sounds like everything is Working As Intended©

Yet, you make a passive aggressive comment like that and say that you're not upset and it was merely just a recollection.

Also, Blacklisting you does not make anyone an "Internet Police Man(Should be Person, check your privilege bro)". It just means I don't want someone with an aura of entitlement around them like you to win anything I put up for a GA.

If you get a region-locked gift, you deny it and either ask for a ROW one and mark it as not recieved if you don't get one, or return the gift and ask the creator to reroll / delete the giveaway (it also happened to me, and I always pick the second option).

I like savouring the 1 next to the trophy symbol for a few days so I never activate immediately (but always within 7 days).

The only exceptions have been when I didn't get a game and a month or two later I see that a key got added after all. Thankfully Steamgifts didn't catch on and slap with a suspension though.

You're not a criminal and no one is calling you one but your psyche.

But not activating a win and for worse insisting not activating that win for a bundled game, which you can get from traders for less than half a dollar makes you "uncool". And that way you'll end up in many BL, which does not require justification, and that is worse than a suspension.

As support answered your 3rd question, you'll be facing lots of these kind of situations as most of gifters here use http://www.sgtools.info/nonactivated/ and ask for a reroll (which will be granted) whether you served your suspension or not.

Save yourself the future trouble and activate the game please...
