As a total noob, I created 3 giveaways that were wrong and had to delete them. Only later learned that deleted giveaways are permanently using a slot.

Do I have a way out? The ticket is 4 days old with no answer and I have a lot of games I want to give away that are sitting there...

Definitely don't open another ticket. All you can do is wait until the first one is resolved, support can be really slow here unfortunately. I hope that this first negative experience won't ruin your mood, and you'll have a lot of fun on SG!

same! this has been my first error on SG. as you've already sent a ticket, all you need is to have some patience (maybe a little more than usual?). but i would update that ticket to ask for even more slots (like 10, if it's possible)

welcome to SG!

Not sure if you can edit the ticket, but be sure to explain what happened and that you'd like some extra slots if possible. Then maybe do 1 giveaway at a time until you're comfortable w/ process. After several giveaways you'll have lots of extra slots and won't have to worry about losing them if you mess one up and have to delete them. It happens.

How many slots does a new user get by default? Is there a way to see how many slots I have available now?

A default user have 3 slots, and win 1 new slots every 3 giveaways completed, you can see you're number of slot by entering into " Create a New Giveaway", you will see this message :
" You're able to create up to XX additional gifts based on your giveaway feedback. "

Thank you. Yeah I've seen the message but didn't know how it fluctuates exactly depending on the feedback. Oh another question or two: How do you lose slots? and how can you fix that if it happens?

You start with 3 slots. For every 3 users that mark a giveaway as received, you will gain 1 slot. For every giveaway that is marked as not received you will lose 1 slot. You will also lose a slot for each giveaway you delete.

Pretty much everything about how the site works is explained in the FAQ if you want to read about other stuff.

Appreciate it. Yeah I'll take a closer look at the FAQs.

Actually, I just looked through the FAQ and I don't think it explains how you gain and lose giveaway slots. I don't know if it was there in the past and it got removed for some reason or if it was never there, so unfortunately your question would not have been answered by reading the FAQ.

It just says: "When you create giveaways and your gifts are received, this number will increase.". It doesn't have any specifics about how it will increase and I don't think it mentions losing slots at all.

Well, support is heavily overloaded, so yes, tickets might take a lot of time. But I don't think there is any other way apart from waiting.

If you will have feel it is taking so long, you can also consider delete account and wait 10 year block to start a new one with 3 GA slots.

Welcome to SG,

remember to not make the mistake to set the time the GA is running for a week or longer, 2-3 days are sufficient or even a bit shorter, if you have many games at hand
and consider to set a level restriction to your GAs, at least level 1, but the higher the restriction the less "thank you" spam you'll receive from autojoiners with script active, not to mention it's the most efficient approach to weed out most of the bad accounts, because there are so many level zeroes (https://www.steamgifts.com/stats/community/users) which can cause many problems to gifters, like taking a week to mark their win as received, blocking one of your scacre slots in the process or even mark it as non received and sell the key instead
i would also advise you to check your winners for red marks (http://www.sgtools.info/activation) if you see a red mark there, you can request a reroll for a new winner, just put the link into your support ticket

Feel free to ask, if you got more questions

What's the difference between the giveaways times? What changes if I do a 1 hour or 2 days giveaway?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

it changes how many people you're giving a chance to participate, remember that there are different time zones and most users aren't around 24/7, it also lowers the chance, of having an autojoiner as winner, because they are around 24/7 and the longer the GA, the more you're giving regular users a chance

Thank you for your answer! Another question, to give an humble bundle gift link, I should choose gift, not key, right?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

yes, but it's better to redeem a key and then choose key, because Humble can't track it
if you redeem a gift link Humble can track it, to whom you gave it and if there are too many different receivers, they can consider you a trader and maybe ban you

and be aware that Humble has region restrictions sometimes, afaik the Stand with Ukraine games had a RU and Belarus region restriction, to set your RR right, uncheck the countries, where the game can't be activated

To add to what Prosac said about Humble region restrictions:
I agree key is better but if you click gift you will get a popup with any region restrictions it has (if not it will ask for email address), then click back, X or hit the Escape key to go back and then select Steam Key.
Alternatively check the Deals forum for a dedictated topic about the bundle (usually made by sensualshakti), it usually has all the region restrictions.

Isn't against the Humble Bundle TOS to give a key to someone else?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

it's ok if you give keys
if you use gift links you will be marked as trader and they can lock your account (if you are resident of UE) or completelly close it (including stealing your unactivated stuff that you paid for if you live in US - because their TOS is the law there xD).

Also if there is oproblem with key that you have given away - if you write to their support NEVER mention that you are using steamgifts. For HB steamgifts is trading site and even mentioning it can lead to ban for your HB account.

i don't know, but the thing is, they will never know it and at least they're providing the option to get a key

If all your giveaway slots are used up you can't make a new giveaway until the giveaways get marked as received. So if you for example make all giveaways with the time set for a week instead of 1 day then you'll have to wait longer to make your next giveaway.
