This all sounds really interesting! I have never played Wasteland before. But this sounds very good.
I already donated to the Double Fine Adventure today :) Might also donate for this one! My wallet doesn't like this :( This and all the indie bundles!

To be fair the moment I played F3 I knew this is not the same game as F1-F2 was. On it's own F3 is a wonderfully crafted game and worth all the praise it got and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Still if we are talking about what made FALLOUT 1-2 so unique and great, not much of it got through to F3.
Again let me emphasize that I think F3 is one of the best games I have played but I like to think of it as a separate game, rather than the 3rd entry in the series.

I enjoyed the shit out of Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, but I still prefer the original two (and let's not forget the often-ignored Fallout Tactics). There are only a handful of successful turn-based franchises left, so to a fan like me every new one counts. I understand that turn-based certainly isn't for everyone (which is why so many turn-based games have very limited budgets, have failed to attract an audience, and/or have gone real-time with their latest installments), but to me turn-based gameplay just allows for a level of strategic depth that no real-time game can reach.
Fallout made the jump from turn-based to real-time with relative success, but for every Fallout there's a Jagged Alliance, which just makes me sad (especially considering JA2 is still one of my favorite games).
Turn-based games can afford to be far more complex than real-time games, since the user-controlled pace allows to you to sit back and think about what to do for a moment without a pressure to instantly react to any situation. Both methods have their own pros and cons, and I don't think one is inherently better than the other. I'm just happy that there are still some developers that haven't forgot about the turn-based fans.
