So, going off my thread here, I kind of narrowed it down (well.. I can't say I followed it too well). These are the games I've decided to choose between.

For Ys/Final Fantasy they're not specifically that game but one from the series, remember I'm going for something about $10 worth.

Please give a little reasoning as to why you chose one of the others, thanks!

Thanks!

It's public but here is a thank you giveaway!

EDIT: Well, I ended up adding a bit extra money and I got Dishonored GOTY, I also picked up FF, I chose FF13 just to get a bit of a feel for the genre, and then I'll pick up some of the others later down the road, and when FF7 gets a remake, assuming I enjoy it

Which to buy?

Dishonored
Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition
FINAL FANTASY VII
Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale
Ys: The Oath in Felghana

I'd appreciate it if people posting at least gave a bit of a reasoning behind why they picked one over the other, thanks!

Fallout 3 is a pretty expansive RPG so you'll definitely get your money's worth. I heard there's a chance you may need to patch it cause on some people's computers it doesn't run right? Final Fantasy VII is a thing to play solely because so many people have and it will open up a ton of pop culture references to you. Have not played far yet but from what I hear it's standard JRPG fare, but it was pretty revolutionary at the time. Don't know anything about the other 3.

Thank you, and yeah that's partly why I want to get a FF game, it's not necessarily FF7 but I think it'd be between that one and FF4 out of the ones on Steam.

I voted for Fallout 3 because imo it's the one that gives you most gameplay time (same applies to FVN). Dishonored and FF7 are good, but very straightforward. Didn't play the other 2, sorry.

What do you mean by straightforward? Just kind of like you go through game and that's all to do?

I don't remember FF7 much tbh, but, if my memory doesn't fail me, there is a story you must follow to progress. In Dishonored, you have to do missions, one after another. For each mission there are mainly two ways to complete the current goal (good and bad), while the way you perform the mission can vary a bit, your goals are set.

Okay, I get what you're saying, yeah I can see how that may not be as nice as something with many various options.

Don't get me wrong though, Dishonored has a good story, fantastic atmosphere, interesting gameplay and is definitely worth getting. FF games are consifdered classics and good rpg, even though they are dated, and everybody should try at least one imo.

Oh, I understand completely, I just see why you think FO3 has that bit of an edge :)

It hardly depends on preferences since they all play different. If I have to suggest one I would say Ys although it may be a bit miss or hit. Those games are fairly hard action games. If you have the patience to learn patterns or to grind levels to get the final edge over the enemies then play them because the amount of satisfaction you get for finally beating that stupid boss is none to second to the here listed games. I had a lot of fun with them and will probably somewhere in the future buy the one I'm missing on Steam.
But beware two things: First, Ys I & II play different again and second those games may be torture for achievement hunters.

Yeah I know but I'm open to most types of games and all the ones I listed are ones I'd play. I'll take your advice on Ys games though, I think because of the amount of time I have to play games as of recent I'll probably go for something a little lighter.

I voted for Dishonored but both Recettear and Fallout 3 are good choices too. Though I'd recommend New Vegas, not 3. Also if you didn't play FFVII yet, wait for the remake hits the shelves; you can wait that long too I suppose. (:

Yeah, it seems like dishonored is a good choice, I do have New Vegas but none of the dlc.. I always said I'd wait until i get the dlc but maybe I'll just play without them, I don't know how necessary they are.

It's also a good point waiting for the FF7 remake, I just hope it isn't super expensive on release.

FFVII is getting a remake which will come to PC. Dishonored is soon getting a definitive edition, but that's not coming to PC. So I say get Dishonored :). I played a few hours of it so far and it's quite enjoyable.

Is confirmed that FFVII will come to PC? :O

It was announced at Sony's E3 press conference, but at the end of the trailer it said "first to playstation". So that might mean it's only coming to ps and xbox but i'm pretty sure it means pc, ps, and xbox. :3

Fallout 3 is a nice little console shooter with mild RPG elements and the usual Bethesda level painfully bland and bad story. Great dungeon crawler.
FF is hard to pinpoint since the games on Steam are quite unique and distinct in many respects. If you are new to the series, FFXIII is a good starter though since it is not a traditional JRPG but more of a combat simulator. FFVII is the most-beloved one, but it is kinda overrated, god-ugly, and the PC version… well, it didn't age well (worse than FFVIII). FFIV is also a great game, but a very old-school 16-bit era JRPG.

So I chose you Dishonored. Good story mode, good game mechanics, passable visual style, somewhat small but enthusiastic and not stupid community.

DISHONORED good story and STEALTH as well or you can have open fight as well.

Fallout 3, it's weird how immersive such a buggy open world can be. DLC's are worth the money too unlike most DLC's on the market right now.

Seems like Dishonored is in the lead, I'll leave it up for a bit longer while I study for my midterm Tuesday :)

I will always strongly recommend Fallout 3, for me that's definitely one of the best games I've ever played. The story, the gameplay, the Wasteland, and especially the music on Galaxy News Radio (Threee DAWG) make this game an unforgettable and highly immersive experience. There is also a ton of mods if you're into that but for me personally the vanilla version of the game was good enough on it's own.

You will finish Fallout 3 GOTY, then you'll finish Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition, and then welcome aboard the Fallout 4 hype train!

If you've never played FO3 and you like open-world games, its something you absolutely must play.

You know you want a FF game. Then get a FF game :) What FF game? Well, that is difficult. I would say FF VII

They're all good choices.

Fallout 3 has lots of modding potential as well as its open world. I always find something new in every playthrough I've done.

Dishonored has tons of replayability.

Ys and Recettear might be a bit niche. Recettear can get very repetitive but is still cute and fun.

I've never played a Final Fantasy game but I'm always hearing how good they are.

I would go for Ys series. Ys I & II are very old-school though, so those may not be to your liking.
Of the newer ones, I've only really played Ys: Origins. On lower difficulty levels, you'll probably steamroll right trough the combat; on higher difficulties it gets pretty brutal. Even then I found that practice, and hunting down gear upgrades made much more of a difference than level grinding.
