How successful?

View Results
Very VERY successful, HERE COMES THE MONEY BABYY
As successful as Steamgifts is, obscure crappey games all over the place in public section, still a few cool people/puzzles in private and groups
Playstation is Potato, PC Masterrace

Keep in mind that Knack 2 is coming up, but not for PC. Potential GOTY and the Bad Rats of PS4.

I wouldn't go so far to say I would say goodbye to SG then but I would totally use that.

It certainly wouldn't be as active as this site, but even without bundles, it wouldn't be completely dead. PSN does have some pretty good sales. Hell, even had Blanc + Neptune VS Zombies (Vita) at 88% off a few days ago. Shame my PS TV can't use both of my PSN accounts at once, I'd have that installed right now if I could.

Also, I have many more games than that :P

It might be crossbuy but I saw it when I activated my PS+ games over PC yesterday.
On 2nd thought over the PC website I see offers for all systems so you might wanna doublecheck that.

Already took a look to check for cross buy. Nada, and only PS4 on sale. I'll still get it for the nephews, but my brother has to deal with only my several hundred PS3 games on the shared accounts. :(

Yeah, cut out all the bundle stuff from here and suddenly there's not a lot left. Also, there are simply wauy more games on Steam then there are on PS and Steam games are generally cheaper to aqcuire (spelling?).

I'm so sad that only Nintendo of all companies did online gifting with the Wii eShop.

I would love a PSN Gifts site. Got my PS TV downloading Disgaea 2 right now. :P

I always found it so weird. Nintendo had a gifting system but Sony and Microsoft didn't.
I don't know why they don't.

As far as I know there isn't even a wishlist function which you can use directly from your console. I only relatively recently found out that you can at least wishlist stuff over the PSN website. Of course that's not a dealbreaker but it would still be nice to have since it makes it so much easier to keep track of games you want to buy when they're on sale.

Not very. PS games are very expensive usually and the sales are not great.

Plus is one thing I'm not interested in. I just buy all my games. So many in my library...

I have it anyway because I used to play a lot of GTA Online, The Division and other multiplayer games so the games are just a bonus. But even as a 5€ blind Bundle it's a pretty good deal for me personally.

My issue is that you need an active Plus subscription to continue to play them, and also that you need to contact support if you wish to buy them on sale later to keep them outside of Plus.

Yeah, I admit that's a real problem.

What's their setup this month ? I stopped buying XBox Gold when I switched from 360 to PS4 because Microsoft wanted to put an end to the used games market (and borrowing games from your friends, and gifting used games and everything that's related to that).

I don't see why you ever had an issue with MS basically turning XBL into a Steam style service. I can understand why the console guys didn't like it, but you're already a part of the glorious digital master race >_<

My 2 best friends are notorious release buyers so I can get pretty much any game for free (or in some cases splitting the costs) once they've beaten it one month after release.

Also I don't agree with all that PC masterrace bullshit :D

The genius part of this is, it's clear they came up with it just minutes before they went live at E3 xD

I don't either, I was just being a little obnoxious xD I spend just as much time on Xbox as I do PC.

Yea, that video was a really well placed jab :D

I consider myself a multiplatform gamer as well. I like to enjoy the best of both worlds. Strategy, Adventures or cool new Indie games that haven't made it to console yet on PC and AAA titles on console where I know they will work.

Attempting to kill off the used market for physical games is not a good way to get customers. People buying physical games on consoles may not intend to keep the games permanently, or may share with friends and family. And after the 360, with regular deaths likely increasing the used market for that system as people sold their games after the loss of yet another console, would you really want to be unable to do anything with the games like that?

I've never had a Sony console before. I had an XBOX then the XBox 360 but that was the point were I just was like Nope, can't do it, sorry. It was a little sad because I knew many cool people on XBox (mostly from playing ME3 coop) and most of them decided to stay.

I don't agree, Look at Steam, what you loose in the 2nd hand market, you make up in prices. If Xbox would have switched to a Steam style platform, there is no doubt in my mind that prices would have dropped drastically as resellers found ways to ship cheap retail codes to first world countries.

I don't agree with that since during the years I owned a 360, MS didn't do one sale on Live purchases in my region. After losing my Live account along with my second system (linked to a dead email and Support wouldn't help me recover), I went with Sony. They know what a sale is.

obscure crappey games all over the place

Well, Sony actually has some sort of quality control, so at the most it would only be "obscure mediocre games"
That aside, I'd use the shit out of it. :D

Screw Sony and PSN.

When that mass account leak occurred someone had stolen my account, added funds to it with a credit card (assuming stolen too). I sent them a ticket and it took them a while to answer, thankfully I got my account back, noticed the money that the person added wasn't used. I asked the customer support rep if they could remove the money because it didn't belong to me. The rep told me they don't refund money under any circumstances and to just leave the money there for 90 days, if the money wasn't charged back by then I could keep it. Now I didn't really want the $50 that was there and had no intention of spending it even after the 90 days. I randomly go to login to my account one day and noticed it's banned. I send another ticket and the customer 'support' rep told me my account was banned because the money was charged back and that I would have to buy a $50 PSN card and have customer service apply it to my account before it's un-banned. So not only did they leak my info, I also have to spend $50 if I ever want to get my account back and have lost access to my digital library and online access. Thankfully I don't really play PS3 anymore so I don't care too much for the time being but I will never purchase anything from Sony again. I was going to buy a PS4 pro when more details regarding FF7 remake were released but not anymore out of principle.

Sorry for ranting, this thread unintentionally triggered me.

As ambidot already pointed out: few games, also the prices.
But thinking further on it, something else came up in my mind (though not game related): FLACgifts would be great (for those who don't know FLAC: it's like MP3, but good).

Hundreds of games are available, and anyone who claims prices has never seen a PSN sale. I've gotten a few dozen games for $1 each, I got a Neptunia game at 88% off, etc.

Of course there are deals, but still it's 10000+ games vs. some hundred, and competition of Steam and the resellers vs. PSN, keysellers and retail (and the last one would hardly fit to digital gifting).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I did say above that if digital gifting was possible on PSN, such a site would never be as popular, I'm just have a problem with people thinking prices would be an issue, as if only Steam does sales.

Honestly, the biggest issue would be region based (there are US PSN accounts, PAL PSN accounts, JP PSN accounts, and they each have their own keys).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I do have a PS3 and a PS4, I bought the games I have when discounted (but mostly by retailers) and I'm checking deals websites daily for games (including console games, but I definitely prefer PC gaming). Therefore I know about retail and PSN sales. And I know that many people use also accounts from other regions (e.g. CDN is here often used for bargains in the last months).

Nonetheless, I think that the price level is still higher than for Steam.
