It's because the developers provided the games for free so they limited the number of copies they have

Seems like it. They had an extremely limited amount of bundles available from the beginning though.

For curiosity's sake, what were the 4 to 5 games you had your eye on?

I think it's much better than HB's way - HB sold a lot more bundles/keys than they actually had, so now people have to hope that they restock.

They probably only had x number of keys for some of the larger titles and didn't expect it to sell out as fast as it did.

They said from the start that there would only be 10K bundles sold.

The bundle has ended as all 10,000 copies have been sold.

I think its because it wasn't organized by fanatical directly it was done mostly by a few developers. They wanted to donate 10k copies of their game so they asked more devs to do the same and asked fanatical to host the bundle, that's my guess from seeing the twitter thread.

They only asked for 10,000 keys up front in part because Steam puts limits on how many keys devs can request if they don't have enough direct sales on Steam or 'player engagement'. They were trying to make sure everyone who wanted to volunteer their game could do so. What I don't understand is why they didn't try a restock with just the games for which getting more keys isn't a problem, or talk to Steam about lifting limits or issuing a special bundle key for all the smaller games, which you would think they would want to help with for a good cause.

Just tried one from same bundle; dupe as well.

I also just uncovered that key on my account after reading this and the other response. My key also says its a dupe.
