Hello Everyone,

I want to expand my WL. I occasionally do GAs for contributors/ active users (not bots) on this website. To be considered, look at following criteria.
I expect to add 70-100 people by end of this drive (3-4 weeks).

  1. Active on forums within last 6 months/recently done giveaways.

  2. Not rely on Dollar bundles to increase SG level. (Specifics- Using $1 bundle >4 times) not leeching (Around 1/1 Ratio). If you have 1.5, ratio I will most likely still add you.

  3. Describe how playing games has made a positive impact on your life. Please just explain your thoughts. Your response already proves you are not a bot.

3b. For example, some ideas are improving reflexes, spend time/co-op with family/friends, etc.

Note: If you are close to meeting above points, I will take a closer look at profile. Double check that profile is not private.
Happy Gaming!

Edit: Silence GA is live. I will keep open for another week to give other people a chance to respond.
Removed happy/time waste reason.

hi, i hope i qualify for the first 2 :)
well playing games is awesome because thats how i met my other half. through a multiplayer game, and we started off playing by queuing for games together and etc xD
and now that we're together, most of our dates are basically spent by just finding new games to play together or going to a LAN / internet cafe to play competitive games with a better rig.

I'm having a really hard time right now. Games are what make me forget reality for some time.
I know I can not escape in this world for ever (it won't be good either I think), but it helps.
I've found some real friends last year on Steam who helped me staying alive (I mean it!).
It is great to get to know people with the same interests and share time - great community, Steam and here! <3

Playing games has positively affected me in so many ways, it's hard to pick which is most important.

In periods of stress, anger and unhappiness, games help me relax and unwind and help keep me happy and sane.

A shared love of games was the basis of many life long friendships. I even met my SO through playing a game together, and playing games together is still something we enjoy.

Playing games has become a family bonding experience, as we'll play games together or recommend games to each other (except my mother, who still frowns upon it, but that can't be helped).

Games allow me to immerse myself in stories more than a book or movie can, and allow me to experience adventure and excitement, tension and fear, joy and sadness, solitude and cooperation. Through that, I think they've helped me become more empathetic and understanding.

I could never get my brother into video games. He was game to try them, but the only games that ever stuck with him are Civilization (the original from 1991), Romance of the Three Kingdoms (1985), and Pokemon Go.

But we've been playing board games whenever he comes over. Pandemic, Castle Panic, The Resistance: Avalon - lots of co-op focused games.

Also, thanks. :)

Games help me relax and entertain myself after a working day.
For me it is better to play an interesting game than to watch tv and most times i enjoy more a good story driven game than reading a book.
Games also helped me learn and improve my English language skills.

I also met my other half through video games.

You see, when I was a baby, my parents got divorced, but the judge couldn't decide who got custody of me, so in the end it was decided that I would be cut in half with each parent getting one half of me. It was tough growing up with only one arm and one leg; I had to hop everywhere and do chores literally single-handed, not to mention that I had trouble thinking straight due to only having half a brain. I spent much of my free time playing video games, but mostly turn-based RPGs and tactics games like Legend of Dragoon and Advance Wars, as only having one hand made action games much more difficult. These games helped me develop my mind since they require the player to think through strategies to progress. One day, when I was in high school, I was at a local video game convention when I happened to see another half-human hopping around, so I decided to go over and strike up a conversation, and after a while, we realized that we were, in fact, the same person, separated all those years ago. One medical surgery later and now I'm whole again! Not a day goes by that I don't take having four limbs for granted.

P.S. This was a joke; the only true part is that I played Legend of Dragoon and Advance Wars when I was younger.

I fail criterion 2 (not close enough to 1:1), but I'll bump the thread with my experience in criterion 3 anyway because it might be interesting to you.

Playing historical strategy games has driven a passion for learning about history. School was really weak in that regard, but the enormous deal I learned playing the likes of Age of Empires II and Europa Universalis 3 has helped make up for that. Of course, not everything in a game is exactly faithful to history, and games haven't covered every last bit of history I wanted to find out about, and that's how I ended up reading about it. Things snowballed from there and here we are.

On a related point, there's also a close group of friends that have been together (with some people coming or going, but a core staying for long) for some fifteen years now, thanks in large part to those very same games (mostly AoE2, later also others).

Thanks Cassol for your candor. Strategy games age like a fine wine. Warcraft 3- was addicted to playing and trying to beat other players in online play. To this day, I still play the custom campaigns.

After the drive is over and if there are still some spots, I will see if I can add you.

Crap, sorry. I had read the whole thing, then left the tab open and did something else for a decent while, came back and made a low effort post :-(

The common answer of spending time with friends and family applies to me, as well. On top of that, though, I've learned a lot of little tidbits, uncommon words, etc from enemy names of early FF games (as well as Chrono Trigger), gotten enjoyment out of tiny cultural references, and now (similar to the first point), I'm getting to share the joy of games I love with my kids. It's a fun pastime, and they're beginning to grow to love it as well <3

Games is one of the genres that I think have increase my imagination. When I play, I escape the daily life, and have fought dragons, and destroyed armies. While I don't dislike the games with only gameplay, I strongly like more the games with a good story, that "I" and nobody else is playing. I didn't like seeing the Tomb Raider movies, for example, because that time it wasn't "me" playing it, and saving the world or whatever.

Sorry, but I am going to borrow and ad:

For years I've lived a double life.
In the day I do my job,
I ride the bus,
Roll up my sleeves with the hoi polloi.
But at night I live a life of exhilaration,
Of missed heartbeats and adrenaline,
And, if the truth be known,
A life of dubious virtue.

I won't deny I've been engaged in violence,
Even indulged in it.
I have maimed and killed adversaries,
And not merely in self defence.
I have exhibited disregard for life,
Limb,
And property,
And savoured every moment.

You may not think it to look at me,
But I have commanded armies,
And conquered worlds.
And though in achieving these things
I have set morality aside,
I have no regrets.
For though I've led a double life
At least I can say,
I have lived.

OP joined the site 3 months ago, has given away 15 not-very-exciting games, and now is asking people to justify their gaming, justify their own giveaways, in order to be on a whitelist to win some Humble Bundle leftovers.

Many users giveaway Humble bundle stuff, so there is nothing wrong with that. However, I see your point and I should not be asking others to justify their GA ratio since I am relatively a new user as well.

It only costs the user a few minutes to write why they enjoy gaming and I just wanted generate some positive discussion.
If I removed the ratio req. from my post, would I still be unfair?

I did not intend to be rude or judgmental of others. If other users agree with your statement, I will just close this discussion. Many people thanked me and did not evaluate my post in a negative/condescending manner. Updated the post.

games definitely helped me to develop a personality that I always idealized. Not yet fully but I'm on the way to such. Since my childhood I discovered that I'm very good at racing/car games. Before that I had a personality with extreme lack of confidence and self-esteem. And when I hit very high (world) ranks, I became more confident in myself that allowed me to be more open to conversations with online people and make friendships...

I'll throw my hat in the ring. RTS and TBS games helped me evolve my decision-making ability over time.

When I first started playing games, I loved RTS, and I wanted an army that had every kind of unit in it. In Civ, I wanted to unlock everything, try everything, keep my options open, etc.

It took quite awhile, but I started to learn (initially through a couple rough starting locations on maps) that if I focused on a couple specific tasks, I could eventually get to more of what I wanted, and I'd be more successful. Applies to life, too - if I get too spread out, I can't finish anything I need to. Occasionally, I have to pass opportunities by to focus on completing / pay attention to what's in front of me.

Growing up playing games, I don't know if it was positive or negative. It was just something I did for entertainment. No different than watching TV. Now that I'm older however, I love videogames because they allow me to keep in touch with friends. I can't jhang out with them everyday because we have our own jobs/lives but we can play games together often.

Hi,
your search looks more detailed then by a lot of people and i like that.
Each and everyone know what i think about bots, autojoiners and all other one's that go willingly against the rules or try to exploit the system.

  • I am actice at the Forums and have a own thread were i post from time to time a bunch of GA's. All that are for "anyone" are protected with sgtools (0.5 real cv ratio, level 2, not only give region restricted out, tradban check + all minimum checks) to hold at least the extremest leechers away.
https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/Bc22Q/masafors-giveaways-14-new-gas-lvl2-05-real-cv-ratio-o (at the moment no running GA and the last 2 times was only for Group + WL because of to much negativ results with the winners from the Invite only GA's and a demotivated mood -mostly because of the extreme cv farming with the $1 Bundles [I see winners with 20 copies of them.... and not only one ! ... and a lot that only give cv farming stuff out...never anything else... all in all 1/3 of my winners.... and i think that number is MUCH to high and negative for the site as well]-).
  • Point two is positive too
  • Point three: Playing games made the positive effect of relaxing and feeling happy I try t avoid to play a game when i start to "hate" it or the other players :-D .. at least for a short time and to meet new, mostly friendly and sometimes very interesting, people I meet a part of them in RL too and had never bad experiences with the ones i meet. Playing with Reallife friends and my high number off nephews is a extra too and can be very funny They HATE to loose against me +giggling+ ... and i am so sadistic that i like it :-D. Playing with my girlfriends or subs are very much of pleasure and let use have, sometimes, a intimitate time too That work with games like Minion Masters.. so Team based as best.

Don't look too close on other people, and there oppinions, here when they can't handle a other oppinion. Or you get crazy :-D.
Look more on the people that have maybe a different oppinion than you but can handle your different look on anything without the Blacklisting hammer My experience is that a lot BL you only because you have a other oppinion, that you can explain, and the backbone to write it and stand to it.

Happy gaming and a good time for you.

wow quite a neat idea, def a user that improves this site.
i guess i dont fit to your whitelist, but i leave some answers due to having my day off and like to contribute.

first off, ignore any grammar mistakes since english isnt my native language, greetz from germany (the worldcup pain is real!)
i might be not that active anymore, but who knows, it might change any time.
my ratio should be still apply to be positive, even tho i won quite a lot within the last 4 weeks.

why video gaming improved my life:
i am not one of the majority users here, at least i guess that.... i am already old now (30+)
i grew up with computers, the internet and the first games that came out on a c64 (leisure suit larry haha), later on our first own PC with 25mhz in the 80ies.
games back then definetely improved my spatial thinking, reaction, brain / hand coordination and to spend actually time in solving puzzles (monkey island, zac mc kracken, indiana jones and so on)
i switched to 3d shooters in the 90ties like doom, wolfenstein, quake and soldiers of fortune. this boosted my reaction skills to the maximum and helped me on my way to be a teamplayer and what it needs to coomunicate with random players from the rest of the world.
of course this forced me to hang into the english language, which helped me at school quite a lot.

i might lost track what the actual question was, but i felt into the mood of writing my small way to be a computer user/gamer
nowadays i dont have much time anymore to play like i would love to....due to work, wife and overall the ability to spend hours in front of a computer.
BUT some games still catch my attention and i try to find at least a few hours a week to let go, to dive into something and smoke.

thanks for the attention, greetings and keep your heads up
