Yes I know it is called Humble Choice now but it is a shitty name so I'll ignore it.

Hello hello and welcome all to the madness.
The challenge is simple: Play and beat any 6 games, starting today, that have been featured in any given Humble Monthly/Choice bundle in one month.
The prize: GreedFall

Game length does not matter and I'm not looking for 100% achievement runs. So long as you play and beat 6 games, I'm happy. You can go easy mode and play a bunch of 1h games or go crazy and play 6 +30h games. So long as they were in a monthly at a given point, it is all good.

Just post a comment with either screenshots/ achievements showing that you fulfilled the criteria and I'll add on Steam and give you the link. Feel free to share your thoughts on the games you've played, but it is not required.

FAQ:

Why you doing this?

I hate money. That and I realized I've been subbed to the monthly for nearly five years (yes it has been that long, I checked) and it occurred to me that I've barely touched the games I've gotten from it, let alone played them. Figured the same would be true for a few others, so I figured this is a good way to change that. A sensible person would probably unsub in this situation, but please refer to the beginning as to why that will not happen.

Why six games?

The first few monthlies had 6/7 games in them so I went with that.

How long are you going to do this?

Until my credit card statements gives me nightmares.

This event "ends" on April 3rd when the next HB Choice releases, though the giveaway itself will end the next day. If you manage to finish game number six in between that time, feel free to post, but know that I cannot guarantee that I'll be able to give you the link in time. It may be hard to believe, but I don't live here. I live at my real life job since it seems like I never leave that place :/.

Good luck and have fun.
Thanks for reading, here's a cookie.

.If you are wondering why you don't see a private giveaway running on my profile, my purchase was flagged for manual review on Gamersgate ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. I'll make one the moment they realize I'm not evil. All good now :D.

Shit, most I can do is 3. Or 4 if you count the games I've started but not beaten yet (PUSS is incredibly challenging and demoralizing game). I' guessing I can't qualify by beating most games I got from Humble Monthly already, can I?

If you've been keeping up with the free games from Twitch prime or Epic Games store, there are a number of Humble Monthly games in those lists you may not have started yet.

  • Tomb Raider (January 2018) beaten
  • State of Mind (September 2019) - completed

And I've done it. I challenged myself to play some short games over the weekend and review them so I just expanded it after seeing this.

Western Press
Scanner Sombre
Tiny Echo
Aaero
Old Man's Journey
Crawl

Some like Crawl and Aaero are obviously "finished" in a sense that you can always keep playing them for higher scores or difficulty.

For the record I haven't really done it for the giveaway so I don't have screenshots. I just wanted to brag I got through six games over two days. :P

Hellblade is an interesting game and enjoyed it a lot. If you play with a controller, there is a run button to make her move faster, but it is mapped to something weird like one of the trigger buttons or something. I was about half way through the game before figuring that out :/.

I got the single achievement, but it's just for completing the solitaire mini game and hasn't got anything to do with finishing the main game so here's a screenshot from a sequence near the end, I hope it will suffice... 🤔

This is a good challenge. I've been playing 2 games for the past months that featured on Humble. 7 days to Die and Conan Exiles. I like the building aspect of 7 days and mining. I enjoy the world of Conan, game is very beautiful, lots of areas to explore and lots of lore. I know they dont apply to your rules just sharing my experience. ^^ Greedfall is a good game released with minimal bugs, hope the winner will enjoy the game.

Interesting challenge, made me have a closer look at which games are in the backlog from the Monthly. And started and completed, after this thread was posted:

Kathy Rain 100%'ed
Paratopic 100%'ed
Last Day of June 100%'ed
She Remembered Caterpillars 100%'ed
Finding Paradise 100%'ed
Q.U.B.E. 2 Base-game completed - both endings, all non-DLC achievements

All quite enjoyable, with some unique gameplay-features. Paratopic seemed somewhat of a school project tho.

What were your thoughts on She Remembered Caterpillars, Kathy Rain and Find Paradise? The first one I played and enjoyed a lot but the other two are on my never ending backlog ;-;.

Comment has been collapsed.

She Remembered Caterpillars is a nice puzzle-game. Certainly quite refreshing with its graphics and unique concept.

Kathy Rain I found to be a sympathetic character, or perhaps a relatable character as she isn't all "superhero like Lara, Gordon, Bruce etc. etc., who each save the world and universe three-times over already before breakfast", and I'd be interested in another game. The story was good, even tho I wouldn't have minded it having stayed within the detective genre, instead of having drifted a bit into mystery. In any case, it put the other game by the dev "Whispers of a Machine" on top of my list of "adventures next to be played".

Finding Paradise has nice storytelling. To me it did drag on a bit too much a bit at one point (as I was pretty sure of a plot-twist already like one hour before it happened), but it made up for it by changing the gameplay in the "end-game".

Comment has been collapsed.

Kathy Rain is a must play if you enjoy point and click adventures, in particular in the style of those published by Wadjet Eye, and the movie-making style of David Lynch.

Good writing, excellent pixel art, voice acting and the puzzle design is also nice enough, no moon logic as far as I can remember.

Best games imo: Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, Yoku's Island Express
Most Difficult: Road Redemption (It has a rogue-lite system to make it easier each time you fail, but if you suck at these kind of games, you might wanna skip this one)

  • METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES is beaten, here

  • Steel Rats is beaten, here

  • Almost There: The Platformer is not beaten, I tried real hard but the last episodes are really difficult. Or I am not good enough. If I had a controller, it might be easier perhaps.

  • Evergarden is not beaten, I played a bit but puzzle games are not my type. I got bored after a while so I quit.

Instead of that two finished these:

  • Road Redemption is beaten, here
  • Kona is beaten, here

This was quite a good challenge. Thank you for doing it. These games were just resting in my library for nothing. I needed something to play them I guess. Now, I really enjoyed all of the games I finished. These 6 games are quite fun, I would totally recommend them.

Excuse me, just a little question. Assuming you keep with this for another month (and assuming it is still about the same)... What if I start a Humble Monthly after this event started, but I don't finish it during the same month (maybe because it was too long), could I finish that game during another month and still counts for that one? Or do I have to finish it during the month I started to play it otherwise it is not eligible? :c.

Not sure if I'm going to take part in the challenge: I'd rather play at my own pace instead of rushing to meet the deadline. Also, I've started playing well over a week before March's launch - would that be OK or seen as cheating?

For the sake of sharing, then: I've been making an effort to play the last Choice I bought, unrelated to this thread; my current status is as follows.

  • SHENZHEN I/O ... great open-ended puzzle, clever writing - as usual from Zachtronics. Lots of fun, underway. I'm only playing this whenever I have enough time, because it tends to suck it up like there's no tomorrow. Seriously, I'll try to solve a new problem or optimize one I've done already, and a minute later 1 hour has disappeared into thin air.
  • Eliza ... who thought Zachtronics would make a VN? And it's excellent to boot: intimate but with keen societal commentary. This has put Matt Seiji Burns on my radar as a writer to follow. Finished the story once, and meaning to try other endings.
  • Night Call ... great art style and music make for an excellent confessional atmosphere, giving the writing a chance to shine. Despite some tense sequences, it is for the most part a cozy place to spend time in, to engage with a diverse cast of characters and listen to their stories - I would keep playing even without the whodunnit, which I'm not feeling terribly interested about. Only the final night left in my first playthrough, we'll see how that goes as I really had no clue who The Judge is supposed to be.
  • Book of Demons ... played the demo for a while to decide whether it was worth a choice or not. It's cute, but the movement feels a little too cramped. Tutorials are clunkily written, luckily not the case for 'gossip', as the game calls dialogs, but they are wayyy too long for what little of substance they have to say. All in all it makes me feel like I should be playing a full-fledged Diablolike instead.

Well all games I played where good but I enjoyed most Silence and The Turing Test, they have a great story, especially Silence, and give you something to think about. Third place goes to Kathy Rain, also quite good p&c. Lara Croft Go was a nice puzzle to pass your time. I least enjoyed HIVESWAP: ACT 1 maybe because it's just the first part of a story and Dropsy because of the retro visuals and because it has no dialogue or text at all you just get emojis to understand where to go or what to do. So to answer your question I surely recommend Silence but it's maybe better to have played The Whispered World before( I haven't yet) to get the full story of it and I don't recommend Dropsy that much.
