HI all
Right now i am restricted don the steam market, it says i need to have a valid purchase, but this is problematic as my IP and profile location is different to where my PayPal/Credit Card are registered, due to various financial restrictions on my country. SO what i want to know is, if i get a steam wallet code from somewhere else, i.e. amazon. and redeem it in the steam client, will this remove the restriction?

Hope someone can help.

Yes. Merely purchasing the wallet funds and adding the code to your account won't remove it. You need to then spend at least $5 of the wallet funds on Steam in order to remove the Market restriction.

Yeah I was buying everything from humble until I decided to sell all the cards I have, had to make a direct purchase on steam and in 3 hours(did it a month ago) I'll finally be able to sell my cards for a little boost for the summer sale.

I don't wanna sell them, at least not all of them, i actually want to try and get some badges to increase my XP, i believe that is one way of doing it.

Well the market restriction will still let you trade cards so you could try to get some badges by trading some partial sets to complete others.

Yep that's the plan, as soon as i figure it all out lol, On STM it seems you can only trade cards within a set and not between, at least from what i saw so far.

You don't need to spend 5$ , you just need to buy anything from the store , your account is not limited you just haven't bought anyhting in a year

I have never bought anything through the Steam Client, as i said it wont let me because of the Disparity between my location and the location of my payment method.

Well in order to use the market you will have to buy something from the store

So if i get steam wallet code off of somewhere like amazon, and then use that wallet credit to purchase a game, that should suffice?

Yes, any purchase will work even if it's just a 10 cent game

Great, as long as i can get the wallet code off of another site then i won't have a problem, the only problem is actually buying through steam, i think it is a security measure that prevents me from doing it, but i don't have a problem on sites like amazon.

If he doesn't purchase anything he can't use the market, we are not talking about removing limited account restrictions here

When you have wallet credit, don't you still have to click buy on the game you want? and then it deducts from your wallet funds?

I was going on what I read. This is the page that comes up when you try to access the Market using a limited account. I just tested it in both the Steam Client and browser. The $5 bit is mentioned in the first and second sections.

Basically i know i have to buy a game to access the market, this is undisputed as it clearly states this in the steam app. My question was, if i used wallet credit, added via code from another site, i.e. amazon, to purchase the game. Would that count? or do i have to buy the game by using my payment information in the steam app?

I believe i got my answer from @windofmemory, but the above should help clarify the issue. (Hopefully) :D

It will work fine. The wallet code doesn't even have to be in your currency, it gets autoconverted by Steam and your market will be unbanned in 30 days.

i think so too, will eventually get round to doing it, I wanna save up some cash for the steam sale in case there is anything i want and then just gonna buy the required wallet codes and go from there.

You're right, of course. I didn't bother to check knaunko's Steam profile to see that he's already bought lots of games and this is just a lock that needs a purchase of any amount.

LOL, don't worry, my brain gets like that sometimes, especially in extreme weather, either hot or cold. A few days ago it was 6ºC (i think around 42ºF) here and my brain was refusing to work, it took me 15 minutes to realize the reason netflix didn't have any sound was that my speakers weren't switched on.

If you buy a game for 50 cents, it will unlock the market in 30 days. Adding funds only, wont work.

Yeah, but as i think i may spend a bit more during the steam sale i don't think i have to worry. It's just a matter of time now. Thanks!! :D
