Since the RPG is getting so much action, let's all showcase our favorite underdogs.

There was an incredible game company called Ion Storm, that had a flare-up lifespan. They burned bright, then disappeared. Of the games they released, Daikatana, Deus Ex, and Thief are their well known titles. BUT, they also released a game called Anachronox, and I will swear until the end of my days it is the single most underrated, underplayed game of all time. If you can get your hands on a copy, play it. It will charm you, take you to bed, and give you an experience you will never forget.

Hmm, I'd like to pick it up, sounds great, but I dunno if it'd work with Win 7 :(

It takes some fiddling. I'm trying very hard to get it on Steam, but the emails I sent were before the summer sale.

I could probably make a list longer then a football field of underrated Wii games alone. Two of my personal favourites include a boy and his blob, and little king's story. both got fairly good reviews, but are almost never talked about and the sales didn't compliment the games. Both have an amazing art style and I have put more hours into those games then almost any AAA game out there.

Little King's Story is an AWESOME game! Masamune: The Demon's Blade is also an under-played Wii game that's really good.

Masamune would also be included in that list ;P

The Saboteur. You're an irish drunk in Paris France during the Nazi Occupation. You hook up with the French Resistance and cause all hell. It's like GTA but with nazi's. It's open world and you live in a French Whorehouse. Did I mention tits? tits everywhere.

Loved the saboteur. Even after beating it, there's countless hours of fun seeing as how you can just run around murdering Nazi scum :)

Dunno how it'd be considered underrated though. It was pretty big

I never heard of it. Got it for free from the EA Deal when APB died, you got a free game. I chose that. The developer closed down right after the game was made. So I saw it as a huge flop. I'm glad I was wrong.

OKAMI
stolen from wikipedia:
Total sales for the game remained under 600,000 total units by March 2009, and was named the "least commercially successful winner of a game of the year award" in the 2010 version of the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition.

Okami has an awesome art-style, terrific game-play (preferred the PS2 version), and so much charm. Too many people prefer existing IPs and their sequels that they won't even take a chance on unique-looking, highly-rated games. More people need to play Okami. If you enjoy MetroidVaniaZelda games, you'd love Okami.

I would say Section:8 Prejudice is underrated. Its got a really nice fantasy shooting style to it that kind of reminds me of what made Halo good.

Scarface, it has the best features of all the GTA 3 games and really good soundtrack. It's really fun when you want to drive a car recklessly and listen to music. Also openttd which can suck hours of my life even days building a better rail network than the other guy on the multiplayer game. And it's free and completely moddable with a real good online content system.

The Germans sometimes put out some good stuff. (I did buy the Gothic games just recently and I think those were originally German)

Except Gothic 4 was really bad but then again Jowood forced Pirhana Bytes to release it when they weren't done and now look at them bankrupt.

Freelance. That game was just awesome and it's a real shame that we're not gonna get a sequel.

Honestly I thought it was terrible. They sold it as a sandbox game but it is 100% linear.

I will admit the combat was decent though.

Seriously, I love this game to death, but it got beaten to death by critics basically just because it's hard.

Second Sight. Maybe not the most underrated, but it got way less attention than it deserved.

I was honestly rather disappointed with Second Sight. Maybe Psi-Ops left it broken to me, but it didn't feel like a solid game from what I played.

Star Wars Republic Commando was underrated, especially for a Star Wars game. Because it's an FPS from a trooper's perspective, it gives a much grittier and militaristic look to the universe that normally isn't seen and wasn't really since the original Dark Forces. I'd say the game play was above average, mixing in typical shooting with some light squad tactics. The surprisingly good story and dialogue from the squadmates tie it all together. I'm still surprised at how many Star Wars fans have never heard of it. If you're a fellow fan, definitely give it a try.

I don't know how popular Amplitude was when it came out, but I've never come across a person who's played it or heard of it, with the exception of my girlfriend who introduced me to it. A precursor to the Guitar Hero/Rock Band games, and made by the Rock Band devs - Harmonix.

One of my top 2 RPGs of all-time, Xenogears, isn't often discussed in my circles or forums. It leads me to believe it was under-played, though not necessarily underrated. I really enjoyed Monolith Soft's follow-up to the Xeno universe in the Xenosaga series for the PS2, as well, but Xenosaga 2 fell very flat and I believe it somewhat killed the franchise; with the addition to Namco being the publisher instead of Square Enix.

What about Titan Quest? Yes perhaps its not exactly an underraed game but in my opinion it was never shown the deserved attention by gaming critics and was always too lightly referred as a diablo clone. Yes it has many similarities but to me this game truly shines on its own due to the huge variety of classes and builds you can create with your character. A shame the developing company went down close after they released TQ:IT but the fan community is still very active today and with various mods available it still remains fresh and appealing to me today :D
