I just got Total War: Warhammer and I was wondering if some of the DLC's are neccesary. I already picked up the free DLC's. But I was wondering if some of the DLC's were well, essential.

Well the base game is awesome and all ... but missing a whole race from the game seems kinda game breaking D:

I like warhammer a lot , its one of the few board games i still play nowadays ... but just thinking of playing the game , and knowing i am missing a WHOLE race , kinda triggers me to unbearable extent .

To make you feel better i've added you to my piglet's list. Some people call it 'whitelist' but ...THAT'S JUST RIDICULOUS.

But as a physical player do you have armies for every race. If not how is this any different.

no, because that would just be extremely expensive
I've paid way to much for just my 2 armies

Basically the same concept here. You can view the base game as being one of the many starter sets that have been available over the years, with the DLC being the same as buying anew army. Except here you're buying a race not just a certain selection of units. The experience may not be the same but even if you don't way for a sale and buy the game/DLC at full price it's still significantly cheaper than maintaining the equivalent armies.

You DO have a point ... and nope i dont own them ... i just got my elves :D

basically we are group of nerds who used to buy some board games together , and when it came down to the warhammer one we just bough a race each , and shared the cost of the misc stuff .
I also got my stuff pre-painted since im horrible at it so it was pretty expensive :c
at least i like cup noodles D:

One of our wealthier nerd friends has a big apartament so we usually just play at his place , and one of his rooms is kinda the storehouse for all our goodies :p

I would say you have many hours of fun playing this without the DLC. Correct me if i am wrong but you can still fight against all races, just cannot be them without purchasing the DLC. Then once you get bored with the base races you can buy the DLC (don't know if they ever have sales on these)

Unless of course your favourite race is a DLC!

They are working on a Total War Warhammer 2 apparently.

For me the only essential DLC is Blood pack, You still can have many fun with the base game and buy other DLC later.

Same here, the added visual fidelity is too good not to have it, be it at a price or not :)

Haven't bought any of the DLC to be honest and don't see any need to UNLESS I later decide that I want to play that particular race/hero.

The base game is well rounded enough to ignore the dlc entirely.

They are a nice extra but its absolutely ridiculous that you have to pay a load of money to get an unfinished game.
DLC's are supposed to have stuff like extra campaigns, extra maps, EXTRA STUFF, not things that belong in the base game

But what if i want to play the Chaos race in the original campaign, which was released THE SAME DAY in Steam as the game !
So what, Chaos fans have to pay extra just because their favorite race was already created but sold as a separate product ? That's a bit unfair, don't you think ? That's what why we claim some things are supposed to be in the game.

I don't mind buying DLC's for extra campaigns, but when i buy a game, i at least expect to be able to play the original campaign with all the original races. I don't expect extra campaigns for them, just the chance to play my favorite race, which ALREADY exists in the game.
And that's why we call it unfinished, races of the original campaign should be included as playable IN the ORIGINAL campaign.

And the biggest rip-off is Blood for the blood God... I mean, come on, in all the other games you just switched gore and splatter on in the options.... It's absurd to consider splatter a DLC....

I still disagree with them excluding blood and gore and charging for it. Create separate DLC for free if it's about rating, that's the only acceptable standard for me. It's not big content like new race or new campaigns, it should've been there in the game.

Pfffft, as if anyone is honest about their age on the internet.

A simple "select your day of birth" is totally useless for age verification.

It's as stupid as the "I am a terrorist" checkbox on these questionaires you have to fill when travelling to the US.

They can hide it with 0.001 dollar price tag.

My point is, they only want to milk this DLC while pretending to be kind in all aspects.

My favorite faction is not Chaos, it's the undead and i was using them as an example.

And according to you, in Rome: Total War, we should only get to play as Romans and pay in order to play with the rest of the factions.

I don't demand anything, i just stated my opinion.
You're the one who got all worked up about it.
You should have just moved along instead of going on a holy "defend the game i love" war with what you called, and i quote, "complete nonsense"

How much into total war are you?
A lot? Sure, get them.
Otherwise, don't. Campaigns take quite a few hours, so the base races should last you long enough.

Well my previous PC couldn't even run Total War Medieval 2 normally so I haven't played much Total War. I'm a strategy fan though. I just tried Total War Warhammer, played it for 3 hours until I started something else (not bored just needed a change).

Only buy the race you are willing to play, only if you really really want to play it.

That is a bit sad for kind of players that like to play a bit of every races, no ?
Though maybe there is so much progression in one race to keep you busy for a while ?

It's really sad, I would like to play and try the wood elves, but not for 15 euros or so :/

Everyone told me the base game is still fun for a LOT of hours, yet it's sad how DLCs are made in this game :(

I would just say that you do not need any of the DLC to enjoy the game, they only add more replayability to the game which you can decide to buy when you start to get bored of the game if you want.
