I know about that... Our president has full control over the mainstream media such as online newspapers (Blic, Kurir, Informer, etc...), he controls almost all TV programs with national frequency (RTS, Happy, Pink, Studio B, RTV...), he even controls the Russian online portal and radio Sputnik and recently I noticed he even controls many "alternative media" youtube channels because here many people never watch TV (including myself) cuz pretty much everyting what we can see on our channels are disgusting reality shows, fake news and other forms of brainwashing. But he would never have been able to do all of this without approval of his EU mentors.

Brainwashing seems to have worked for you already, just in the opposite direction. Censorship in Serbia is one of the concerns raised in European Commission reports. But I understand that trash talking about a 4th Reich has priority for you. You'd probably prefer "mentors" from Russia, where the internet and media are really free.

What "Europen Commission" have done about it except except worrying for years? One big NOTHING. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings about the European Union by calling them "The 4th Reich" but that's simply how many people (especially in countries which were occupied by the Nazis during the WWII) see the EU today, not only in Serbia. And I don't care about Russian mentors or any other mentors who would work against the interests of my country and my people even if they are Russians they are all the same to me. I'm not one of those Rusophiles and Putinophiles in Serbia who would gave their own ass to be occupied by Russia, to me they are the same as Eurofanatics, Americanophiles, Germanophiles and etc... ofc I have many good Russian friends which is pretty much normal if you are from Serbia because of our cultural connection with Russia but that doesn't mean that I want them to occupy my country and annex to theirs.

Comment has been collapsed.

What do you expect them to do? Serbia isn't a member and censorship is one of the reasons why.
Unless you suggest that the EU should enforce their will on non-members, which ironically would be what a real 4th Reich would do.

I don't mind historic/traditional and cultural friendships between people from other nations. Your complains about the EU, your government and Sputnik being censored, simply suggested that you are one of ... those. ;)

Censorship is just an excuse, it exist in in other EU countries as well, especially in Croatia as I know and as I can see in their medias since we speak the same language. We won't enter into EU unless we de jure recognize Kosovo, then they would probably look to took more of our territories where other nationalities live such as Sandzak, Vojvodina and Eastern Serbia and then maybe but just maybe we will became EU member and NATO member since NATO guarantees territorial integrity.

Well the EU is doing that thing about enforcing their will in Montenegro which is also not a member state. NATO annexed them last year without a referendum. Just a reminder Montenegro is a country which was bombed by the NATO in the 1999 together with Serbia (when we were still one country) and where the big majority of population is against entering in that organisation. And because of their pro-EU government with president which is for almost 30 years in power who were scared to call a referendum for it because they knew it will fail and then they just voted in their parliament and ofc they voted yes and next month they became NATO member. Ofc in the eyes of EU and NATO that was absolutely legitimate voting although it was unconstitutional but who cares about that?

And that thing which I said about Sputnik, I didn't meant that our president Vucic censors them, they can talk here whatever they want about "how Russia is good and West is evil" and similar fairy tales... I meant that he controls them in a way that they serve to his interests, for example in mainstream media they mostly speak how we are in good relations with EU, how we will enter until 2020, then they move it until 2026, probably next time it will be until 2032... then they speak how he talked with Merkel and that she supports him and our EU way, how Macron will come in our country this year bla bla.... while in Sputnik they speak how Vucic keeps and strengthens our traditional friendship with Russia, how Putin praised him, how Russia will gave to us S-300 and other bs...

Believe it or not they have, do you think they support independent Kosovo because of Albanians? No, they don't care about them just like they don't care about us. Kosovo is full of natural resources worth billions and billions of dollars https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_resources_of_Kosovo

Comment has been collapsed.

But what difference does it make for the EU if Kosovo is an independent country or not in terms of how much they benefit from it? It's not like the EU is some kind of colonial empire (it's not even a single country) that's going to extract all the wealth from Kosovo. And even if that was the case, being part of Serbia does not make it more difficult in any way.

No, if anything, the EU just did not want a war at its doorstep. And since both sides of the conflict were obviously irreconcilable, they accepted that independence was the only way forward. Besides, the Milosevic regime was notoriously driving a campaign of harassment against Albanians, so in the public eye it made much more sense to support the other side.

Dude, our providers are obliged to log everything and make it available to law services since early 2010s. Literally every forum post, chat log, money transaction or porn website you visit, is logged and kept for 2 years with BIA having direct access to it without needing a court order first.

So, when there is a draft directive, that still has to be evaluated by the council, if it ever does, and that everybody knows that the European Parliament is going to crush with glee if it ever reaches them, about monitoring internet uploads in the EU, you talk about the 4th reich.

However you have a law (which would be illegal in the EU) that order all providers to monitor EVERYTHING, forum posts, logs, websites wihout even needing a court order...

Can you see the double standard?

I made a mistake, I shouldn't have mentioned my country at all since we are worse than any EU member country, but it's not about my country, we are EU colony anyway. It's about the whole EU thing... I compare it with the 4th reich because when people fought against Hitler, they fought to free their countries from a nazifascist domination that in 1942 covered most of the continent. They fought to have a sovereign and independent state and now the nephews of that people (or themselves if still alive) see their countries under a similar empire that though apparently democratic is quite oppressive and totalitarian.

Vladovla have you ever been in an EU country?
The way you speak about the EU makes it sound like we are Russia/venezuela, etc.
As a portuguese I can only see how good the EU has been for us! Not only does the EU sends us quite a bit of money but they also force our politicians to use the money for us, so there is less corruption.
For example in my city the EU has: built 1 school, 1 powerstation and 2 water treatment plants. Forced retailers to have guarantees. forced ISP to not cheat on you. Gave the resources to make a few new degrees. Gave the budget to renovate our medieval castle. Allowed to revamp our city park.
Those are the examples that directly affected me, they are probably even better changes that i didn't notice.
Do you know what my government built in this city in the same time span? a new bus station, a few apartments blocks and an underground parking lot in the center of the city.

EU is not perfect, but it sure helps curb corruption here in Portugal by forcing government to actually "waste" the money on the good of the people.
If you ever come to Portugal send me a message on steam. I'll tour you around and you will see there is 0 oppression here

I'll gladly praise it once it returns to its roots: a coalition of sovereign countries working together for the common good of their people...

What we have now is an ever expanding bureaucracy making draft law that they expect our elected officials to vote yes on like thee good little puppets they are! No elected official has the power to draft up a law and have it voted on, does that sound like a democratic process? And now they openly crave to end the last bit of sovereignty the member states have, as well as finally having their own army they can use to smash down any people wanting to become independent once again...

I dunno, Estonia became the fastest growing economy after joining the EU. The EU's financial support for the less rich countries is a massive help for many.
Of course it isn't perfect, but neither is your situation. EU does a lot of questionable stuff, they have problems with "democracy", their funds aren't perfectly managed and they've made huge mistakes like allowing so many countries into the eurozone (like Greece, which was never suitable to support a currency). But those problems are in Serbia too and in almost any other country. It's just that the EU has the extra international support and the vast global trading network.

No matter what you think of the EU, joining it is a good way to improve your financial standing while keeping everything else relatively the same.

The COREPER agreed its position on a draft directive, so they can negotiate about it with the Parliament

The European Parliament (part of the legislative) hasn't agreed on it yet.

(And btw.: Maybe use a 'more trustworthy' and less 'biased' source/video that explains it - or link the original press release)

The EU isn't gonna do shit. It has been signed a bill that MIGHT be evaluated by the council along many other proceedings that will, as usual, be thrown out because of many opposing countries and because it is uncostitutional. This is nothing new as there are lots of proceedings every month that never go really anywhere because their main objective is performing a certain number of presentations so council partners can fill their quota to stay affiliated.
Nothing to be worried about, people, just speculation and clickbaiting here.

Right on spot, the internet is a genie they let out of the bottle, never expecting it would empower us so much, now they want it back in the bottle...
It is a clean repeat of what happened when they took control over our airwaves when radio turned out to empower the people to much against the ruling classes... They want to turn the internet into several channels that spew monitored content you can watch, just like they did with radio and later on TV!

"MUSLIMS HAVE TURNED THE EIFFEL TOWER INTO A MOSQUE!!!1!!"
"GERMANY IS BANKRUPT, THE CHINESE NOW OWN THE WHOLE EU"
Bullshit that's been created just to keep us busy. That proposal will be on TV for the next 2 months and it's never gonna pass. Every government since ancient times knows that if they stop our entertainment it will be the end of them.

The Russian government is communist. They just want their people to drink, work and die at 50 or even better- die 2 days before retirement.
I live in a town that is being swarmed by Russians who have had enough of the government and are trying to escape before it's too late.
I doubt the EU will fall that low. I still have not heard of a, let's say, French guy trying to escape the government cause he is being oppressed.

lol, well, Gerard Depardieu escaped France and moved to Russia a few years ago because he felt oppressed after the French government enacted a law to raise taxes very much on the very rich

and, yeah, what you describe in your second sentence is like some kind of hyper-capitalism, ie. exploit people ad infinitum, rather than communism.

Yup, communism is very close to extreme capitalism. Both run on greed and cheap "slave" labor. Communism just has a more appealing name and relies more on one strong leader figure.
I've heard only bad things about Depardieu (not related to his relocation). He sounds like a douche and being a douche at 70 is kinda ugly. So I am really not surprised him and Putin are bff.

EU will be fine as long as Germany bankrolls other countries

EU currency is inherently flawed in that the currency is undervalued for country like Germany, but overvalued for southern european countries, which then become dependent on, say, Germany, for trade.

Bah it's just politicians trying to give contributors the impression they are doing something for them.
It's an impossible law that will go live with the rest of unenforced laws in the EU rule book.

Making sites liable and being able to prosecute and fine sites are very different things.
Unless they plan to completely block sites like Tumblr or Twitter in the EU, they have their work cut out for them. And considering the number of EU companies that make money off those websites through ads alone, I doubt anything comes off it.
