Usually I don't blackllist anyone for this motive, But a guy just won another giveaway of mine, and didn't say anything.
I messaged him A thank you would be appreciated and I was completely ignored.

Do you blacklist people who don't thanks when they win your giveaway?

View Results
Yes.
No.
Only if the game is good.
Only if the person won more than 1 game and don't say anything.
I think it's too trivial so I don't blacklist people.

Do you blacklist people who don't thanks when they win your giveaway?

I consider it common sense to leave a thanks when you win something.
However, for those who don't, I decided to leave them be. No matter how twisted it might seem they must have a reason for not doing it and it's probably something that's not related to you. And, without going into detail, these reasons can vary: education, mood, time, shame, shyness, non-English speakers, dickheads, ninja dickheads, scripts, kids, any other reasons.

And in order not to punish someone by making wrong assumptions I'm satisfied if they activate the game and hopefully play it even if they aren't kind enough to leave a basic simple thanks as an answer of acknowledgement for their win.

I would disagree with all of these reasons besides bad education and simply bad manners. I think all OP is asking for is a simple "thanks" so mood, time and being shy are off the table. Not speaking English also doesn't convince me because somehow the winner managed to make an account here and enter the GA.

I never said I agree with those reasons either, hence the "No matter how twisted it might seem" opening.

I never like when someone cannot spare 5 seconds to leave a simple message, not necessarily a thanks, as an acknowledgement for their win.

It feels like they think it was my obligation to give them something, or a complete lack of interest regarding their win. But then I remember not everyone has the same thinking process and life experiences and what I might consider being inappropriate, for them it might seem normal, for reasons that might make no sense to me.

Unless proved otherwise by further evidence, those might not be bad persons. It's just they might not function by using the same values for their reasoning process.

So I choose not to punish them without having further evidence.

I don't, but only because it's not scalable. If the blacklist feature wasn't limited to 1000 entries I probably would.

I didn't vote on the poll because I couldn't find an option that represents my view.

it's not like it's in the rules of this website , feel free to blacklist every steamgifts user if you want to !
everybody is doing it for no reason so why shouldn't you ?
I know i'm getting blacklisted for this comment so yay

Because if you don't you could make the giveaway creator sad and also why do you choose to not be polite? I'm not going to blacklist you because of your comment.

so you're telling me you're doing the giveaway only so a random guy/girl responds by saying "thanks" and you feel happy ?
plus you're also getting rewarded for making the giveaway by increasing your "Contributor Level"
and you're the one harming him because he won't be able to join any other giveaway created by you but you'll still be able to increase your contributor level anyway
personally i never say thanks not because i choose not to be polite but because i don't have time and i don't care
i'm not saying you're going to blacklist me i'm just saying that someone might not like my comment and will blacklist me because that's how the blakclist tool is mainly used :/
edit : i just got blacklisted ! so you get my point now ?

Actually I will not feel grumpy, what is good. What about the people who are level 10 and continue to make giveaways? they're not earning anything for it. I see your perspective and I understand your motive. But for the people who won and don't say thanks purposefully, I think it's a good reason to blacklist them. (I don't mind the first time, the person could have forgotten) Don't worry about being blacklisted, A lot of people blacklisted me because of this discussion, You can't please everyone. .

you can't please anyone actually (on steamgifts) xDD
but i'm just saying that you shouldn't blacklist them for only not saying thanks , maybe blacklist them for being rude , dickheads or winning too much at least 5 giveaways then you blacklist them for a period of time like 4 months or so after that you unblacklist them or at least pm them to warn then about getting blacklisted next time if they don't say thanks that's the least you can do before blacklisting someone for not saying thanks !

yes/no/maybe. i mean anyway you go about it i wouldnt say its right or wrong for you to do so. generally i would lean toward yes, but only after checking their previous wins to see if its just something they dont do or if this was a one time mishap. then again i make my public GAs lvl 5 or higher so i think think their contribution to the site is thanks enough. lvl 0, 100+ wins, and doesnt say thanks? BAN HAMMER!!!!

I do not blacklist due to not saying thanks, I see that as petty as I did not post the giveaway to be thanked or for any other form of self validation.

The only thing I blacklist for is if someone blacklists me and I do that out of principle. Outside of that, I don't care. If I wanted it restricted I would make a whitelist or put a level requirement on it and if I wanted the other person so be required to say thanks, I would put it in the description or make them friend me on Steam to give it to them personally so they have to directly.

I sometimes do and sometimes don't depending on my mood. I know people don't HAVE to say thank you but it just reminds me of when I hold the door open for someone and they don't say thanks. It gets under my skin :p

I have this assumption that if someone doesn't take a second to say thank you after winning then they are probably collecting games instead of appreciating them.

You don't like people who collect games? I collect the cheap ones, If the game is good I only join if I want to play it.

I don't mind if people collect games but when someone is entering every single giveaway to add a +1 to their library and they don't ever intend to play it, that kind of bothers me. It's not against the rules or anything, but I just hate when someone can't take a second to be appreciative.

It's a list of people who can't join your giveaways.

For many reasons. A lot of people will blacklist a person who has broken the rules of this website for example.

but shouldn't it be left to the mods to punish rule breakers?

They are punished by the mods, but usually they are just suspended for a while. (I've never seen anyone banned, also I don't know if rule breakers are permanently banned or not).

Konrad was perma banned. Too bad, quality contributor

Suspension for X days -> after making more mess permasuspended. Can't do anything on the site but still can file a support ticket so solve the situation (like having shittons of non activated games, but fixing it). Permabanned means they can't even file a ticket, latest one indeed was Konrad because he kept spamming the support without listening to anything. Unless someone uses alt accounts (instant permasusp) it takes considerable effort to be perma'd, not to mention to be banned :)

When I win a game, I always say thank you, because I know there are lots of people like yourself who appreciate it.

When people win my games, I don't care. The only thanks I need is for the winner to activate the game and mark it received, quickly.

I want my giveaways resolved quickly so that I know that the key or gift activated without issue, that I don't have any notifications at the top, and that I know that things are "done" and I can move on and not concern myself with that giveaway anymore. It's a feeling or sense of completing something that I want, as I don't like things that are unfinished.

unless the rule is forced by the OP.

You can't make special rules.
And is it really considered being entitled if you expect some common courtesy from people? It's like if you hold open a door for someone and they don't say "thanks", that's considered to be quite rude, same with not saying thanks when someone gives you a game.

You can't force people to be polite. It's their choice to be an ass, especially if it's not breaking any rules.

Nowadays you might get attacked for doing something like this. Apparently in a modern society by holding a door for someone you're telling them that they are weak.

If by modern society you mean US where people have no better things to do then argue about what new thing they can be offended, then correct.:) In Europe it's still just a small little thing to make someone's day easier, and a sign that we notice others and don't close doors on their faces.

Read the line just above it. No, you can't force people, but you can expect people to show some common courtesy, and if they don't, it's up to you to decide if you think they're so rude that they don't deserve to win from you again or not.

Nowadays you might get attacked for doing something like this. Apparently in a modern society by holding a door for someone you're telling them that they are weak.

I've never even heard of such an incident. Not even on a really slow news day when the news think it's worth reporting on pets ruining their neighbors flowers.

Not being polite doesn't automatically make you rude. If someone tells you to fuck off and stop giving away bundled games — it's rude. If someone thanks you only after getting the game but not when he gets an opportunity — it's not rude.

This is true, and I never claimed it's not.

If someone tells you to fuck off and stop giving away bundled games — it's rude.

This is very rude. I've encountered people like this.

If someone thanks you only after getting the game but not when he gets an opportunity — it's not rude.

I was talking about when you win something from someone. And I would claim that not saying "thanks" or showing any gratitude when getting a free game from someone else is rude. It's not just the absence of politeness, but it's actually being rude.

If this was the whole point of our conversation, then I have to agree and beg pardon for my inability to read basic English. It is indeed rude to not thank someone who actually gave you something for free.
