The main gameplay is moving from point A to B while killing (Third Person Shooter)
Incorrect - I think you meant first-person.

Unfair generalization. Portal 2 achievement design is among the best I know :P

You haven't played Team Fortress 2 yet. And even Portal 2 has these annoying achievements like:
Calibration Course; «Professor Portal» - After completing co-op, complete Calibration Course online with a friend who hasn’t played before.
They always include those crappy achievements to promote the game or get you to get a friend to play. Should have known back then how evil Valve was.

The problem is your friend can't have played it before, so someone ends up holding the bag. To add insult to injury if you start off playing with your friend neither of you can get the achievement from the other. Each person can only give the achievement to one other player and even then only if that player doesn't have it and meets the requirement of having already completed co-op once, otherwise it's wasted.

As stated by dead0ne: you friend must never have played co-op before. So basically they want you to convince a friend to buy Portal 2 and then they want that friend to convince another friend and so on and so on. Which is a pretty scummy tactic to try and boost sales. It's not just play co-op with a friend.

Wow, I didn't know about this one...
Ok, I guess it's could be right that Valve doesn't have a game where all achievements are well designed, but still I really love how they've done most of the achievements in the game (especially things like Pit Boss) ;)

They have some funny achievements which are inline with the game's humor, but I can't say there are any games I've played that had truly well thought out achievements honestly. Though I get what you're trying to say, some of their achievements are more original than most. Sadly they'll also include pesky achievements where they want the player to promote their game or one time only event achievements to draw in more sales. Valve would sell their own mothers if it would give them 5 cents.

Maybe I should word that differently but that's exactly what I meant :)
Possibly I'm looking too superficially at the achievement lists (as a whole) in Valve games since I haven't played any of them myself. I'll get to these some day, but until then I'll try revise my "top achievement lists in games" ranking to make place for other games I played and I know for sure that their achievement lists don't have any stinkers ;)

Im going to trow into this discussion some other games with unattainable achievements.

I would like to get this achievement as well if you don't mind :P I'm also free holiday (christmass 2014?) player, so one achievement from me as well...
But beware, I haven't played this game for 4 years, I promiss myself to return to it and finish it it 100%, but backlog... well, I will suck in a nutshell.

well, now I need to go sleep, but if you don't get it till tomorrow... I will make some alternative steam profile and we will get it ANY WAY, but I would expect to get paid back with the same :P
I have already tried to played it with randoms hoping to get lucky...

I got it, but I'll still try to help out if you want.
Anyway this is the guy (the author) that helped me get the "GHOST OF CHRISTMAS PRESENT" achievement. Doesn't look like he's doing it anymore now, but his guide should still be useful if you can find someone that has the DLC.

Oh, I thought we already had one of those. Well off to bed then, but at least I took the time to already pre-download the game so I'll be ready if an occasion pops up while I'm not away ^^

Wow, thanks for the heads up! I haven't bothered with L4D2 in Steam but now I might just need to get on it long enough to do that. :p
Bump.

Yeah, I had left the game untouched on Steam because the unobtainable achievements really annoyed me but now I can fix that issue!

I'm interested as well, might be available to play it saturday morning or tsunday.

Are "free weekend players" somehow marked as such? Is there a way to confirm that one of the team members are playing under the free weekend, so you know you have a chance of getting the achievement before actually playing through the whole level?

https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198364956241 I likely can't make wonders, but playing 1-2 hours will work. Weekend is busy.

Seems like the Left 4 Dead 2 free weekend is back again for the "Steam Spring Cleaning" event, which may be an annual event now, making the achievement more accessible. As far as I know it's the only Left 4 Dead 2 free weekend event and so the only time you can get this achievement legitimately. Be aware that it is fairly difficult to find free weekend players.
Original Message from 2018:
This is the first time since 4 year that you can get this achievement, it requires you to finish a campaign with a free weekend player (who has to survive the campaign). Free weekends haven't happened for 4 years, until now with the "Steam Spring Cleaning" event you can finally unlock it in the next 2 days. I highly recommend you get this achievement now if you own the game since it's unlikely you'll get another opportunity soon (if ever). The achievement doesn't unlocks for the free weekend player unless there's another free weekend player in your group.
Completing one of the shorter campaigns takes around 15 to 30 minutes on easy difficulty. "Crash Course" is the quickest campaign to complete, though some might prefer "The Sacrifice". The game is actually kind of fun, though it gets repetitive after a while. The main gameplay is moving from point A to B while killing (First Person Shooter style) endless re-spawning zombies, and sometimes defending a point for a while.
Edit: I got the achievement, but if anyone needs help just let me know. I'm not a free weekend player myself though since I own the game.
