Depends. what do you look for? The main thing in it is the different events that are coming fairly frequently, but also easy and fast to complete. The world is great looking, exploration is fun but not something you can do for a really long time. Since you don't have to pay sub, I say 30 bucks is a really good price. It's a casual mmo, nothing more, doesn't want to be more.

I actually quite lie it even compared to GW1. I mean yeah there isn't yet as much variety as there was in the original but there already getting close. Also you have to remember that the game isn't even a year old yet so theres still plenty of time for improvement and the introduction of new content, skills and characters. And from what i've seen recently with the living story thats definitely the route GW2 is going down.

Well, the only thing you really need to know is that it's an MMO, so if you don't enjoy them then you won't like Guild Wars 2, because they're pretty much all the same.
I only played it during a free weekend thing, but I played enough to get a feel for the game and what it offers (doesn't take long for an MMO..). The game isn't bad and I would say that it is better than most MMO games that are out there, but it still isn't anything new and exciting, no matter how they may have marketed it.
I think MMOs are really only fun if you have friends to play with, so if you don't plan on playing with a friend or two, especially since you aren't a fan of these types of games, then I'd say it isn't worth it for $30.

Well in that sense there is a chance that GW2 can hold your attention. They do have a very good story and I don't mean just your personal story. I find exploring each region, talking to the npcs, and listening in on their quest dialog a very interesting glimpse into the detail of the world and the greater story.
Also with the living story thats been implemented theres new content on almost a monthly basis now, with new stories and quests and characters.
So if this is something that sounds interesting to you i'd say give it a try. You could even just try getting in on one of the free weekends they have every now and again to see if you like the game before you buy it.

You'll reach max level fairly quickly if you play everyday. It's fairly UNgrindy, where you can go to a new region, do the dynamic events, do the renown hearts (quests), do any storyline quests on the way, and be ready for the next region.
I kinda wish the level cap was higher than the region level cap though(ie. a level 90 or 100 cap while the highest regions are level 80)..

Like QuartzPort said, you can reach 80 fairly quick. This is good and bad but if you like to be able to run a lot of the Dungeons, Dragons, etc with ease its worth it. The profession system is pretty nice and easy to get the hang of. With the professions, you have a Bank and Collections tab in there. So you never have to stop by the bank to get your mats, they are already there. Gold in the game is actually worth something. It is kinda easy to save it up but its also hard to not want to spend on things. The Trading Post (Auction House) is global instead of server based. Unlike WoW, the content or expansion packs dont cost anything as they come with the updates. The only down side to the game, is that you cant tell what server is more of - PvE, PvP, or PvX. The server I play on, Gate of Madness, is more PvE than PvP/WvWvW.

After you reach the max level cap it gets boring unfortunately D:

No, not really. In WoW (yeah I come up with that, but only because that's the only other mmo I played, tho I'm sure there are yet more like this case) so in WoW when you reached max level the real game begins..well, if you're into gear farming, raiding, yadda yadda since that's a PvE oriented game. Here you run instances for fun/cash/whatevs because there are no raids, so no reason to get a good gear (well maybe for Fractals, but that's still closer to an instance than a raid).

I actually have 3 characters at lvl 80 now and im still not bored. None of them have finished the actual story yet or even done all the dungeons or jumping puzzles. i haven't even explored the world to completion yet. So theres still a lot of content for me to do even with 3 max lvl characters.
Although I guess if you got a good group together you could quickly run through all this content and be left faily bored so I do see what you mean

Well I've been playing gw2 since launch & found it quite fun. As for the reviews or thoughts on the internet about ANY game, you're bound to be finding all variety of viewpoints but it is an mmo so if you don't like them then you might not care for it but for a good mmo that's free after you buy the main game with monthly updates to the overall world, it's worth the cost of it.

Havent played it since last autumn but it got quite boring quite fast. The journey to max level may be fun but its short lived. PVP is nothing but zerg unless you play in the team based tournaments but that also gets boring fast. Dungeons are a joke since there's no healer class and you are reduced to graveyard running.

I feel that it is one of the worst MMOs around personally, but this does not mean that the game itself is bad. Just not very good as an MMO. It has tons of potential and is an awesome game until you finish the story and hit max level. It would make a good COOP RPG, but lacks what makes an MMO last. It has no true end game and the PvP, while great in concept, was very poorly executed. Like previously posted, the PvP is nothing but a zerg rush.

Is it good? Yes.
Is it worth 30$? Absolutely.
GW2 is much more diverse than games like WoW and Rift. No !'s above people's heads. No "go over there and bring me 20 boar tusks" quests. Great combat system, good graphics, nice community, skill-based PvP, WvW..
The game also has its downsides. The cashshop is on the border between good and bad, and Anet (the developer) seems reluctant to fix it. All they keep adding to it is RNG-chests like you find in other games. No costumes or additional armor skins have been added since release (9 months). They have a weird way of adding updates, often removing the added content after a period of time (sometimes within a month!) because of a "living story". This means the game stays the same size and if you want to do something new you'll have to keep playing.

Yeh thats one of the reasons I was thinking about getting it, I heard the quest system was different I like roaming around like skyrim and just go with the flow instead of constantly searching for quest givers to give me fetch quests or 'kill 100 spiders and get back to me'

As ppl say you can get to lvl80 fast(got my first lvl80 in less than 65hours).There isnt OP items for which you have to grind day and night.Gear in the game is stats and skin..You can craft all stats(but some of them are expensive or able to craft mats only during some events) and so at end you just have to go for skin.Getting gold isnt so hard once you find a way. WvW system is the thing that keeps most of my in-game friends in GW2.Dungeons are challenging so for $30 you gonna get a plenty of playtime. Just check out the server before you get into 1 ^^
P.S. if you want add me on steam in case you want help with something in GW2

My home server is Ring of Fire(eu) but the server itself is active more after 1pm UK time . Underworld, Blacktide, Desolation and Seafarer's Rest are other good active servers but the best one seems to be the French and German servers(mostly because its easier for them to make events for other servers is all about timezone)

I've been playing it almost non-stop since January. It's not very good.
The game, as it is now, has a good world with a fucked up concept of exploration (essentially a checklist of places you have to see, though some are very nice) and events that all look and play the same. There are no quests in the sense that instead of "kill 10 rats" you now have "kill 10 rats OR press F next to a wall 10 times".
PvP is barren with only two modes, one of which gets boring in a week. At least you're up-leveled to 80 in the PvP area, so you can get a feel for how your character will be at high levels.
ArenaNet has a bad habit of pushing temporary content that usually lasts one month (if not less) and is then wiped as a way to keep players from leaving. There's been a trend of new items, such as pets and weapon skins, being exclusive to the gem store which, thanks to in-game economy being all over the place, is soon going to be a cash shop in all but name.
The base game is a decent single player experience that gets boring fast (PvE) with multiplayer elements that could have done better and still require you to be max level (WvW). Just wait for a free weekend if you're really interested, but I really wouldn't recommend this game to anyone.

i were in ur position half year ago....i couldnt decide to buy it or not.If u have friends to play with, then its a best mmorpg I have ever played ( wanna point out letter I).If you are going to play it solo, then its still best mmorpg i have ever played:D!
I usually hate mmorpg, but GW2 is something special, like ur first love who u didnt fuck and now regret( sry for bad language), if u dont buy gw2 ull regret later!

I've been playing since the Beta mid last year. It's the only MMORPG or perhaps RPG in general that I've been able to get into and stick with for a long period of time. Admittedly, it does have its flaws and the lack of content in the content updates can be incredibly underwhelming from month to month, but there's certainly a lot to do in the game aside from that.
Regardless of whether you play on your own, with friends, or in a guild, you can pretty much enjoy all the game's content to the fullest, provided you're willing to give the game a chance and explore all there is to be had.
The 'greedy money system' you're hearing about is the Gem Store. It's essentially you either pay real money or in-game gold to get some cosmetic items or a few other items, although none of it is pay-to-win. It's considered greedy, because ArenaNet seem to release more frequent content for the store than they do for the game itself. [To be explored, played, etc.]
I never played the original Guild Wars, so I can't really give you a comparison of the two, unfortunately.
Ultimately, for $30 it's very much worth you're money. It's probably not what you would expect from an MMO, but in a good way.

Endgame becomes horizontal progression, not vertical. It's fairly easy to acquire highest tier of gear (highest stats), and then it's more about dressing up your char lol. If you don't like the skins there might not be incentive to play further. Even legendary weapons aren't better in terms of stats, but are wanted for their flashy effects. For me it's the right game for a casual player. No worries about your gear becoming obsolete anytime soon. I don't have the flexibility anymore to employ hardcore raiding schedules (like my ol' WoW days). Just log in whenever and do guild missions, chill/chat with people, run dungeons with them or PvP, check out new content, and back out again.
This horizontal progression actually makes it hard to be pay-to-win.
Definitely worth $30 imo, 'cause they continue to release content :D

Well, don't like the game, i think its really great, maybe the best game graphical speaking with great world effects but... you reach to the top to quickly, and the pvp and pve just sucks, i give an example of wow, or even TERA, you have to team up with a good combo (tanks, dps, etc) as on guild wars, that doesn't man nothing, you just go there and kill mobs before they kill you... It disappoints me in that way and don't even worth 30$, TERA is free to play and i really enjoy it more...

I got bored after 50 hours. You shouldn't really buy it, there aren't much people playing it anymore.

I'm asking here since its on sale now on GMG.
[edit: It seems like the coupon doesn't work on this title so the price is $38]
Been looking for reviews and the results are quite confusing. Both on forums and youtube video reviews.
Some people say it sucks and only got successfull in the beginning because of aggressive marketing,
also something about switching development companies which makes it suck even more?
And now its completely broken and something about greedy money system?
I'm not sure.
On the other hand there's people saying its the best thing that ever happened to MMO in the history of gaming and that its revolutionary.
I really can't decide if I'm willing to spend $38 on this.
Anyone here plays this game? Is it worth it? Or a total waste of time?
Note: I'm not a big fans of MMOs like WoW and Rift since I find them a bit boring, is GW2 any different?
Edit: Thanks for your replies guys it really helps :)
