Pony & Boy

Level 3

treat the "fads (i.e. reactions)" poll option as the "potato" option ahardyhar-har

hmm... guess i didn't do a good job in covering the spread in th'other poll options; if you vote "other" perhaps state what exactly?
pls pardon me, doubt i'll be able to help commenting on your comment, but could always just ignore, would be np :)

Oney and David
be especially careful of David's - Salad Fingers is not for the faint of heart or those who value sanity
yes, such things are never appropriate for any time, for any one, any where...

i just watched Charlie episodes 1-4; it isn't as terrible as i remember, but still can't say i'm a huge fan. main problem now is just the voices - almost good apes of H. Jon Benjamin and Cupid Cartman but just bad enough to be distracting

Hmm... gotta admit, not sure what I just watched there. Some interesting ideas in there, but the voices seemed a bit off and the visuals were frankly not really my kind of thing. The story was completely bonkers, the tone and narration a disjointed mess, but I guess that's somewhat the point. The music was pretty good, though :) And I say this as someone who likes David Firth in general.

Actually, I remember watching his stuff back when he hosted them as flash videos on www.fat-pie.com, before Youtube was a thing. Not really a fan of the gorier stuff in his catalogue and I like Salad Fingers as much as the next guy, but my favourites of his are actually his lesser known stuff: For example the warm surreal absurdity of Sock 2: Ptikobj, somewhat more sinister The Men From Up the Stairs, or even the chilling Kafkaesque/Lynchian horror of Spoilsbury Toastboy.

It's a shame I can't find one of the other ones that I really liked, a clip with a scene of a lonely deserted bar on some strange planet and somebody who was looking for a bowl of peanuts or something. Don't recall the title, it was so long ago...

EDIT: Hah, found it!. (Also, while I'm at it, the whole Burnt Faceman series is just... not good.)

the visuals reminded me of Oney (those faces tho) but just the wtf-ery reminded me of David - absolutely no idea what to think of it:
a rock came from space and messed up the horse's face and then there's a rock face mumbling some stuff i couldn't discern and then the boy met his fate because horse was apparently possessed by some eldritch thing from that rock - who knows xD

i don't think i ever did check out th'official fat-pie site, but Newgrounds man - i agree with Blordow absolutely - warning on that link: depressing ranting.

Music Mouth, Not Stanley and the Health Reminders are among my favorites from David - afaik / iirc (at least of his animations), i don't think i disliked any of them except for Jerry Jackson and Burnt Face Man

there was one, though, that was like of a child in a room and he was being given orders through a loudspeaker and there were also cockroaches beetles...? i think it might have been one of the Socks but not sure - ah, nope, upon skimming through, i think it was Spoilsbury. good chit, needa actually watch 'em all again

EDIT: watched Spoilsbury... i forgot about the sex... and to be sure, i only linked Salad Fingers because (besides perhaps the Flying Lotus music video) that's probably his most well-known thing

Heh, I actually stumbled upon a comment that explained the "plot" of Pony & Boy pretty well.

I forgot about the Health Reminders, yeah. They were a bit too random for me, even for his usual standards, haha. And for sure Salad Fingers is his best known work. I actually like some of Flying Lotus' music, never watched the vids though. Looks a bit strong though, so will watch when I'm in the proper mood xD

noice summary; so i did glean the gist of the plot (basically) hehe

i actually first saw a bit of one of the Health Reminders in some animation compilation - perhaps one of those Midnight Mashup things on FXX or maybe even [adult swim] or something - it was this segment; i mean, i prefer gibberish from David because at least then you might could laugh at it - such things as Spoilsbury only serve to distress the viewer... just like that music video, aye - it's so bad, he refused to publish it on his own channel for fear of it being blocked O.o

Yeah, I also prefer the gibberish actually, which is why I enjoyed Sock 2 and that Blobs (Duke's Orders) vid so much. As for Spoilsbury, well, I forgot about the sex as well, and it's certainly disturbing stuff, but I also find it kind of chilling and eerily poignant. Sort of like how a Franz Kafka novel or a David Lynch film can get under your skin (although not quite as accomplished as those, I realise). Hard to explain I guess, and different strokes and all that... Speaking of which, the FL music vid, well, that was a bit too much for my tastes. Didn't really care for that one at all.

i don't really like the content of the music video imo, those who say they do are... hmm... but i like the artstyle and whatnot - reminds me of Sock 5... and it is striking enough to be worth at least one watch; evocative of paintings such as those by Hieronymus Bosch

disappointing but i don't think i've ever read anything from Kafka or seen anything from Lynch (except for his PS2 commercial lawl)... dunno how but yeh.

Oh yeah, the vid's style itself is definitely interesting. Good call on Hieronymus Bosch as well. Although the content itself puts too much emphasis on spilling blood and guts for my liking, and not enough... I dunno, something else, ha. Not being a fan of body horror in general probably doesn't help.

I didn't know that Lynch made a PS2 commercial. This is going to sound ridiculous, but that one was a bit too much Lynch for its own good--I mean, if I had seen that without knowing it was actually by him, I would have probably thought it was a parody or spoof of his work by someone else, heh.

turned the explicit shock factor to 11 just to do it - any subtext there might have been lost in the gore
xD that's forever my impression of Lynch now :/ - the guy what did Eraserhead (which i've not seen and know nothing of besides big hair) and brought to us The Third Place - that and for some reason i always try to associate Lynch with Jacob's Ladder (which i've not seen either, but i know is weird)

Yeah, I remember the Child That Smelt Funny and Pulch, but didn't see Drillbithead until now. I'm not actually up to date on Firth's latest stuff (meaning like, his stuff from the last 4-5 years or so?), but I better check them all out. I really liked the Drillbithead one you linked, some excellent quality gibberish right there!

I really like both Firth and Oney so this was an interesting animation. Not sure exactly what the ending meant, lol. But then again it took me literally years to figure out what Firth's 'Men From Upstairs' meant.

"almonds to be specific" - "that hurts" oh my
"you'll not get through me"
and then the ultimate death with distended belly

wowzers, just blew my mind - thanks so much!

I actually liked this clip better when I didn't know what it was about. I mean, sure it was quite the aha moment when the pieces all fell in place but with it, the mystery and the strangely effecting undercurrent of menace were lost.

i always have mixed feelings i both like and dislike it,
i guess because im still just waking up, i rather just keep listening to my music than listen to those kind of voices being made, but i also found some sequences stupidly funny like the whole horse cleaning and then the unexpected "mouth wash"

but i know for sure i dislike the youtube poop stuff. i dont like that at all.

it's like rubbernecking - painful to look at and you know you shouldn't look at... but... something strangely compelling...
i apologize - i have now ruined two of my friends' mornings (Shanti bein' th'other) :<

absolutely i understand dislike for such poopery - it is basically the kinda chit that Tim & Eric do; i hate their show(s)(except for Tom Goes To The Mayor, somehow, someway :/) but a couple days ago, i dunno, just stumbled onto a random poop and i couldn't breathe for several minutes.
i will prod only once: maybe check the DaThings1 video in the gib's description - it is only random and silly, there is hardly any of the aspects present that one would normally associate with poops (i.e. ear rape, seizure-inducing imagery, etc.)

yes thats a way of putting it, its strangely amusing, and you didnt ruin my morning hah

i tried the paper portion of the DaThings1 video, i liked some of the jokes they did with the play on the words but still not my cup-o-water (because i dont drink tea hah)

but it does want me to watch the original videos, i like watching how things are made sometimes

noooooOOOOOOO!!! damnit! what a terrible ending!
what an awesome animation though - that's what we call feckin' skill m8 - reminded me very much of White Night.
i don't understand though: what the eff was he doing wandering the snow(y wasteland) in the first place? that there were children playing outside kind of ruins the entire foundation of it...

Heh, yeah. I actually bought White Night some time ago. Should really just actually play it.

About your other point: Maybe he was just a homeless guy or a criminal on the run, or just a random dude who was caught in the storm and needed a place to crash. Whatever the case, It looked like the storm had calmed by the end of it, so it was safe to go outside again.
