A link to my steamgifts page was sitting on my profile for the longest time prettily as in

Steamgifts/trades profile

then today I realised it shows

{LINK REMOVED} [www.steamgifts.com]

I do know Steam does/did this for a whole lot of links to prevent spams, hijacking and stuff but why steamgifts?

Meh, won't work for other links. People already mentioned they can't do giveaway links.

Another workaround is using ASCII Hex codes.

Sometimes Valve goes crazy and blocks stuff that doesn't need to be.

I wish this stupid annoying linkfilter could be disabled in settings. Maybe we should make a petition to valve and ask for it?

Only if they put up a disclaimer there that by that you give up any right to complain if you click a malicious link and get infected.

Yeah, this is what I was thinking about too. :)
I'm just afraid that a lot of people would still click on anything (sadly they do) and still blame Valve/Steam for it. The basic IT security knowledge of the everyday user is frighteningly non-existent. (Not low, it's not even there.)

I'm agree with you, but I don't see why people that possess IT security knowledge should suffer because of that. An option to turn this off would solve this dilemma.
