From what I remember it's not nearly as bad as other truly bad games.

It's more of an eccentric's half-finished idea than a truly incompetent venture or something that is clearly just a bunch of stock assets nonsensically held together with the gaming equivalent of duct scotch tape.

Like everything I've seen from Digital Homicide is utter garbage. This does not nearly sink to that level of incompetence.

Now you can permanently delete any game in your library with 2-3 clicks. You can add it/buy it later. Also, if you remove a region restricted game and then add ROW version, the game will be ROW afterwards.

Yeah like in most multiplayer games, if you play by yourself you can get good teammates or really bad ones. About the skins yeah i know a lot of people get kind of addicted to buying skins, but thats not the games problem its the people that buy them, they should know better than waste all of their money on skins.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

1 and 2 are fantastic, I absolutely loved them. 3 suffered from running out of money and being too ambitious. The controls are frustrating, the 3D world, while pretty as always, causes a lot of headaches. They severely limited your abilities and there are no items, making the game feel really stagnant, and more of a platformer then a puzzle game. It is also very short, with no real ending since it seems there should have been a Trine 3 part 2 or something.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The trick is to think of 1 and 2 as a game, and Complete as a remake of 1 and 2 with a different rule set and expanded content.
Don't think of it as "I can't transfer my characters from 1 and 2 to complete", think of it as "Okay, do I want to play Van Helsing Original, or Van Helsing Enhanced Edition".
( To be clear, the Complete Edition uses the VH3 classes for its entire game (including stages from 1 and 2), so it really is a fairly different game. In that sense, you could closely compare it to the Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale Enhanced Editions, which swapped their original class systems for the deeper Baldur's Gate 2 system. )

The third one was just a hot mess that the devs rushed out knowing they could fix any problems with the complete edition later on, and not caring that the game itself wasn't ready for release on its own.
Luckily, the devs sensibly give you the complete edition for free if you own all three games, so it doesn't come across as a scummy move on their part..

That said, from what I know of it, the third game really shouldn't be considered as anything but an access pass to the Complete Edition- even people wanting only to play the new content would likely be better off trying to make their way through the complete edition to it, given that VH3 seems to have a lot of unresolved issues that were left to be fixed in the Complete Edition.

I'd add my own two cents, but I'm afraid they'd get it and think themselves successful. The guys behind the 'studio' (and I use that term loosely) are total asses. I had never heard of this game reviewer that they're apparently suing, but they're claiming he's the reason they're getting such negativity, not because they create terrible games.

I own four of their games for cards alone; I have all four hidden from my Steam Library. I regret even giving them that, after seeing how they react.

I have nothing good to say about the game itself [other than the delightful cosmetics system], and their management of core content versus DLCs (and DLCs in general) was just insult to injury.

Payday 2 was always overrated. I think it's a terribly contrived game. They don't allow certain obvious mechanics like being able to close doors (lol) or drag bodies (you need bodybags, why?). I guess because they can't program the AI to open doors or search more efficiently so it would break the game.

Gameplay was good until you decide to max the fps into 60 which is a little bit difficult.
And also EA makes it hard to activate the game if you play more than one computer, or your computer got problem that need to reinstalling OS, you need to activate it again. Mostly will become failed while activation more than one.

Hi not the guy you asked, but as a person who was really looking forward to it and got a copy WAY before it got bundled (Maybe it's better now who knows) I didn't like it since it felt like a clone game (from L4D) with clunkier controls, weapons that felt they had no impact, enemies that were endless with an object that wasn't always made clear and nigh on impossible to clear on your own. I get it's supposed to be a Co-Op game, but if I can't have fun with a game all by myself I don't consider it a good game. Besides at least L4D gave you A.I teammates. . . even if they were a bit on the slow side it was still better than nothing.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I agree about the objectives feeling unclear a lot (unless you've played a map a few times or have someone who does), as for weapon damage, you basically have to aim for the head, and it is quite possible to solo a map if you know it.

Me and my brother have put quite a few hours into the game (he's put around 100, I've got around 20-30), and I've never once felt the controls were clunky. Slow, yes, but that's intended.

The game definitely isn't for everyone, kinda like Arma isn't for everyone.

even if they were a bit on the slow side it was still better than nothing.

:sigh: Dammit, Ellis..

WAY before it got bundled

Having seen the reviews around the time you indicate you played, as well as the ones post-bundling, the game seems to have notably improved between the two time spans. Can't say if that means it's worth your time or not (especially with server population likely dwindling again), but I thought it deserved noting. :)

It's also worth noting that rather than a L4D clone, it seems to have been designed more as a multiplayer Resident Evil, and the clunky controls are more an unfortunate element of that legacy.

If you try to play it as L4D, it's going to come across poorly, simply 'cause it wasn't designed to directly compare with L4D.
Well, having not actually played it myself (though, thanks for the reminder- installing it now ^.^), that's just what I've heard. :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I only played alone and there was only 1 map that i remeber playing that had some unlimmited zombies. And even then i'm not sure i was rather low on ammo and ran for the exit.

I actually liked the game but it does have a few bugs and the random loot can either give you nothing or more than you would ever need it seems.

Permalink

But yeah it's just buggy at times, a bit random, feels clunky and definitely missing something imo...making it more of a frustrating experience than a fun one. :/
