Just an off-topic thread about a subject I am pretty curious about.

I will start first. Living in Singapore, widely known as the country that bans chewing gums, canes SOBs for vandalism and hangs people for drug-related offences, censorship and banning of games are surprisingly rare.

Banned/censored games

Mass Effect - homosexuality [Ban lifted]

The Darkness - excessive violence [Ban lifted for Playstation only]

And that's it?

Some games like all GTA games cannot be bought online. All games including the ones only for 18+ can be bought in a game store, provided you show your ID.

So what are the games censored or banned in your country? Leave your comments below.

Is it true that in the Aussie version of Call of Duty: Ghosts you have to peacefully negotiate with enemy soldiers, via a series of multiple choice dialogue options, in order to disarm them?

Airport mission from Modern Warfare 2 was cut from the game in my country (Russia). Not by any law or government establishment, though - Activision felt it can be offensive. Most of the players still unlocked the mission via a fan patch.

Here in Brazil some banned games are: Bully, Postal and a few years ago Counter-Strike 1.6 was banned because of the map "cs_rio" but now it is allowed. I guess EverQuest is banned too.

In Thailand, the Grand Theft Auto series due to one kid stabbing a taxi driver for money to play the game. (As it is not generally deemed a wealthy country, there are many internet/game shops where you can go to play by the minute, since most cannot afford a console/pc/internet.)

Worst we got was Manhunt being rated R instead of M at one point, I've only heard about this though, never actually seen an R copy (if there's any real difference between it and a normal one aside from a sticker) which I think made it a bit touchy to sell to minors.

I imagine The Guy Game might have gotten flak too for having a minor but canada just didn't seem to care about the crappy game.

Railroad Tycoon series - exposing our shamefully inadequate public transport system. [Ban remains in place]

[Thanks to the intrepid smugglers who bravely ran the gauntlet and smuggled Steam copies of these games to me. You know who you are. I remain grateful, and you undoubtedly remain high up on this island nation's "most wanted" list.]

By judge decision. http://goo.gl/dy6CkD

"Bully was banned in Brazil.[31] In April 2008, Brazilian justice prohibited the commerce, import and availability of the game in Brazilian houses.[32] The decision was taken by judge Flávio Mendes Rabelo from the state of Rio Grande do Sul based on psychological findings by the state psychology society which claims that the game would be potentially harmful to teenagers and adults. Anyone caught selling or even owning the game would face a daily fine of R$1,000.00.[33]"

Yes, in paper. In reality, stores continued to sell videogames. I learned about the ban just two years ago, meaning that i hadn't even noticed a ban was in effect.

Germany - too many games:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_banned_video_games#Germany

It's for sure not the full list !

That doesn't include the censored versions - for example Saints Row: The Third

And Dead Island isn't in the list too...

Well it are quite many games :D

Often there are "low-violence" - versions on Steam that have less blood / less features (eg. South Park - The Stick of Truth - without Nazi-symbols )
