I made an userscript for this: https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/TDyzv/

If a comment gets a lot of replies, you can no longer make sense of which comment was a reply to which comment because they all appear in a single straight line, making the reading a bit confusing. Would it be possible to implement a better way to show these comment chains? Maybe include the permalink of the comment replied to in the reply?

Yes. I mean no. I mean yes. What was the question?

Yeah, a simple light-grey @revilheart #permalink :)

I think revil means something more like this.

either way, regardless how it's done.. +1 to anything to show the chain better.

Maybe the "@revilheart" part could already be the link to the permalink.

For me it would be clearer if we'd have an information whom I've replied to, noy only permalink. You just look and see.

that does help though, i didn't even think to use that to find what is associated to what in a chain.. but in order to read a very large chain like that and know the proper reply order you'd have to read it backwards.

Wow, I had never seen that before. It does make it a lot easier to see who replied to who (or whom?).

How about highliting whole your conversation (your comments and replies to them) in light gray after clicking on your comment?

wait you mean basically make all comments clickable and they in turn highlight the direct replies to it? that's probably asking a bit much for implementing, though does sound cool.

anything at all to make it easier though, that certainly qualifies still too in my book ^^

I made the suggestion like, ages ago. It was ignored, as every single suggestions I ever posted. ;_;

Oh sorry, I tried to search for it, but I used the wrong keywords. Well, as every single suggestion anyone has ever posted. Has cg ever implemented one of these?

No idea, not that I know of. Sometimes I'm a bit curious about what was the point of the Bugs/Suggestions category since I don't think it's being taken into consideration very often when implementing new features to the website. :P

Yes, they did. When "Recommended feature" was implemented, it's meant to be only for games from the top 100 community wishlist. After I mentioned what about the giveaways we entered many times, it's implemented in that too right after. Maybe it was easy to do.

I don't know, I've asked many times for IndieGala gift links to be allowed and I'm sure that's a very easy thing to do. If not, he should at least reply to these threads saying "won't happen because of this and that" or "will think about it". It's like our suggestions threads are useless.

Maybe it was implemented because if it wasn't, people would miss those giveaways so earlier was better.

Don't know, just trying to guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Better: add NNTP access. 20 years of www forums development and good old slrn client still beats it by a wide margin

+1 I love it when old-schoolers pop up.

a simple "(...) replied to (...)" will probably solve the problem.
or maybe do like chan does placing the permalink (code) next to the nickname on every single comment.

It could be like Amazon comments. You can hover your cursor onto a certain link and the replied comment could pop up.

Good idea. But honestly...the current forum system needs an overhaul on more spots than just this.
The thing is this requires either coding time: to make it yourself from scratch, and I'm thinking cg is busy.
Or: adopt a premade solution but then you still need to implement it which needs some time + you're gonna have whatever downsides the chosen standard software has. Then again, plenty of choices nowadays.

That being said: I'd love to see an overhaul.

It's exactly like Reddit, tbh and it works for me. SG has this nifty collapse button next to user names, just keep collapsing the replies and you'll understand whom a reply is being made to, it's not as hard as it sounds!
