Hmm.... Tough one. You activate it, but you can tell the person the won gift must be activated. The person might provide you with a second copy or buy a second copy him/herself. If he/she activates it him/herself, you mark it as not received.

I don't think there are any rules around this. Generally people seem to think it best for the winner to activate it so that the original gifter gets their gift to someone decent in the end. I've seen original gifters actually wait til the regifter's winner activates and marks as received to report them. Never heard of the winner's side of it though... so up to you I guess..

Support tend to work in the same way at least with the big dev giveaways and typically wait till the giveaways are over before tking action. Or at least thats the opinion that several support members have posted in the past.

Hmm, that's a pretty good question.
First of all, you should definitely report them, since they apparently have broken a rule. After that, I'm not sure but I assume you may activate the game, since what happens to the game is not that important at this point. You can't really give it back to the original giveaway creator since they have no proof it hasn't been activated yet and thus cannot request a reroll.

However, if it's a Steam gift rather than a key, you should probably proceed otherwise.

Two days ago I was on the other end of such situation. And the person recieving the regift was surely disappointed. It was a HB link, someone won it from me and instantly made a giveaway with the same game without activating what he won from me. I promplty gave the HB link to a friend that was online. He activated the game, and regifter's winner got a used link.

Aren't you in danger of receiving a "Not received" from this guy now?

Well too bad. I'm prepared for the consequences.

You're ok with whatever happens to you, and the regifter deserves whatever happens to him - fair enough - but if anyone else is thinking of doing this, consider that there's an innocent winner of the regift who's going to be disappointed not to get anything.

There are no innocents on the Internet.

AS the winner regifted support should be able to set it as received anyway. Not sure how they'd go in this particular situation though.

+1. I took one "not sent" because I refused to send a game to a group leecher. It is a badge I wear proudly.

I'd do the same. It's more important to stand against cheaters and/or leechers than get fake Internet points in my opinion.

Activate but don't report him. Dick move if you are taking what he's giving. Let someone else report.

So, you take what you were promised and that carries with it an obligation to "look the other way?" No, that is the path of corruption.

If someone chooses to give ou a gift, and you accept it, and then the person tries to imply that you "owe them," they are being manipulative and underhanded. There is o obligation with a gift, only with bribes, and bribes are wrong.

I'm still going to refer to any gifts for you and other support members as bribes, its more fun.

Sometimes the bribee does not like to be reminded that he is being bribed. Doing this is counter-productive. I know what I'm talking about. (Those damn Steamgifts Support members!)

I think if someone's going to take the moral high ground, they should do one of the two:

  • Reject the gift and report the creator.
  • Tell the creator, giving him a chance to activate it himself and request that the mods delete the giveaway.

Taking the gift and then reporting is self-serving and hypocritical -- in other words, a "dick move".
