If there's no way to trace back who the gifter is just from the game title since it's a game that's not been given away very often then I will, it was changed to anonymous winners to stop scammers after all I don't want to completely circumnavigate that..

But is there any way to see a list of every giveaway ever made for certain games if you know which game to look for? Because this one has probably only been given away a single digit number of times and if you narrowed that down to recent giveaways by Russians you'd likely only have one giveaway on the list and that's what I'd like to avoid if possible.

You can only get banned for buying games using foreign proxies etc. Gifts are legit.

As far as i know gitfs are always legit.
Of course if you buy a game with a proxy and 5 minutes later you start playing from another country... they are not supid.
But if it's clearly another account there is no problem.
Keys are another thing entirely, a key you don't know where it comes from could get you banned.
Some time ago they even stated that if a guy gifts you a game bought with a stolen cc, he will be the one to be punished, not you.

Yeah, I've done that now and he quickly removed me from friends when I told him I had done (after leaving a bunch of comments on my profile), but hey it doesn't hurt to try and see if he'd be willing to honour the giveaway even so.

Hey there all. I just logged in and found out that I've won a giveaway which I haven't accepted just yet.
Here's the thing: the guy who is doing the giveaway I've won is very clearly Russian and I know that steam prices in Russia are cheaper but also I've heard that Gabe Newall & Co take great offense to games being purchased there and being gifted to non-Russian accounts.
I've not spoken to the guy who made the giveaway yet but should I be worried? Are there any things I should make sure of first or check or do or whatever before I go accepting the gift?
Any advice would be appreciated.
