I have put over 15 hours in this puzzle. I googled but can't find the method. I'm not good enough. 😞

This puzzle is too hard for me, but thanks for the interesting challenge.

I put the yellow line horizontally, tried to follow the outer pattern numerically (follow the rainbow as you said) and use the middle letter of each word. I used the solaire image and the same font size to try and select the right letter too.

Stg, I'm gonna be laughing at myself when I finally figure out what it is and its likely gonna be from after you share the solution.

Bump, solved, took forever, but the train was totally worth it!

Clever, original puzzle! (Not sure it could really be solved by many people without hints, but then the hints were pretty clever too!)

Most of these aren't really my thing, but I know they're what a lot of people are interested in playing, and damn if it wasn't fun. Also, I can thank a minor Monty Python for reminding me of what I should look for.

SOLUTION

• The first thing to do was to orient the cables correctly. For that, the borders were the way to get them in the right orientation.

  Each wire's down direction is the border segment color it corresponds to.

  We should have something like the first image

• Once we had the wires, each one of them was a letter in semaphore encoding (see second image)
• The only thing left to do was to order the letters. Taking the "wires" in rainbow order (ROYGBIV), you get a seven-letter word: PORTION

The Solaire hint was trying to help find the semaphore encoding (person doing angles with his arms)
