Make CV based on community wishlist somehow.

Bonus CV for giving away something that was near the top of the community wishlist?

Yes something like that.

That actually wouldn't be such a bad idea. Would also kinda compensate for later price reductions on Steam.

  • Would remove blacklist/whitelist and implement blocking people from seeing their comments (and vice versa).
  • Made some improvmenet with CV, especially with disappearing CV. With a database of why CV changed. Which games changed values etc.
  • Also made that once You get past certain point, You can't revert. I mean, If CV changed to less, You still had the same CV, but, You will need to earn the points to get past it anyway. So if You got 6.10 and it reverted You to 5.80, You are listed and treated as 6.10, but You have to gain CV from 5.8.
  • Oh, and also implement autoban for people giving away free games. With the warning that it will happen. And made it to the rules. Giving away given away games should be forbidden.
  • Would implement also... Automatic information for bundles. I think there is RSS channel for bundles of some sites. If not, I would make someone in charge of writing those bundles in a special menu at the top. Deals would be the same as Giveaways/Trades/Discussions etc.And every site would have different theme (background or title color, or icon, whatever)
  • Implement many features that ESGST & ESG has. Especially tags for wishlisted games, trading card games and more. Enter button. And option to enable autohide entered giveaway with leaving the space with the button to unhide it (instead of just removing the whole element)
  • Would also implement hover on the CV progress bar that will say how many CV You need to get past the next level
  • Also made badges what kind of games certain user has given away (free/bundled/full CV)
  • And make something for people that don't give away much to not be disregarded as being worse cause they don't spend thousand of dollars to give the games to other people and not winning anything valuable or winning - a.k.a. make people that want to just GET the games (as this is the site for it) being as valuable as those give the games; Giving away games for 5000$ doesn't make anyone better or more valuable in any way. And these people are sometimes even super toxic about how they are so cool cause they have given so much, because they are super rich, so they don't care
  • And much much more probably

Oh, and also implement autoban for people giving away free games. With the warning that it will happen. And made it to the rules. Giving away given away games should be forbidden.

But what about the game that was given away for free by steam over a weekend two years before I joined steam? Do I not get a chance at winning said game? What if the giveaway was for a country other than mine?
If you mean, "warning people who are giving away currently free games" or "requiring people giving away currently free games to mark them as such in their giveaway description along with a link to the currently-running giveaway", then yes, I could agree.

I meant the latter, that currently free games should be excluded. Games that are given away at current time somewhere else. People try to say they are just so humble, they let others get the game. If they were, they would just tell them about the game being given away, instead of making a very small chance of getting said game. Also it took away the called game from someone else, who would get it from original site doing a giveaway, to just use it on SteamGifts. If there is like 10k keys and they are quickly disappearing cause people are using them here, someone who could have get the key, won't get it, cause it's already out of stock.

Ok, thank you for clarifying that! I totally agree with what you said, and apologize if I came across as harsh, upset, or otherwise unpleasant earlier, and I especially apologize if I was insulting. I was rushing to get the previous comment out before doing something and didn't take the time to re-read it before posting.

Give losers a pop up notification to ease their anxiety over probabilities. Instead of space cat it would be a depressed dog in a party hat accompanied by the wah wah sound.

In cases where someone got the lose notification but then later won due to a reroll they'd get an image of a random guy shrugging in place of space cat.

I would make an auto check on every winners profile to see if they have unactivated wins.
Unactivated wins? Auto reroll, short ban with explanation why. Second time, perma ban!

100% with you. still, no permabans. that should remain the really last option, imo.

I was in favor of that, till I started to be a mod xD

Something as simple as recent Steam is learning about this game change would set whole site on fire. Thousands would be marketd as rule breakers, proper winners would get re-rolled etc.

Hmmm it's never as easy as it looks. But he, they can put people on the moon, do brain surgery with robots! There must be a way to automatically detect rule breakers on an internet site I think.

There could be some automatic mechanism to show "potential rule breakers" which need review. But it would be not much different from sending user report with link to SGtools. Plus it should always have some form of human intervention. I was mod in disqus comment section, and automatic disqus filters are terrible. Blocking perfectly fine messages, while allowing swears, crafty way to circumvent "no links" etc.

Like someone is suspended, as they deleted games from account. They write unsuspend ticket, restore games, get unsuspended, remove games as "haha, caught me once, won't find me again". They are found out by automatic script.

How it would handle situation like this?

Ok I'll take your word for it as there will always be "legit rule breaking" for example a few wins in a very short oeriod of time before account is synced or something. But as this is such a simple black/white thing it must be possible. Don't ask me how as my computer knowledge is limited to turning it on and off. But people seem to have scripts for almost anything. Maybe we should ask archibot lol, he'll know.

Add a couple of options to the forum so that we can view it in a linear format instead of threaded....because threaded gets confuzzling to my poor brain.

But that doesn't really happen? Take Discourse's solution that has expanding quotes of the person being replied to. The way it is currently is very easy to miss new information or content because it's not at the end.

Silent overlord

that perfectly nailed my mental image of cg.
saw him, few weeks ago, tho.
a thread where a SG member asked for some help, iirc for a tiny browser problem. the member quickly closed that thread, after 3 minutes or so, cause cg quickly replied offering support.

Oh God, I was mod on a Risk (the game) site for a couple of years. One day, one of the admins decided that since everyone was constantly making "the dice are rigged threads" he was going to filter the word "dice" to "cookie."

That was all well and good until one of my fellow moderators who ran a clan called "Fire and Dice" came online. His clan name was changed to "Fire and Cookie." Oh God, it was hysterical. He didn't see it as a joke, but the rest of us were dying. He ripped the poor admin a new one. hahahah! I even made him a set of banners and avatars to go with his new name (just to rub it in a little.) I still tease him about that whenever the opportunity comes up. XD

i would do 3 things

  1. no/reduced contributor levels earned for group/whitelist giveaways as your not really contributing to the hole community.
  2. make a search filter system so we dont have to do search parameters - https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaways/search?level_min=5.
  3. find a way to stop bots
