I am not a fan of Scary movies, not that I get scared, no interest, scary video games on the other hand >:D , but I heard could things about Insidous.

I don't consider this a SCARY movie, per se, but it is still just about required viewing for the horror film aficionado.

I've seen that, not bad at all (and I like Sam Niel's acting, he was brilliant in At the Mouth of Madness).

Was going to suggest this, great movie even if the ending is slightly weaker than the first half.

Bump! Hm... I like the first Resident Evil movie xD. Sorry, not a fan of horror movies!

Seen them. Shining (the original one) is an unmissable classic.

Of course, great sci-fi horror, best I've seen so far in that niche.

I've seen the original Evil Dead trilogy, hah that was brilliant! Not a big fan of Nightmare on Elm Street, but who knows, maybe I'll like the new ones.

Can't enter giveaway cause blacklisted. Boo :P
As for movies, I'm not a huge fan of horror. I can enjoy a scary game or a book, but in the films it doesn't quite work for me for some reason. I do recommend Cabin In The Woods though, cause Joss Whedon is a boss.

I clicked just so I could suggest this! I like that it does NOT have jump scares, I am still on the fence about it because we didn't get any explanation about "it" though. :)

Do we really need an explanation? I think one of the most common mistakes of today's filmmaking is explaining EVERYTHING to the viewer. The director himself said that he intended the film to be similar to a "dream", meaning there aren't necessary "rules" or explanations to what, when and how happens. Only the core idea is constant.
Only suggesting things and leaving the rest up to the imagination of the viewer is one of the most powerful tools in horror.

Well, it was a supernatural STD essentially, I just wonder where the chain started, ho wit came to be, what would happen if it did reach the "beginning" again.. and why nobody thought of giving it to a very active prostitute.

I remember that scene but he was not shown explicitly going with one, I was under the impression that he got cold feet/thought it over and didn't go through/etc (because he didn't want it to spread any more perhaps? he was a "nice" character).

But you see, without explicit showing, both our theories about it are right. :p It is kind of like Schrodinger's cat, both of them exist at the same time, we could only discover which one was true if the director showed us - but that never happened.

Well I'm really glad you liked it :) I'm a huge fan of horror movies, especially this type which puts mood before shock value. I'm always looking for such hidden gems. Another one which is pure mood is Pontypool. Again the core idea might seem silly and it plays out in a single location and leaves a LOT up to the imagination. It's kind of a you hate it or love it movie though. Give it a go, you might like it.

Thanks, I've watched Silent Hill a couple years ago. I found it disturbing and very true to the game's atmosphere. Nice one.

Excuse me, how to enter using that code? I see the same thing in other discussions, but I don't know how it works

I don't know what type of fear like.
Normal horror: Ghost Ship (2002), Silent Hill, Hellraiser, Night of the Living Dead.
Something that I think is a horror: Ghosts of Mars, I Spit on Your Grave, Braindead.
Something very unusual, if you like movies where a human is sadistic beast: Salo by Pier Paolo Pasolini.

It isn't nearly as terrifying vision as you think, especially since it is unlikely to affect Europe in the near future. Part of the reviews of this film even said that it shows the vision of the current condition of USA, and especially Detroit. ;)
This is still not a horror movie, but something bordering on a post apocalyptic movies.

Re-cycle is very nice. It's like a horror adventure. It's not scary, just eerily creepy. Ending is very WTF.
I can recommend Del Toros's "Mama" with the king slayer Nokilaj Coster Waldau. Very creepy, but the ending is a little meh. Mama is based on a short proof of concept movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRqS6pBC42w The feature film is in english

I'm not too big into horror movies but I can tell you a few movies that scared me when I was forced to watch them lol ~
The Ring movies
Rose Red
The Fourth KInd ( Don't know if that counts as horror, but it scared the crap out of me ><
The Grudge ( I swear this movie gets scarier the more times you see it

First [Rec], then second one, third part is weakest, but I still kinda enjoeyd it and then finally fourth part.
I'm talking about spanish movie, not that sad american remake.
Also, if you like found footage and scifi - 'Apollo 18' and 'Area 51' Maybe the second one isn't actually a horror, but it's very enjoyable to watch.

Oh, and as a fan of Carpenter you probably have seen this but go for 'In the Mouth of Madness' great movie, main charatec is somehow based on Stephen King, which leads us to movie adaptations of his books - most of them are at least good.
And, you see, I don't really get scared on horror movies (you know, I just can't; I apreciate and love atmosphere and all but most of horrors just doesnt work for me) but I can really recomnd mentionem movies.
And, if you like found footage I can post few more good titles.

Nice suggestion, I will definitely look for "Let the Right One In". I have not seen the remake, as I am not a fan of remakes when the original is already good.
I have seen "As Above, So Below" a couple months ago; not bad for a "found footage" style of film (which I am usually not very fond of).

As per title, I am looking for a horror film to watch, not necessarily recent, but scary.
Gore is ok, but I'm not a fan of jump scares - those get boring quickly. I am more into unsettling plots and dark or unusual settings.
To give you an idea of what I like, I am a big fan of John Carpenter (The Thing, Price of Darkness, The Fog, Christine...).
So let's see, what are your favourite horror flicks?
And now, for the unrelated GA: 1DyS0 [Level 1+] (ended)
New GA: /PFSnM/
UPDATE: I've watched "Don't Blink" because it was easy to find and cheap (a few pence, second hand of course). 9 for the idea, 5 for the final result. Too many plot holes, I guess that's where people disappeared. :D
UPDATE 2: I have now watched "Jacob's Ladder", wow that was a trip. Very weird film, I think "Hellraiser: Inferno" might have been inspired by it a little, but Jacob's Ladder was deeper, more mysterious and all round much better.
UPDATE 3: Watched "Emergo" (Apartment 143) and May, because I could get them for a few pence :D The first started ok but went downhill quickly, the second is very weird but a bit boring (very well acted, though).
