I've had to block a few people for begging in the past. People who I've been playing games with and just come out of the blue and say, "Will you buy me X, please?" I ask them if it's ever worked for them and they say, "lol yeah."

It just makes me facepalm.

If people like this put half of the effort they are using to beg into a menial minimum wage job, they would have more than enough money to buy whatever games they want.

I don't agree with begging, however it takes almost no effort to beg. So half of that effort wouldn't even GET you a job.

Yes. I have over 40 people asking me for keys on Steam since I was doing the RUSE giveaways. I did it at first, but now I'm getting a bit tired of it. I don't have time nor the inclination to do it. Especially when I'm clearly playing an FPS like BF2 and they keep going in poor english, 'hello r u there i want key plssssssss hello? 4 my brotherk ey??? pls'.

Grumble grumble.

Funny. I don't think he's 13. I think he's copying and pasting the story... I hate such personalities. And if he is - he is too young to play the game according the the "M" sign.
Btw, as a matter of fact - not everybody can make money. Some countries don't have lawns or car washing or shop helping or whatever.

Fortunately nobody asks me yet, probably because I haven't gifted anything yet...

I was going to make fun of his grasp of the English language.

Then I remembered he was 13.

Then I remembered that I was writing much more coherently than that at 13.

Then I remembered it was the internet, so proper use of the language didn't matter.

Then I remembered that is bullshit. Clarity is king.

Then I remembered it was morally wrong anyway to make fun of somebody.

Then I remembered it was the internet, so no one knows who I am if I pick on a 13 year old.

Then I remembered you, Mr. Mysterious House, diagnosed that he wasn't really 13.

Then I forgot what I was going to say to him.

Ummm... "Get off my lawn you damn dirty alleged kid? I like House."

Some of us at 13 had something called real life; it's like second life but in 3D, oh also it had force feedback. God I miss real life. Anyway this internet thing you mention, I thought children had to be supervised on it and taught how to dial-into this BBS?

there is actually nothing about a ban either.
imo a permanent ban for such a mistake is a bad idea. well, maybe stop getting any points for a week or something like that.
and it's not even in the rules.
also such a rule won't help from someone, not registered here.
you should put it as a rule in big letters while registration and close any gifter's contacts (including steam profile) for the unauthenticated users, if you want that to work that way.

I wanted to write 'hopefully', though I'm thinking: is it fair that a user would get banned for begging? On the other hand, if he won't - he will most likely keep begging... Theoretically - it'd be a nice thing to do.

It's irritating because some of the massive sales (hi Zacrim, accept my add on Steam if you see this :p) means that I'd rather buy a quick, cheap key off the person and so I try to add them on Steam but... Massive amounts of beggars speaking broken English have ruined any chances of adding them and purchasing the key. >.>

  • May I sell or trade gift subscriptions?
Steam Gift Purchases can not be sold or traded. Attempting to sell or trade a gift subscription is a violation of the Steam Subscriber Agreement and may result in your account being permanently disabled.

You said you like to message people to buy games from them. That's participating in selling/trading games and that violates the SSA.

Hmm. From what I read that you posted here before, I got that you are not talking about CD keys, but about Steam Gifts. You said that people probably picked up games during the Steam Summer Sale, and you want to buy the extra copies. Those are not CD Keys from retail games or another online vendor, they are gifts that people bought through Steam, making them unable to sell or trade without violating the SSA.

It works differently with CD Keys and Retail games. If there is a sale on Amazon for some game, I can buy 10 of them, then sell them at higher prices if I want. That's business. In Steam, these actions are not allowed, and are in violation of Steam's SSA.

Actually trading gifts is against the steam TOS and against the SSA and will get your account permanently disabled by Valve. So it's not legal. You're breaking a binding contract that you agreed to upon making a steam account. Don't try and bullshit me.

Yeah, I ended up clearing out my friends list because of this and just keeping in the Steamgifts Group for communication. I never had anyone be too overt, but there were enough "oooh, I hope I win this game," where I'd reply "yeah good luck buddy!" and then they'd say something like: "or... you could just give it to me ;)" and for some reason that just really annoys me.

And for the record, I hope no one that I removed from my friends list were offended, you know whether you asked me for games or not :) I just figured communication can still be established through the Steamgifts group.
