Or should I just buy Half-Life 2?

I've never played any of these series, just a little bit of Half-Life years ago.

Are all the other episodes worth getting too?

Yes, episodes are worth it... but that's just my opinion, you could just buy HL2 and then get EP1 and 2 later if you like HL2... however, EP2 in my opinion is the best one, has better graphics and just nicer feeling.

The HL1 mods like Blue Shift and Oppossing Force are also nice, but HL2 and episodes are nicer :}

Oh and about better graphics, I strongly suggest you finish the game as-is first, but if you get HL2 and EP1&2 you can re-play them with better graphics using the cinematic mod.

Considering the same thing - think if I should buy Half Life I might as well do it properly and go through the entire series but still not sure if I wanna fork out 9 euros for it...

With HL complete you gonna get more play-time and difficulty. HL2 is just (in my opinion) an easy game, HL Complete are like 3 or 4, (in my opinion) more harder, and it's the base of the saga. I personaly think HL1 and his mods are better that HL2, i think they ruined the saga with the 2 and the others but that's another thing.

If you don't mind the old graphics, and have a lot of time, sure why not
There is also The Orange Box, not as much games, but got TF2 premium and Portal (if you don't have them already)

Full Half-Life series for 10 is totally worth it.
But if you are interested in other Valve games like CS, L4D or Portal, I will suggest that you go to the trade forum and look for a Valve Complete Pack for $25.

Black Mesa is incomplete currently. Also, however brilliant the remake is, it just can't replace the original masterpiece in my opinion.

Half-Life is simply one of the best series ever released to the gaming world. It may be hard to see it as the groundbreaking game it is over 15 years after its release, but Half-Life Complete is well worth any amount Steam sticks on it.

Along with Black Mesa (free) which I mentioned previously, you can also get the updated Half-Life: Source

In this case, if I hadn't already played HL1. I would start with Black Mesa, which is only like the first half of the game, and free with modern gfx. Then finish HL1 with the source remake and use console command to level skip to where you left off from in Black Mesa version.
