Were you terrified of the windows xp shutting down sound when you were a child?

This still scares me

I think someone needed to introduce 'child you' and perhaps even 'present you' to the wonders of configurations.
You can turn off pretty much ALL sounds or alter them.

Though props for the guy who pointed out the modem sounds. Those are just awesome in their own right for all that they represent.

MY first computer, when I was a toddler, was an old mac. Every time there was a popup, I shut down, etc. the robot voice would talk and it scared me :'(

Doesn't scare me one bit, the only time it did was when my headset was blasted to full volume (guess I did that as a mistake), and I heard the loudest fucking sound ever, made my ear drums burst, always took my headset off first after that.

Nah. What scared me was the telephone ERRNGH ERRNGH ERRNGH ERRNGH ERRNGH or the DI DI DI DI DI DI sound when the line got disconnected.

That, and the Dorling Kindersley logo. Like what the fuck, man.

I should probably mention that when I was a child, Microsoft didn't exist. Out of all of the sound schemes, though, Windows 96 was my favorite. I preferred to use the default 98 sound for startup with the Robots startup for shutdown.

When loading up my windows start up was set to a line from the great movie Spaced Invaders. "Prepare to die earth scum!"

My error message alert was from Red Dward, Kryten saying "Ohhh spin my nipple nuts and send me to Alaska!"

I don't know about scare maybe surprise? haha I know it used to maybe catch me off guard maybe once or twice but only a few times :s haha lol

Have you seen Nightbreed? It is nice, I recommend you that movie. Well, this was its game load screen for C64. Enjoy.

What scared me more were certain errors my XP pc used to have, like bluescreens.
There were weird error sounds or a kind of screeching noise. But they didn't come out of the soundbox, but from the case itself, and they sounded more like error sounds an extremely old computer would have. With that screeching sound, it almost sounded like the disc was being shredded.

For me it was the startup screen. The speakers got left on full blast often enough I flinched every time it started.
