Anyone up-to-date with the news on this game knows that the dev's took ownership back from the original Publisher due to questionable practices. This is a highly-rated game, and the best way to get it is from Frogwares. That said, you can now pick up the game from Frogwares' new(er) distributor, Gamesplanet, for only 15% of the games regular price. Here is the URL for those in the U.S.

(PLEASE NOTE: You can also buy this game on Steam, but it will be an older, buggier version with missing content.)

Not interested in the game, but good for Frogwares to find some ground after being scammed

will the steam version not be updated at all anymore?

Doubt it. Apparently the Steam version was pirated by Nacon. The only official versions are on Origin and Gamesplanet.

Apparently the Steam version was pirated by Nacon.

It was pulled from sale after that but has since returned to the store which suggests that particular issue has been resolved.

No, the developers had the "real" version. Nacon is selling an outdated version that they "took" (acording to Frogwares, of course)

Nothing I said contradicts either of those points.

It returned to sale on Steam because a court decision which ruled Frogwares unlawfully tried end their contract with Nacon.

It's been removed from sale at least twice. First they had just a base game version uploaded that was removed and returned for the reasons you stated, then they came back with the supposedly pirated deluxe version which was in turn also removed and then later returned with purchasable DLC.

I don't know if it helps, but the game is on Origin as well (the Frogwares version). In some rare occasions, it's discounted. Unfortunately, not now.

Questionable practices.... No, i am sorry, but i don't believe one word from Frogwares mouth. And if you want to know why... Just look at how many publishers they've sued...MC2/Microids (the old Microids, not the today's shell), Wanadoo and Dreamcatcher (those are already gone now). Focus Home Interactive and Big Ben Interactive/Nacon.

Every publisher for the Frogwares games were sued at some point. I expect to see at some point another title: Gamesplanet scammed us. So, yeah. I can understand once, i can understand twice, but 5 times....Just nope.

Originally Focus Home Interactive wanted Frogwares to work on a Lovecraft game and then changed their mind and they brought in Cyanide to do it instead. Frogwares was pretty pissed off at both Focus Home and Cyanide so they left to make their own Lovecraft game. The issues between Frogwares and Nacron started because Nacron purchased Cyanide.

heh, exactly my thoughts, whenever there's trouble it's always Frogwares involved.
But of course we are to believe it's everyone else's fault all the time. They really choose their partners poorly lul

is there are a way to update the steam version or patch it ?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, the developers didn't provide the newest bug fixes or the newest DLC to the Steam version because Nacon is publishing it on Steam. Once the publishing rights end with Nacon they'll more than likely either delist the current version and relaunch it with everything or take over the current store page and update the game.

There's really no solution to that on Steam unfortunately...at least for the time being while Nacon is publishing it.

The Sinking City Steam version is still Nacon version?

Is there any SOLID info who is right and who is wrong because both sides I remember were blaming each other?

Who is right, and who is wrong?

Well, my understanding is that both parties should have handled things better. Frogwares because they did not ensure their contract and legal representation was the way it should have been, and then trying to browbeat everyone to see things their way. Reality does not conform to how we want it to be simply because we want it to be that way. As for Nacon, they did the typical "publish what we have and take the money" without regard for what was just and fair. Convincing a judge that you are legally "right" does not mean you are morally right.

I am sure that if both parties had each others interests at heart, they could have worked things out to the benefit of both, but that is not the world in which we currently live. Given the choice of the two, I'd rather have the updated and bugfixed version from the dev's.

I think I can bet that the Steam version will be in Humble Bundle or Fanatical before they will lose the right to the game.

I just wonder what will happen with the game after they have no more legal rights to it.

Usually Steam patches all their games, whereas another platform like GOG would make it optional (to please the romantics who prefer vanilla unpatched games).

How come Steam has an outdated version it doesn't make sense

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

the Developers "Frogwares" had troubles with the Publisher "Nacon" and held on to the updated version (including DLC)
while the lawsuit was active Nacon released the older version on steam.
then there was something about piracy and copyrights
dont know the updates but im sure its on the internet

As far as I know, the Gamesplanet and Origin distributions are supported by Frogwares. The Steam version is supported by Nacon (while they still retain the rights to it).

I wonder why they don't put the game on GOG or Epic. Would (maybe) satisfy those that don't just want a download link.

I can't understand for the life of me why they would rather release their version on Origin than on GOG. Especially considering Frogware's version is already DRM-Free, and I'm sure CD Projekt would be more than happy to put it on their storefront.
