I know it's a little late now, but for future reference, programs won't fix dead pixels, only stuck pixels.
Also, that shouldn't have killed your monitor.

My lcd screen torn off its lightning when there are only black screen to display, that's a power saving feature. Unless I misunderstood what you wrote ?
edit : clearly I misunderstood, sorry.

It's just black. Whatever you do, press all the buttons or whatever.
The power button doesn't flash if I turn it on, it's constantly blue.

There was a green stuck/dead pixel in the middle of the screen.

Used this program to get rid of it: udpix.free.fr

Rather than using a program like that ( which hardly ever work ), just rub the affected area with your fingernail ( depending on whether it's a glare-free screen or not ) and it should go back to normal.

It was a gift from my mother's friend. It worked for a while flawlessly.

It's written on the display, that was made in 2007.

i own the 940nw and it broke after 23 mounth i was lucky i was still covered by the warranty, it had the same problem as you sicribed most likely the power unit of the monitor needs to be replaced wich sadly cost more then the value of the monitor :(

The lighting went through, had to put the flashlight against the screen.

I got my first LCD screen as a early christmas gift, and within 24 hours I already broke it.
Black screen, turn on = even more black screen (turns blacker when turned on), power light works, doesn't show no signal signal.
Afaik it's broken, or isn't it?
Edit: quick fix on what might have gone wrong: I left it on all night to let a program deal with a dead pixel in the middle of the screen. When I woke up it was as it is now, broken.
Edit Edit: Just a quick thing, the screen was a Samsung SyncMaster 940B.
Edit, Edit, Edit. I used it as a primary screen on my 2 screen set-up. I still have to use my 11 y/o fat-screen now.
