Really? I didn't even know there was a movie based on the game before friends & relatives told me about it. I quite liked the game even if it was super linear and repetitive but somehow, don't care much about the flick. Heck, I haven't even seen the trailer. What was so bad about it? The plot? The acting? Everything? ;)

the story and characters background is super rushed, and they left it open-ended for a trilogy since they only care about money when they make movies today.
at least the soundtrack is awesome, and it has some nice scenes with parkour and fights.

Of course. As you've said, making the most money is all that matters. Create a franchise and milk it, milk it! Although I'm guilty of loving movie franchises, I must admit. Thinking about the Ice Age series here... I like every single flick. Except for the last one, Collision Course, it did make me think they really should put IA to rest now.
Sorry for the ramblings... I just saw AC's trailer. Based on that, it didn't strike me as a must-see movie, I had the feeling I would find it boring.
